I loved The Companion by E.E. Ottoman
Sarah’s glowing mentions of the Penric books started me off on a journey through Bujold’s whole catalog! I’d put them in my ‘someday’ TBR spreadsheet, a little daunted by the old cover art, but Sarah’s glee got me tearing through Penric and now I’m halfway through the Vorkosigan Saga. THEY ARE SO MUCH FUN! I loved Murderbot and Ancillary Justice, and Bujold keeps them excellent company.
Thanks to you guys I recently discovered “The Courage to Be Disliked” by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga and absolutely loved it.
Happy Hanukkah!
In a Holidaze
Murderbot. Thank you so much!
The Anatomist’s Wife
i can’t say just one thing i like the witty reviews. i like the community even if i lurk more than post. i like the fact that i have a space that says it’s ok to be a woman reading romance and actually diverse romance. i like the tv show recommendations…argh do i have to choose one thing. ok i love the links and smart witty talented people that both make comments and create content.
That would be Susanna Kearsley’s Firebird.
MURDER IN THRALL by Anne Cleeland – I would never have thought to find a retro romance hiding in the guise of a British (but penned by an American) police procedural with a dash of the paranormal. Fortunately, a HaBO sparked my interest.
What a colour!
It would have to be a toss-up between the Nalini Singh’s PsyChangeling and Shelly Laurenston’s Pride series. Very different approaches to shifters but I love them both!
If I have to choose just one, I’ll go with Murderbot. Thank you!
I really loved Rosie Danan’s The Intimacy Experiment.
There have been so many, but the Lady Sherlock books come to mind.
Joanna Bourne’sbooks!
Susanna Kearsley’s books.
I’ve found many through the blog, the most recent being The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang which I loved so much!!!
Many years ago, I read a review of The Tokaido Road here. It intrigued me and always stuck in my mind. I finally grabbed it a year or so back and just loved it. The other one that comes to mind is Simple Jess.
Radiance by Grace Draven.
Thank you for introducing me to Celia Lake’s books. Sailor’s Jewel is my favorite so far.
The Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller
In the Venn diagram intersection of “discovered here” and “most loved”, I would have to include “Tinker” by Wen Spencer.
The recent one that comes to mind for me is The Intimacy Experiment. So good!
Sherry Thomas’ Holmes series and Spoiler Alert
Just about every Trashy book I have read since 2010 has been discovered through SBTB recommendations. So, so many wonderful books. Hmmm. I’m going to go with the most recent one (thanks to 3D’s rec): THE TYRANT ALPHA’S REJECTED MATE by Cate C. Wells.
Cranberry red. Yum.
Thanks to you, I read “A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet” and fell in love with it! It is just glorious, and never would have crossed my radar if not for Smart Bitches. Btw, I visit here daily and it always brightens my day.
Sarah’s reviews of Shelly Laurenston kicked off my longstanding love of anything and everything by her!
Thank you, @Qualisign—and I, in turn, thank the member of the Bitchery who originally recommended Cate C. Wells’s THE TYRANT ALPHA’S REJECTED MATE, which caught my eye in a November Hide Your Wallet/Book Beat post. It’s one of my favorite books of 2021: excellent world-building and depiction of pack politics, a tough & unsentimental heroine, an alpha hero who actually learns from his experiences and implements changes, and deftly done interactions between the MCs’ human and wolf personalities (it’s as if there are actually four MCs: two humans and two wolves). And, because I rarely read shifter romances, I probably wouldn’t have discovered this great read had it not been highlighted at SBTB.
So many!! Most recently “in a holidaze”.
Like Qualisign, this is my go to for pretty much every book I’ve read since discovering the site. STRANGE LOVE by Ann Aguirre is probably the best example of a review convincing me to try a book I never would have thought to read, and one which turned out to be one of my favorite books of all time.
Thank you for this wonderful place!
Jennifer Ashley’s Downstairs mysteries. Love them.
It’s a tie between Courtney Milan’s Brothers Sinister books and Tessa Dare’s Girl Meets Duke series. Both of them have been my go to comfort reads over the last couple of years.
Almost all the romance I read, I learn about here, even from beloved authors since I learn about their new releases here too! So for one from this year, I’ll go with Lisa Kleypas’s Devil in Disguise.
Tessa Dare’s A WEEK TO BE WICKED has become my best comfort reread, as promised, and the SEX PUPPY recs continue to provide! Chag sameach Hanukkah from my house to yours.
Blitzen’s Fated Mate”
I even asked my bad book club to read it for the pure joy of the zaniness. I’m not sure if they got it but it was still fun!
So many over the years! But I’ll mention Lord of Scoundrels. The original cover looked so old school, I never picked up until hearing people rave about it here.
Since Smart Bitches, Trashy Books is one of the sites I’ve been following since I rediscovered my love for romance, I can pretty much thank its writers and contributors for helping me fall in love with the genre again.
I first read Act Like It by Lucy Parker because of a favourable write-up here.
The Sherry Thomas Lady Sherlock books (I wasn’t sure I wanted to read Ms. Thomas doing non-romance, and not being a fan of the original Sherlock Holmes book, I certainly wasn’t tempted by a reimagining – I’m glad to say I was wrong)
Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall
So many books. So many fun years of romance reading.
Devoured Lucy Parker’s London Celebrity series and Battle Royal after seeing recs here. Brightened up my whole year.
I really enjoy the podcast.
Gosh, I’ve gotten like 90% of my author and book suggestions from here for years and years now. But Bite Me by Shelly Laurenston probably wins for both sheer fun and its reliability as a distraction when bad stuff that I can’t control happens.
ACT LIKE IT and other books by Lucy Parker.
