  • Strange Love

    Strange Love by Ann Aguirre

RECOMMENDED: Strange Love by Ann Aguirre is $2.99! Elyse loved this one and gave it an A:

Strange Love by Ann Aguirre is a shining example of just how good a romance novel can be, even if the hero has mandibles, and I recommend everyone go read it now.

He’s awkward. He’s adorable. He’s alien as hell.

Zylar of Kith Balak is a four-time loser in the annual Choosing. If he fails to find a nest guardian this time, he’ll lose his chance to have a mate for all time. Desperation drives him to try a matching service but due to a freak solar flare and a severely malfunctioning ship AI, things go way off course. This ‘human being’ is not the Tiralan match he was looking for.

She’s frazzled. She’s fierce. She’s from St. Louis.

Beryl Bowman’s mother always said she’d never get married. She should have added a rider about the husband being human. Who would have ever thought that working at the Sunshine Angel daycare center would offer such interstellar prestige? She doesn’t know what the hell’s going on, but a new life awaits on Barath Colony, where she can have any alien bachelor she wants.

They agree to join the Choosing together, but love is about to get seriously strange.

  • Mistletoe Christmas

    Mistletoe Christmas by Eloisa James

Mistletoe Christmas is $1.99! This is a Christmas anthology, featuring four stories by Eloisa James, Christi Caldwell, Janna MacGregor, and Erica Ridley. Definitely some great historical romance names! It also looks like all four stories take place at a holiday house party.

From four beloved writers—Eloisa James, Christi Caldwell, Janna MacGregor, and Erica Ridley—comes a hilarious tale of a Christmas house party that serves up love and scandal in equal measure!

The Duke of Greystoke’s Christmas Revelry is famous throughout the British Isles for its plays, dancing, magical grotto… not to mention scandals leading to the marriage licenses he hands out like confetti.

But not everyone welcomes a visit from Cupid.

Lady Cressida, the duke’s daughter, is too busy managing the entertainments—and besides, her own father has called her dowdy. Her cousin, Lady Isabelle Wilkshire, is directing Cinderella and has no interest in marriage. Lady Caroline Whitmore is already (unhappily) married; the fact that she and her estranged husband have to pretend to be together just makes her dread the party all the more.  But not as much as Miss Louisa Harcourt, whose mother bluntly tells her that this is her last chance to escape the horrors of being an old maid.

A house party so large, that mothers lose track of their charges, leads to a delightful, seductive quartet of stories that you will savor for the Season!

    stories included:
A Mistletoe Kiss by Eloisa James
Wishing Under the Mistletoe by Christi Caldwell
Compromise Under the Mistletoe by Janna MacGregor
Mischief & Mistletoe by Erica Ridley

  • The Thistle and the Rose

The Thistle and the Rose by May McGoldrick

The Thistle and the Rose by May McGoldrick is 99c at select vendors! This originally came out in 1995. Amazon and Goodreads have conflicting info. One says this is book two the MacPherson Clan series, while the other lists this is a prequel novel.

    Desperate Deception

Celia Muir must escape from a burning castle into the Scottish Highlands before English soldiers capture her. With her are loyal friends and servants, all united to protect the infant Kit from unknown enemies. For her clandestine mission to succeed she has to make Colin Campbell, the warrior lord whose help she seeks, believe she is the seductive Lady Caithness.

    Irresistible Desire

Colin Campbell’s head tells him this Caithness woman is trouble, yet his heart is telling him she is magnificent. Whatever Celia is hiding he needs to know, but he also wants to hold her and kiss her. And as war with England scorches the heathered hills, Colin and Celia find reasons to bare their secrets, surrender to their desires, and head toward a destiny where Scotland’s future–and their own–build on the strength of their passion and love…

  • The Library of the Unwritten

The Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith

The Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith is $2.99! Carrie read this one and gave it a C+, noting it was the wrong book for her at the time, as it’s dark and rather angsty. Have you read it?

In the first book in a brilliant new fantasy series, books that aren’t finished by their authors reside in the Library of the Unwritten in Hell, and it is up to the Librarian to track down any restless characters who emerge from those unfinished stories.

Many years ago, Claire was named Head Librarian of the Unwritten Wing– a neutral space in Hell where all the stories unfinished by their authors reside. Her job consists mainly of repairing and organizing books, but also of keeping an eye on restless stories that risk materializing as characters and escaping the library. When a Hero escapes from his book and goes in search of his author, Claire must track and capture him with the help of former muse and current assistant Brevity and nervous demon courier Leto.

But what should have been a simple retrieval goes horrifyingly wrong when the terrifyingly angelic Ramiel attacks them, convinced that they hold the Devil’s Bible. The text of the Devil’s Bible is a powerful weapon in the power struggle between Heaven and Hell, so it falls to the librarians to find a book with the power to reshape the boundaries between Heaven, Hell….and Earth.

  1. Darlynne says:

I enjoyed THE LIBRARY OF THE UNWRITTEN more than Carrie did. Claire, MC and head librarian in Hell, is prickly and uncomfortable. The premise is really interesting; the idea that a Hero in an unfinished book escapes the library and creates havoc for everyone is delightful (thankfully, I don’t have to retrieve him). The surprise for me was the unexpected personal changes to the main characters as a result of their misadventures. This is still a dark tale with ultimately likable people.

  3. MariaK says:

I loved STRANGE LOVE! The alien (NOT human) hero has self-esteem issues, while the heroine is confident and optimistic. Her dog, Snaps, is a character all his own, especially since he’s given a speech chip. There’s humor, action, and such sweetness to the romance. I highly rec this to lovers of sci-fi romance and any romantic reader willing to give it a chance.

  4. Ell says:

I second the Strange Love rec! It was absolutely delightful, I’d describe it as charmingly weird. It’s also book one of a three book series – I haven’t read the others but they seem to take place in the same universe with different characters, perhaps with some cameos. And, the entire trilogy is $2.99 each on Amazon at the moment, so I’m off to happily buy the others!

  5. Heather says:

The two follow-ups in the Galatic Love series were even more charming than Strange Love. Book 2, Love Code, was my favorite. It features a key character from the first book and handles issues of gender, consent, and embodiment very thoughtfully.

  6. flchen1 says:

    $2.49:

The greatest alien romance is still, and will forever be, The Last Hour of Gann.

    I enjoyed MISTLETOE CHRISTMAS.

  10. Allison R-B says:

FYI, if you’re a Kobo Plus subscriber, all 3 of Ann Aguirre’s Galactic Love books are included. Strange Love is a favorite of mine, too.

  11. Rosesred says:

The Library of the Unwritten IS a dark book, filled with prickly difficult people who need to figure things out, and are not always acting likable or friendly as a result. As a person who is sometimes difficult and prickly, I very much appreciated the perspective. It’s also just a really good adventure story with real stakes for the characters. So like blue cheese, not for everyone, but delicious it it’s your thing
