Embroidering Her Truth: Mary, Queen of Scots and the Language of Power by Clare Hunter is .99c! This book jumped out at me because it’s an examination of how Mary, Queen of Scots used textiles, embroidery, and color to communicate and convey power. This book has a 4.13 star average on StoryGraph, and a 4.26 star average on Goodreads. It also won an award as Scottish History Book of the Year in 2022! Have you read this book?
Dukes Do It Better by Bethany Bennett is $1.99! This is the third book in the Misfits of Mayfair series; we’ve feature the previous two books on sale before. I don’t love how this cover design is a departure from the other books.
Happy Tuesday! That means it’s new release day for most books that will soon be arriving onto your ereaders, mailboxes, or on the shelves of your local independent bookstore (if you haven’t been blessed by the book gods and received them early). There’s a great mix of retellings, romance, and fantasy! What’s coming out this week that you’re excited for? Let us know!
Holidays with the Wongs by Jackie Lau is $2.99! Apologies in advance if these deals are leftover from yesterday and expire. This set collects all four holiday novellas in the Holidays with the Wongs series, which have been favorably mention on the site
The Haunting of Brynn Wilder by Wendy Webb is currently $1.99! Elyse featured this book in November’s Hide Your Wallet saying it “sounded delightfully spooky.” It has a 3.86 -star average on GoodReads, and I noticed that when I was using Google to look up this book, one of the autocomplete suggestions was “Haunting of Brynn Wilder ending explained,” which cracked me up. Have you read this? Did you need an explainer for the ending?
Wrapped Up In You by Jill Shalvis is $1.99! This is the eighth book in the Heartbreaker Bay contemporary romance series. It’s also a small town holiday romance. Shalvis is an autobuy for a lot of readers and I know Elyse has had good experiences with her holiday romances specifically.
The Friendship Pact by Jill Shalvis is $1.99! This is book two in the Sunrise Cove series. It seems like women’s fiction with a romantic subplot, though correct me if I’m wrong.
The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid is $1.99! This fantasy debut was a previous Hide Your Wallet pick for me and I was definitely curious about the Hungarian history. The description also made me think there might be a romance. Have any of you read it?
Breaking Badger by Shelly Laurenston is $1.99! This is book four in the Honey Badger Chronicles series. This one came out at the end of August and was mentioned on Hide Your Wallet. What do we think of the new covers?
Jade City by Fonda Lee is $2.99! This adult fantasy novel incredibly violent, according to reviews. But readers loved the world building and threads of mythology weaved into the story. To be honest, the book sounds intense and awesome, and a great follow up if you just watched Shangi Chi.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo is $4.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal. This is Bardugo’s first adult fantasy novel and I want to warn of some graphic depictions of violence and body horror. The first chapter or so should give you a good picture on whether it’s for you.
