  • Two Rogues Make a Right

Two Rogues Make a Right by Cat Sebastian

RECOMMENDED: Two Rogues Make a Right by Cat Sebastian is $1.99! Lara wrote a Lightning Review for this one and gave it an A:

This review could easily extend to countless paragraphs of my simply listing the ways in which I love this book and what it has done for me, but I must stop so that you, dear Bitchery, can pick this book up and enjoy it yourselves.

Will Sedgwick can’t believe that after months of searching for his oldest friend, Martin Easterbrook is found hiding in an attic like a gothic nightmare. Intent on nursing Martin back to health, Will kindly kidnaps him and takes him to the countryside to recover, well away from the world.

Martin doesn’t much care where he is or even how he got there. He’s much more concerned that the man he’s loved his entire life is currently waiting on him hand and foot, feeding him soup and making him tea. Martin knows he’s a lost cause, one he doesn’t want Will to waste his life on.

As a lifetime of love transforms into a tender passion both men always desired but neither expected, can they envision a life free from the restrictions of the past, a life with each other?

  • The Wolf at the Door

The Wolf at the Door by Charlie Adhara

The Wolf at the Door by Charlie Adhara is $1.99! This is a m/m paranormal romance and was recommended by Aarya in our Underrated Authors & Romances Rec League. Though this one wasn’t Aarya’s favorite in the series, she still really liked this one. Book two is also on sale.

A former FBI agent is partnered with the enemy in this suspenseful male/male shifter romance from debut author Charlie Adhara

Hunting for big bad wolves was never part of Agent Cooper Dayton’s plan, but a werewolf attack lands him in the carefully guarded Bureau of Special Investigations. A new case comes with a new partner: ruggedly sexy werewolf Oliver Park.

Park is an agent of The Trust, a werewolf oversight organization working to ease escalating tensions with the BSI. But as far as Cooper’s concerned, it’s failing. As they investigate a series of mysterious deaths unlike anything they’ve seen, every bone in Cooper’s body is suspicious of his new partner—even when Park proves himself as competent as he is utterly captivating.

When more people vanish, pressure to solve the case skyrockets. And though he’d resolved to keep things professional, Cooper’s friction with Park soon erupts…into a physical need that can’t be contained or controlled. But with a body count that’s rising by the day, werewolves and humans are in equal danger. If Cooper and Park don’t catch the killer soon, one—or both—of them could be the next to go.

  • Something Spectacular

    Something Spectacular by Alexis Hall

Something Spectacular by Alexis Hall is $1.99! I remember the book’s predecessor, Something Wonderful, having mixed reviews. Does this one fare better? Let us know in the comments!

From the USA Today bestselling author of Boyfriend Material comes a riotous Regency romp full of art, expensive hats, and a love that is nothing short of spectacular.

Peggy Delancey’s not at all ready to move on from her former flame, Arabella Tarleton. But Belle has her own plans for a love match, and she needs Peggy’s help to make those plans a reality. Still hung up on her feelings and unable to deny Belle what she wants, Peggy reluctantly agrees to help her woo the famous and flamboyant opera singer Orfeo.

She certainly doesn’t expect to find common ground with a celebrated soprano, but when Peggy and Orfeo meet, a whole new flame is ignited that she can’t ignore. Peggy finds an immediate kinship with Orfeo, a castrato who’s just as nonconforming as she is—and just as affected by their instant connection.

They’ve never been able to find their place in the world, but as the pair walks the line between friendship, flirtation, and something more, they may just find their place with each other.

I really wanted to like Something Spectacular, but basically it felt like the lead Peggy was surrounded by a bunch of manipulative, self-centered, melodramatic twits and was constantly being used by them. Or ignored by them until they needed something from her and it felt like no one ever cared about her or her mental health (including Orfeo). I had to DNF because it was making me so upset. (I also DNFed the first one because of the purple prose and melodrama.)

I love Real’s A Lady for a Duke, so was disappointed this series was such a bust for me.

  3. LJBG says:

Wolf at the Door is wonderful. I love the whole series. Cooper and Park 4EVA!

  4. Annie says:

The whole Big Bad Wolf series by Adhara is a must read imo. I wish it came in print. I also really liked Two Rogues Make a Right (although I don’t think either of the main heroes count as rogues lol)

  5. Kim says:

Rereading the Sedgwick series this week (during late night pumping sessions while my newborn sleeps)! Great comfort reads. Snapping it up!

Third-ing the Adhara love – Big Bad Wolf is a fantastic series!

    Free on kindle:
A (Non) Comprehensive Guide to Sea Serpents (The Sorcerer’s Grimoire Book 1) by AJ Sherwood – author of fun fluffy m/m romances, Goodreads rating is 4.5 for this book and you can’t beat the price

  8. Dr_Hazy says:

The Charlie Adhara is SO good. Reread the whole series a few weeks ago and it was just as delicious the second time. Great detective plot in addition to great love story of two people getting to know themselves and learning how to be themselves together.

  9. Margarita says:

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve re-read the Big Bad Wolf series. So enjoyable every time.

    I didn’t love the Hall.

Here’s my 3 star GR review.

Meh. I really wanted to like this nonbinary historical romance more than I did. I adored the first book, somewhat to my surprise, but this one fell flat for me.

I just didn’t buy the connection between the MCs. Plus they spend a lot of time talking at each other about their feelings, but don’t actually do much communicating with each other and that style of romance annoys me.

It’s a different tone from the first book, Something Fabulous. There’s still a lot of hijinks and general silliness, but it’s not nearly as frothy. It satirizes wallpaper historical romances with lots of silly (and some downright odd) anachronisms. Some made me laugh and some just took me out of the story. And because the tone is more serious (there’s a pretty realistic portrayal of debtor’s prison), some of the silliness felt really out of place.

It also queers the whole “chicks in pants” trope that’s common in Regencys but Cat Sebastian did it first and better. I can’t speak to the nonbinary rep, but the way Hall portrayed Orfeo, a castrato soprano singer, made me vaguely uncomfortable.

  11. cleo says:

I liked the Cat Sebastian, although I tend to prefer her 20th C romances. Note also that the first two books in this series have more plot than this one.

Here’s my 4 star GR review.

Very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. It could be standalone but the redemption arc is much more satisfying if you read the whole thing in order.

It’s not for everyone – one of the criticisms I saw on GR is that nothing really happens, it’s just a giant feelings-fest. Which is fair and didn’t bother me at all.

My biggest problem with the book is the way it ended – the hea was very emotionally satisfying but didn’t include enough plausible deniability for 2 gay men living together for my taste.

    Content notes:

CW for PTSD / past trauma from abuse, chronic / terminal illness. Also note that the hea is a bit limited because of above terminal illness.

  12. Jo says:

I had a really hard time with Something Fabulous but like Something Spectacular much better. I thought it went a long way towards understanding Peggy’s relationships and I loved the Orfeo character. I also read in audio, which may have helped.
