RECOMMENDED: The Last Wolf by Maria Vale is FREE! I really enjoyed this book and its departure from the usual shifter mythology. Vale does a great job creating a sense of place. Be warned though, there is violence in the book and it is very descriptive. The next two books are also discounted.
I loved this book. It kept me in suspense and when it was over I wanted to read it again. It sent me down many Google rabbit holes, which is my favorite kind of book. I recommend this for people who aren’t averse to ambiguity, who like stories of adventure and exploration as well as intersectional examinations of women’s lives, and to people who like mystery/thrillers.
RECOMMENDED: Talk Sweetly to Me by Courtney Milan is $2.99! This is part of the Brothers Sinister series, though retailers and Goodreads seem confused on whether it’s book 4.5 or 5 in the series. Carrie gave this one a B:
It’s a solid novella that has a science heroine (y’all know how I feel about scientific protagonists of any gender), a strong social justice stance (yay, team) and plenty of lovely writing.
If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), but we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading January’s New Releases, Part One→
Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe by Heather Webber is $2.99 and part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals! This seems to be women’s fiction with some magical realism and yummy food descriptions. Seeing as I love Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen a lot, this should be right up my alley, but I’ve been hesitant to add it to my TBR.
My Wicked Prince by Molly O’Keefe is $2.99 at Amazon! This is preorder and I believe O’Keefe said this sale is good for the preorder period (the next week) and then the first week of sale. You have time to decide if you want to bite the bullet on this one.
A Conspiracy of Whispers by Ada Harper is 99c at Amazon! This sale might be on its way out, but I’ve seen this all over the place on Twitter. It’s a scifi romance with an awesome cover. I believe it’s Harper’s debut. The next book of hers is due out in October and features a lesbian romance. Heck yeah!
RECOMMENDED: Burn Down the Night by M. O’Keefe is 99c! I really loved this book as it features an unapologetic, cranky, bisexual heroine. It was even recommended as part of author Bree Bridges tweet thread on angry heroines. Some readers recommend reading the previous two books in the series, as you get more of an introduction to the heroine as a secondary character. I agree with the assessment, but I was able to finish the book just fine without reading the first two.
READER RECOMMENDED: The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata is a 99c Kindle Daily Deal at Amazon! At a previous RT, SnarkyWench and I gushed about sports contemporaries over some wine for a good twenty minutes, and she highly recommended this book. I immediately added it to my TBR pile because it features a football player and a marriage of convenience plot. The hero (who is Canadian) wants to marry to keep his US residency. Readers loved the slow burn between the hero and heroine, but found it a little too slow. Any Zapata fans in the Bitchery?
RECOMMENDED: It Happened One Wedding Sarah really enjoyed this book and gave it an A- by Julie James is $1.99! . She felt the ending was a bit abrupt, but that seemed to be her only complaint. She also really loved the heroine:
I love the heroine, Sidney, because she is strong, she is confident, and she is competent, and she knows all those things about herself. Moreover, even though she went through a humiliating breakup that crumpled her a bit, she’s determined to start over, and find someone right for her. And she never entertains the idea that she’s doing it wrong, or that she shouldn’t be openly pursuing the possibility of a long term relationship.
