  • The Last Wolf

The Last Wolf by Maria Vale

RECOMMENDEDThe Last Wolf by Maria Vale is FREE! I really enjoyed this book and its departure from the usual shifter mythology. Vale does a great job creating a sense of place. Be warned though, there is violence in the book and it is very descriptive. The next two books are also discounted.

For three days out of thirty, when the moon is full and her law is iron, the Great North Pack must be wild.

If she returns to her Pack, the stranger will die.
    But if she stays…

Silver Nilsdottir is at the bottom of her Pack’s social order, with little chance for a decent mate and a better life. Until the day a stranger stumbles into their territory, wounded and beaten, and Silver decides to risk everything on Tiberius Leveraux. But Tiberius isn’t all he seems, and in the fragile balance of the Pack and wild, he may tip the destiny of all wolves…

  • The Tycoon

    The Tycoon by M O'Keefe

The Tycoon by M. O’Keefe is 99c! This is an angsty contemporary and from what I remember about it, I liked it, but I also like O’Keefe’s stuff as a general rule. This one was also an answer to a HaBO!

The cruel and beautiful man who ruined my life has everything he wants—everything except me.

Five years ago, Clayton Rorick loved me. Or so I thought. Turned out he only wanted to get his hands on my daddy’s company. Heartbroken, I ran away with nothing but the clothes on my back. Like a twisted Cinderella. When my father dies, leaving my sisters in a desperate situation, it’s up to me to help them.

I’ll have to beg the man who broke my heart to save us.

But Clayton hasn’t forgotten me and what he wants in exchange for his help is…my body, my heart and my soul.

  • Arsenic and Adobo

Arsenic and Adobo by Mia Manansala

Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P. Manansala is $1.99! This is book one in the cozy foodie mystery A Tita Rosie’s Kitchen Mystery series. Sarah was rather disappointed by this one and gave it C-. Did you read it? What did you think?

The first book in a new culinary cozy series full of sharp humor and delectable dishes—one that might just be killer….

When Lila Macapagal moves back home to recover from a horrible breakup, her life seems to be following all the typical rom-com tropes. She’s tasked with saving her Tita Rosie’s failing restaurant, and she has to deal with a group of matchmaking aunties who shower her with love and judgment. But when a notoriously nasty food critic (who happens to be her ex-boyfriend) drops dead moments after a confrontation with Lila, her life quickly swerves from a Nora Ephron romp to an Agatha Christie case.

With the cops treating her like she’s the one and only suspect, and the shady landlord looking to finally kick the Macapagal family out and resell the storefront, Lila’s left with no choice but to conduct her own investigation. Armed with the nosy auntie network, her barista best bud, and her trusted Dachshund, Longanisa, Lila takes on this tasty, twisted case and soon finds her own neck on the chopping block…

  • A Kiss at Midnight

A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James

A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James is $2.99! This is the first book in the Fairy Tale series, and it has a 3.8-star average. I love the dreamy quality of this cover! Readers noted that because of the “fairy tale” elements, don’t expect a ton of historical accuracy in this one. Do you agree?

Miss Kate Daltry doesn’t believe in fairy tales . . . or happily ever after.

Forced by her stepmother to attend a ball, Kate meets a prince . . . and decides he’s anything but charming. A clash of wits and wills ensues, but they both know their irresistible attraction will lead nowhere. For Gabriel is promised to another woman—a princess whose hand in marriage will fulfill his ruthless ambitions.

Gabriel likes his fiancée, which is a welcome turn of events, but he doesn’t love her. Obviously, he should be wooing his bride-to-be, not the witty, impoverished beauty who refuses to fawn over him.

Godmothers and glass slippers notwithstanding, this is one fairy tale in which destiny conspires to destroy any chance that Kate and Gabriel might have a happily ever after.

Unless a prince throws away everything that makes him noble . . .

Unless a dowry of an unruly heart trumps a fortune . . .

Unless one kiss at the stroke of midnight changes everything.

  1. Heather says:

I can’t say whether or not The Last Wolf is a great book, but I absolutely loved it. It was intense, unfamiliar, and vividly realized. Because I read way too much and too quickly, a novel’s plot is a blur within six months after I’ve read it (is that the one where she fell down a rabbit hole, or where she played cards?). This book was an exception. It has stuck with me so clearly that, four years later, I even remember some of the lines, the jokes, and the pack’s norms. Caution: there is a scene of sexual violence when the heroine is visiting the human world. It gets resolved in a way I did not expect.

Marie Vale’s Legend of All Wolves series is really amazing. She’s done some really well thought out world building. They aren’t always an easy read. Down right heartbreaking sometimes. Looking at you Elijah. Free is a great way to start.

  4. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Another sign that I have too many unread books on my kindle: I went to the Kindle store to download THE LAST WOLF, then Amazon helpfully notified me that I had already downloaded it…over two years ago!

  5. Mzcue says:

@DDD Happens to me way too often. But when promos for books I already own pop up, it cues me to take another look and start reading. More than once I’ve discovered an overlooked author and a backlog of gems. Once I find a great book I generally start buying up the backlist. Promos work for me.
