  • Puddin’

    Puddin’ by Julie Murphy

Puddin’ by Julie Murphy is $1.99! Not sure if this is a Kindle Daily Deal. I didn’t see it on the list today, but I may have missed it. This is a companion novel to Dumplin’ though it’s not necessary to read that one to enjoy this one. Just be warned that the ending to Dumplin’ might get spoiled. I loved Dumplin’ and am excited to read this one. Murphy has a great way of writing really likable characters.

It is a companion novel to Dumplin’, which follows supporting characters from the first book in the months after Willowdean’s star turn in the Clover City pageant.

Millie Michalchuk has gone to fat camp every year since she was a girl. Not this year. This year she has new plans to chase her secret dream—and to kiss her crush. Callie Reyes is the pretty girl who is next in line for dance team captain and has the popular boyfriend. But when it comes to other girls, she’s more frenemy than friend. When circumstances bring the girls together over the course of a semester, they will surprise everyone (especially themselves) by realizing they might have more in common than they ever imagined.

  • More or Less a Marchioness

More or Less a Marchioness by Anna Bradley

More or Less a Marchioness by Anna Bradley is 99c at most places! This is the first book in the Somerset Sisters series and came out  just last month. Readers warn that it does take a while for the hero and heroine to finally interact, but once they do, it’s a pretty lovely romance. This book is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. Be sure to check them out; there are four pages of them!

The Somerset sisters, three beautiful, headstrong debutantes in Regency London, are discovering that a bit of scandal is a delightful thing…

For the sake of propriety, and her younger sisters’ reputations, Iris Somerset has kept her rebellious streak locked away. But though she receives a proposal from Phineas Knight, Lord of Huntington, Iris can’t marry a man she knows isn’t truly enamored with her. In fact, Iris no longer wants to be chosen—she wants to choose. Under the clandestine tutelage of “wicked widow” Lady Annabel Tallant, she’ll learn how to steer her own marriage prospects—and discover her secret appetites.

What kind of debutante refuses a marquess? Finn is surprised, a little chastened—and thoroughly intrigued. This new, independent version of Iris is far more alluring than the polished socialite she used to be. Finn believed he needed a safe, quiet wife to curb his wilder impulses. But the more Iris surprises him, the more impossible it becomes to resist their deepest desires.

  • About That Kiss

About That Kiss by Jill Shalvis

About That Kiss by Jill Shalvis is $1.99! This is the fifth book in the Heartbreaker Bay series and has a scavenger hunt element, which I know is some strong catnip. Also, is it just me, or do the hero’s khakis blend in too well? Any time I look at the cover, I have a split second reaction that he’s pantless.

When love drives you crazy . . .

When sexy Joe Malone never calls after their explosive kiss, Kylie shoves him out of her mind. Until she needs a favor, and it’s a doozy. Something precious to her has been stolen and there’s only one person with unique finder-and-fixer skills that can help—Joe. It means swallowing her pride and somehow trying to avoid the temptation to throttle him—or seduce him.

the best thing to do . . .

No, Joe didn’t call after the kiss. He’s the fun time guy, not the forever guy. And Kylie, after all she’s been through, deserves a good man who will stay. But everything about Kylie makes it damned hard to focus, and though his brain knows what he has to do, his heart isn’t getting the memo.

    … is enjoy the ride.

As Kylie and Joe go on the scavenger hunt of their lives, they discover surprising things about each other. Now, the best way for them to get over “that kiss” might just be to replace it with a hundred more.

  • Wicked Designs

    Wicked Designs by Lauren Smith

Wicked Designs by Lauren Smith is 99c! This book is the first in The League of Rogues series. If you already own this one, a couple more books in the series are also priced at 99c! Some readers mentioned being wary because of the kidnapping element of the plot, but many were won over by Smith’s writing. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.

The League of Rogues takes what they want—but have they taken on too much?

For too long Miss Emily Parr has been subject to the whims of her indebted uncle and the lecherous advances of his repulsive business partner. Her plan to be done with dominating men forever is simple—find herself a kind husband who will leave her to her books.

It seems an easy enough plan, until she is unexpectedly abducted by an incorrigible duke who hides a wounded spirit behind flashing green eyes.

Godric St. Laurent, Duke of Essex, spends countless nights at the club with his four best friends, and relishes the rakish reputation society has branded him with. He has no plans to marry anytime soon—if ever. But when he kidnaps an embezzler’s niece, the difficult debutante’s blend of sweetness and sharp tongue make him desperate for the one thing he swears he never wanted: love.

Yet as they surrender to passion, danger lurks in Godric’s shadowed past, waiting for him to drop his guard—and rob him of the woman he can’t live without.

Warning: This novel includes a lady who refuses to stay kidnapped, a devilish duke with a dark past, and an assortment of charming rogues who have no idea what they’ve gotten themselves into.

  1. DiscoDollyDeb says:

The guy on the WICKED DESIGNS cover seems to be having trouble figuring out how hooks and clasps work. Dude, you’re overthinking it!

  2. Sam victors says:

    For Wicked Designs,

So Abduction is Love trope? Where the kidnapped victim falls in love with the kidnapper

  3. Caitlin says:

The Wicked Designs cover guy is way creepy (and probably overthinking the dress), and that’s even before I read the synopsis.

  4. Wicked Designs dude is looking out into the abyss like he’s questioning every decision he’s made in his life to bring him to this point…

  5. Darlynne says:

I think the woman on the Wicked Designs cover has just stuck him with a shiv and he’s about to hit the floor.

  6. Ren Benton says:

He learned the hard way that no means no.

    AND FURTHERMORE:

    Don’t look at the camera.
    Don’t look at the camera.
    Don’t look at the camera.

Unwanted unwavering eye contact gives me the heebie-jeebies. Reason #27,878 I never complain about headless covers: “At least he’s not staring at me like he’s going to harvest my organs in the back of his van.”

  7. Quidnunc says:

For the Shalvis cover, that looks like she is sitting in a dangerous place. It didn’t make me think romance, it makes me think of those people who fall off balconies while having sex.

  8. Shemmelle says:

@sam victors. Yes very much abduction is love and for your own good. and not really addressed as an issue by the author. Full of “you made me do this” and bets over the heroine and extreme possessiveness. None seems to be presented as smth the hero needs to learn from. I personally was not won over by the writing as I could not get past what an abusive douche canoe the hero and his friends were and how they did not seem to learn anything!

Also my ebook version had images which did not improve anything!

  9. Tam says:

I think the abduction trope can work if it’s done right – see Jo Beverley’s ‘Dangerous Joy’, where the hero can’t work out why his ward keeps trying to elope with an abusive creep, and eventually kidnaps her to stop it. It’s definitely a tricky one to manage, though.

  10. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Kidnapping/abduction/captivity are tropes in many contemporary “dark romances” too. I generally refer to them as “Stockholm Syndrome” books: I do read them, but think of them as suspense/thrillers rather than romances. When the heroine’s agency to make a choice is removed, I can’t see the eventual HEA as being valid. That being said, there are writers who handle the tropes with great subtlety…but I still can’t call the result a romance.
