  • Even Odds

    Even Odds by Elia Winters

Even Odds by Elia Winters is 99c! This is an erotic contemporary romance. I also mentioned it on a previous Hide Your Wallet post! Reviews of the book say that readers loved the setting of the gaming industry, but found the hero and heroine lacked chemistry. The next two books in the series are also on sale and they feature a submissive hero and a gay romance, respectively.

Geeky meets kinky in this first deliciously sexy novel in the Slices of Pi series by RITA-nominated author Elia Winters, which follows the romantic rendezvous of the employees at PI Games, a gaming company based out of sultry Florida.

As a design manager at PI Games, Isabel Suarez is no stranger to the struggles of being a woman in a male-dominated industry. But when her team attends a gaming convention on the other side of the country, she figures there’s no harm in putting aside her professional demeanor for one weekend to participate in a risqué scavenger hunt. Why shouldn’t she let loose and have a little fun?

A careless romp soon turns into more, however, when Isabel ends up having a fling with Caleb Portland, an artist and animator, without knowing he has just been hired to partner with her at her company—and Caleb can’t bring himself to tell her. When they end up coworkers a few weeks later, they need to find a way to work together and keep things strictly professional. Caleb doesn’t want to take on a relationship and risk failure. Isabel doesn’t want to risk ruining the professional reputation she’s worked so hard to develop. But when faced with the undeniable sizzling chemistry between them, will either of them be able to resist temptation?

A sexy and witty tale of romance and modern workplace politics, Even Odds is the latest winning entry in Elia Winters’ unique and well-loved erotic novels.

  • The Painted Bridge

The Painted Bridge by Wendy Wallace

The Painted Bridge by Wendy Wallace is 99c! This sounds like a creepy, Gothic piece of historical fiction, and it might appeal to some of you. Some readers felt there was too much going on and the book lacked focus. Others felt it was very disturbing page-turner. Have you read this one?

‘I am more sane than I have ever been in my life. And yet, I look like a madwoman’

Behind a high stone wall on the outskirts of London lies Lake House, a private asylum for women. Tricked by her husband, Anna Palmer becomes its newest patient just weeks into her marriage.

Ravaged by the cruel treatments of the time, Anna struggles to prove her sanity, despite some surprising allies: Talitha Batt, a longtime inhabitant who seems to be as sane as she is; Lucas St Clair, a visiting physician who believes that photography may reveal the state of a patient’s mind; and Catherine Abse, the proprietor’s highly-strung daughter. Yet the longer Anna remains at Lake House, the more she realises that no one and nothing is quite as it appears. Not her fellow patients, her husband, her family — not even herself.

Will Anna discover the freedom she seeks, or plunge so far into the recesses of the mind that she might never escape?

  • The Earl Most Likely

The Earl Most Likely by Jane Goodger

The Earl Most Likely by Jane Goodger is 99c! This is the second book in The Brides of St. Ives series and features a renovation romance set in a small, seaside town. Some readers mentioned committing a Bad Decisions Book Club to finish this one. However, some noted frustration at the hero’s wishy-washy behavior.

The picturesque seaside town of St. Ives is home to all manner of treasures . . .

It’s not every day a young woman is offered ten thousand pounds for a few month’s work—especially the plain, shy daughter of a tin mine owner. The only thing special about Harriet Anderson is her extraordinary memory for even the smallest, most obscure detail. So when she’s asked by a gentleman to help restore his once magnificent ancestral home, she simply can’t refuse, no matter how scandalous the position. The money will mean freedom from her callous parents, and a life of independence. Harriet doesn’t imagine dreaming of anything more . . .

Augustus Lawton, Lord Berkley, cares about only one thing: restoring his beloved Costille House to its former, historically correct, glory. His late wife had taken great vindictive delight in transforming the old castle into a modern Victorian nightmare. Harriet’s remarkable memory will be invaluable in repairing it—and in helping him solve his wife’s murder. Yet as they work together, Augustus finds that besides her uncanny gift, Harriet possesses other priceless qualities. And as the castle’s beauty is gradually revealed, he can’t help noticing, so is hers . . .

  • Raziel

    Raziel by Kristina Douglas

Raziel by Kristina Douglas is 99c! This is a paranormal romance with angels and demons and, if I’m not mistaken, Douglas also writes as Anne Stuart. Many readers loved the hero and want to see more angels in paranormal romances. However, some felt they were more interested in the overall plot than the actual characters.

Kristina Douglas’s sexy new series introduces a realm of fallen angels and ruthless demons, where an eternal rebellion is brewing . . . and one unsuspecting woman can change the fate of the Fallen forever.

She was just an ordinary mortal . . .

“You’re dead” is so not what Allie Watson wants to hear. Unfortunately, it explains a lot. Like the dark, angelically handsome man who ferried her to this strange, hidden land. The last thing she remembers is stepping off a curb in front of a crosstown bus. Now she’s surrounded by gorgeous fallen angels with an unsettling taste for blood—and they really don’t want her around. Not exactly how she pictured heaven.

. . . until death catapulted her into a seductive world she never imagined.

Raziel is unsure why he rescued Allie from hellfire against Uriel’s orders, but she stirs in him a longing he hasn’t felt in centuries. Now the Fallen are bracing for the divine wrath brought by his disobedience, and they blame Allie for the ferocious Nephilim clawing at the kingdom’s shrouded gates. Facing impossible odds at every turn, the two must work together to survive. Raziel will do anything to defend his spirited lover against the forces of darkness—because Allie may be the Fallen’s only salvation.

  1. Katie Lynn says:

I really liked Even Odds, but the real star of that series is book 2, with the submissive hero.

  2. JayneH says:

That Raziel cover gave me all the pants feelings…

  3. Marci says:

Alice Clayton’sThe Redhead Series bundle is $1.99 on Amazon and Kobo.

  4. ms bookjunkie says:

Is anyone else who’s a non-US-based shopper of Amazon.com having really weirdly high prices on those “price set by seller” deals? Or kindle prices in general? (I haven’t really been paying attention as I’ve been stalking certain specific books for possible price drops.) Because the aforementioned The Redhead Series bundle is $29.20 for me and individual Alice Clayton books are $10.13 or $10.15, and those are not prices I’m used to seeing. And when I take a look in other kindle books, on the side I see the bunde priced $1.99 and various other deal books mentioned here show the deal prices. Same price issue with yesterday’s interesting UF and historical deals.

So what’s up? Did I miss a price hike or policy change or whathaveya since I exist under a rock? (It’s a moderately nice rock and I have access to yarn and Ravelry so I’m good. But sometimes I do like to snap up deals and get cranky when I’m excluded…)

  5. Ren Benton says:

@ms bookjunkie: Are you perchance in or near Australia and trying to shop through dot com? I know Amazon has recently (since May, maybe?) taken a hard stance against that to force use of the AU store.

  6. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@JayneH: And he could lose the wings and still not change my, um, response.

  7. Deborah says:

Keeping with the 99c theme: Confessions of a Dangerous Lord, book 7 in Elisa Braden’s Rescued from Ruin series, is currently 0.99 at Amazon. Shades of Pimpernel, in that the hero presents as a dandy while he’s a secret mastermind of…something. (Something legal, just to differentiate him from my current book crush, Anne Cleeland’s Lord Acton.)

Anyway, the series is a trope-filled delight. I wouldn’t recommend starting with book 7, since some earlier plots points are coming to fruition here. On the other hand, I still refuse to read book 3 (arguably the most significant lead-in for 7) and was still able to enjoy Henry and Maureen’s romance.

  8. ms bookjunkie says:

@Ren Benton Nope, Finland. For kindle, dot com is the supposedly the proper place for me, as AmzUK is UK only and I don’t speak the language to figure out AmzGermany. (For print books I shop BookDepo or AdLibris, whichever gives me the lower price on the day I’m ready to buy. But as I have print books coming out the wazoo, it’s mostly kindle for me. Because whispersync…)

(Side note, Audible has taken to adding yellow banners of “only on Audible” to covers at their site, and it has the unintended effect of making me not want to buy those books. First, they’re ruining the pretty cover with their stupid yellow add-on, and second, it reminds me that they’re working to become as much a monopoly as possible. Do. Not. Like.)

  9. Darlynne says:

For Amazon UK readers, Tomi Adeyemi’s CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE is .98 today.

  10. RacoonMama says:

I really loved the Kristina Douglas series, but I admit I love everything she’s ever written as Anne Stuart too. So I’m a little biased.

  11. shel says:

    @ms bookjunkie:
I’ve found to see the true USD prices on amazon while logged in, sometimes requires a VPN. And I’m just across the border. I’ve noticed the same behaviour as you in the last year or so.

I’ve stopped grabbing freebies from there, because they are mostly matched at other places in my preferred format anyway.

  12. MaryK says:

Audible’s yellow banners aren’t just ruining pretty covers. In some cases, they obscure the title or author name. It’s annoying.

  13. Gigi says:

I really want the Kristina Douglas. I mean Anne Stuart writing paranormal? Why didn’t anyone tell me this!?! But the next two books in the series are priced at $15.99 a piece. So if I want to continue with the series I’m out of luck. No way am I paying those prices for e-books.
