Suzanne Brockmann: Change “Doesn’t Happen if We’re Too Fucking Nice”

RWA 2018 Denver CO rethink revitalize renew

I’ve been waiting and waiting for the video to be posted from the RWA RITA Awards last week. It’s available now for everyone (YES! THANK YOU!) so grab a drink and maybe some tissues and settle in. If you haven’t seen it, I want to share Suzanne Brockmann’s speech as she accepts the Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award. It made my hair stand up. And then, when she was finished, the rest of me, too. I … Continue reading Suzanne Brockmann: Change “Doesn’t Happen if We’re Too Fucking Nice”

Covers & Cocktails: White Wedding

This month’s Covers & Cocktails is pretty important to me because I’ve read my first category romance! It’s about time, right? It’s July and I hate this time of year, mainly because I hate the heat. I am firmly a jeans and sweaters kind of girl. I’m also moving apartments in a few weeks. No one likes moving and my apartment is in disarray, which is already driving me bonkers. What I’m trying to say … Continue reading Covers & Cocktails: White Wedding

309. Cards Against Romance Tropes: Our Live Show at RWA!

Alisha Rai and Melonie Johnson joined me for our live show at RWA 2018, where we played a very limited edition game, Cards Against Romance Tropes. We start with my learning that Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series is being adapted for Netflix by Shonda Rimes. Then we start the games! Alisha Rai is captain of Team Kale, and Melonie Johnson is captain of Team Donut. It’s a little echo-y, which is my fault. Apologies. Special thanks … Continue reading 309. Book Review

Firestorm by Donna Grant

Firestorm

Firestorm is definitely someone’s catnip. There are dragon shifters. There is epic love. The word “eons” is used unironically. The hero has “azure eyes.” The heroine has “sherry eyes.” The sides of an ancient conflict are helpfully labeled “the Dark” and “the Light.” This is some epic shit, y’all, and while it’s a bit too epic for me I have the distinct feeling that several readers I know would eat this up with a spoon, … Continue reading Firestorm by Donna Grant

Cottage by the Sea by Debbie Macomber

Cottage by the Sea

For the first three-quarters of the book, Cottage by the Sea by Debbie Macomber was the gentle, reassuring romance I needed. Near the end I struggled with the treatment of a secondary character who suffers from mental health issues enough that it soured the book a bit for me. It still enjoyed it, but that short section frustrated me enough that it disrupted the overall romance. The book opens after tragedy strikes. Annie Marlow, a physician’s … Continue reading Cottage by the Sea by Debbie Macomber

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.

Hello there! It’s Wednesday Links time! RWA18 in Denver is over. Sarah was there and for those who attended, I hope you had a wonderful time. I was following along on Twitter and a little jealous of all the fun everyone was having. … Registration for BookLover’s Con is officially open! Books on Sale: Even Odds by Elia Winters & More

Even Odds by Elia Winters is 99c! This is an erotic contemporary romance. I also mentioned it on a previous Hide Your Wallet post! Reviews of the book say that readers loved the setting of the gaming industry, but found the hero and heroine lacked chemistry. The next two books in the series are also on sale and they feature a submissive hero and a gay romance, respectively.

The Unconventional Governess by Jessica Nelson

The Unconventional Governess

The Unconventional Governess is a funny, touching Regency romance. Set in England in 1814, it involves a woman who wants to be a doctor and a man who finds himself with an estate to run, a niece to raise, and a case of epilepsy to manage. The book is short, the emotions feel true, and the characters are lovely. Our heroine, Henrietta, is an orphan. Her uncle, a doctor, raised her and he took her … Continue reading The Unconventional Governess by Jessica Nelson

HaBO: Mannequins & Underwear with Good Elastic

This HaBO is from Elidia, who wants to find this older contemporary romance: I’m looking for a book which would be at least from the early 90s, possibly older. The heroine was a department store mannequin dresser, and the book starts off with her setting one up to advertise that the store sells panties with good elastic that won’t just fall down. This is *scandalous* to store management, but the hero thinks she’s spunky. Things … Continue reading HaBO: Mannequins & Underwear with Good Elastic
