A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole is $1.99! This is the first book in her Reluctant Royals series and this seems to be a series that just keeps getting better with its books. Many readers loved how Alyssa writes consent, agency, and all sorts of other awesome and empowering things. However, some warn that this book takes several chapters to get into the swing of things.
The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi is $1.99! I believe this is Chokshi’s full-length adult debut. It’s a Gothic fantasy and boy, do I love that cover.
I enjoyed this story a lot. It contains many of the elements that feel like a traditional Western to me – scenes of blizzards and horse-breaking, confrontations in the local saloon, slick shysters from out East come to take advantage of the locals – but the central characters buck the stereotypes in numerous ways.
Iron and Magic by Ilona Andrews is $3.49! This is the first book in a new series by Andrews and features a hero who was a bit of a villain in the Kate Daniels series. Did you read and enjoy this one? Can it be read without the KD series?
RECOMMENDED: Behind the Scenes by Karelia Stetz-Waters is $3.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! I loved this book so much and you can hear me talk about it on a podcast episode we did with the author!
Girly Drinks by Malloy O’Meara is $2.99! I mentioned this on a previous Book Beat because it sounds like right up the Bitchery’s alley. If you like niche non-fiction or loved Amy Stewart’s The Drunken Botanist, maybe try this one.
Heartbreaker by Sarah MacLean is $1.99! This is book two in the Hell’s Belles series. It also appears to be a road trip romance, which I happen to enjoy!
Spotless by Camilla Monk is $2.99 at Amazon! This one has been mentioned in the comments of at least two Rec Leagues: More Action Adventure Romance and He’s Always Loved Her. It’s also had a cover redesign. I like the art style, but also feel like it makes the characters look pretty young.
Malice by Heather Walter is $1.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This was mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet and is a spin on Sleeping Beauty. This is definitely on the darker side and has a romance between Princess Aurora and the evil sorceress.
The Rogue of Fifth Avenue by Joanna Shupe is $1.99! This is the first book in Shupe’s Uptown Girls series and I gave this one a B. I loved the heroine, but felt the sexism and patriarchy in this one hit too close to home when I read it. I am, however, very excited about the next book.
RECOMMENDED: The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen is $2.99! I’ve talked about my love for Sarah Addison Allen before. Her books are literary fiction with magical realism and they’re such perfect comfort reads. I like Garden Spells (her debut) better, but this was still a good read.
One to Watch by Kate Stayman-London is $1.99! This has been mentioned a couple times on the site in things like Hide Your Wallet and podcast episodes. I feel like I’ve heard mixed things about this one, but do take note that the heroine’s weight seems to play a big factor in the narrative.
