  • The Trouble with Hating You

The Trouble with Hating You by Sajni Patel

The Trouble with Hating You by Sajni Patel is $2.99! This is a price-matched Kindle Daily Deal and is a pretty recent release. This contemporary romance is on my short stack TBR (books that I plan to get to in the next couple months). Anyone interested in this one?

A laugh-out-loud romantic comedy debut about first impressions, second chances, and finding the love of your life in the most unexpected way.

Liya Thakkar is a successful biochemical engineer, takeout enthusiast, and happily single woman. The moment she realizes her parents’ latest dinner party is a setup with the man they want her to marry, she’s out the back door in a flash. Imagine her surprise when the same guy shows up at her office a week later — the new lawyer hired to save her struggling company. What’s not surprising: he’s not too thrilled to see her either after that humiliating fiasco.

Jay Shah looks good on paper…and off. Especially if you like that whole gorgeous, charming lawyer-in-a-good-suit thing. He’s also arrogant and infuriating. As their witty office banter turns into late night chats, Liya starts to think he might be the one man who truly accepts her. But falling for each other means exposing their painful pasts. Will Liya keep running, or will she finally give love a real chance?

  • Lady Notorious

    Lady Notorious by Theresa Romain

Lady Notorious by Theresa Romain is $1.99! Sarah reviewed this one and gave it a B-:

If you read this book, and I would recommend it with some reservations, you’ll get to know two characters who are lovely together, who fit together intellectually and emotionally, who make each other happy, and change the way they see the world in ways that are constructed of all the finest dialogue and chest-tingly feels-infused moments

Who knew love would be her secret weapon?

Cassandra Benton has always survived by her wits and wiles, even working for Bow Street alongside her twin brother. When injury takes him out of commission, Cass must support the family by taking on an intriguing new case: George, Lord Northbrook, believes someone is plotting to kill his father, the Duke of Ardmore. Decades before, the duke was one of ten who formed a wager that would grant a fortune to the last survivor. But someone can’t wait for nature to take its course—and George hopes a seasoned investigator like Cass can find out who.

Cass relishes the chance to spy on the ton, shrewdly disguised as handsome Lord Northbrook’s notorious “cousin.” What she doesn’t expect is her irresistible attraction to her dashing employer, and days of investigation soon turn to passionate nights. But with a killer closing in and her charade as a lady of the ton in danger of collapsing at any moment, Cass has no choice but to put her life—and her heart—in the hands of the last man she ought to trust.

  • The Prince and the Dressmaker

The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang

RECOMMENDED: The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang is $2.99! I adore this graphic novel so much. A genderfluid prince seeks out a seamstress to make beautiful dresses. The artwork is gorgeous and it’s a hefty graphic novel, which I liked because I wanted to prolong the reading experience as much as possible.

Paris, at the dawn of the modern age:

Prince Sebastian is looking for a bride—or rather, his parents are looking for one for him. Sebastian is too busy hiding his secret life from everyone. At night he puts on daring dresses and takes Paris by storm as the fabulous Lady Crystallia—the hottest fashion icon in the world capital of fashion!

Sebastian’s secret weapon (and best friend) is the brilliant dressmaker Frances—one of only two people who know the truth: sometimes this boy wears dresses. But Frances dreams of greatness, and being someone’s secret weapon means being a secret. Forever. How long can Frances defer her dreams to protect a friend? Jen Wang weaves an exuberantly romantic tale of identity, young love, art, and family. A fairy tale for any age, The Prince and the Dressmaker will steal your heart.

  • Under the Kilt Bundle

Under the Kilt Bundle by Melissa Blue

Under the Kilt Bundle by Melissa Blue is $2.99! This bundle collects books 1-5 in Blue’s Under the Kilt series. I believe all the heroes are Scots and a variety of tropes are represented. I think the romances also fall on the steamy/erotic side, but correct me if I’m wrong.

From a dusty room in a museum to the moors of Scotland, get to know the Bairds from the UNDER THE KILT series. They are Scottish, alpha and all heart. The first five stories are included in this bundle.

    UNDER HIS KILT
    No emotions, no entanglements…just sex.
Jocelyn Pearson and Ian Baird agree their affair will end in thirty days. The closer the end date looms, they start to question if it’s possible to walk away. They’ll have to come to terms of what they’ve become or stick to their original agreement.

    HER INSATIABLE SCOT
A small favor turns into a big complication…
All Keri Pearson has to do is lie about who she is and pretend to be married to a charming Scot for three hours. Tristan Baird’s stunning accomplice is the kind of woman who is too smart to ever trust a former conman. Their three-hour commitment stretches into five sexually charged days as they fight their explosive connection.

    KILTED FOR PLEASURE
Callan Baird sees no problem turning their work relationship into a sexual one. Victoria Burke refuses to break her boss’s no-fraternization rule. He’s the one thing she wants and the one thing she can’t have. He’s had his one great love, and doesn’t want a replacement. His heart doesn’t agree, because she’s everything he desires.

    KILT TEASE
The deal between them is simple. All Kate has to do is pose as Quinton’s girlfriend in public. In exchange for helping him salvage an important business deal, Kate gets many opportunities to say yes—in bed and out of it.
Then reality, and the press, threaten their fictional romance. Quinton will have to trust that Kate’s feelings for him are genuine or risk losing her for good.

    SCOT APPEAL
Marcus Baird has been called a lot of things: Scottish bastard, heartless, ruthless, but thanks to his new neighbor, he could add ginger buff guy. The ruthless part is true, at least. His current occupation as a handyman is a front to fuel a bidding war between his former employer and the next private equity firm in his sights—an undertaking that should have all his attention, but Ivy makes him an offer he cannot refuse.

  1. Carrie G says:

I noticed Silent in the Grave (Lady Julia Grey mystery #1) by Deanna Raybourn is $1.99 today on Kindle, as is the third book of the Lady Darby mysteries, A Grave Matter, by Anna Lee Huber. Both are excellent series.

  2. Ren Benton says:

A RIVER OF ROYAL BLOOD by Amanda Joy is $2.99. “North African-inspired fantasy world where two sisters must fight to the death to win the crown.” (With a new-and-improved cover to coordinate with the sequel in 2021, in case it sounds familiar but you don’t recognize the refresh.)

  3. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

“Under the Kilt Bundle”. When I think about a bundle under a kilt, a bunch of stories just isn’t what comes to mind.

  4. Jennie says:

“The Prince and the Dressmaker” is a wonderful story that I loved. I’ve struggled to find other graphic novels with as well developed a story and as lush artwork.

  5. Todd says:

I remember, years ago, someone asking a representative from the U.K. embassy (in honor of Alexandria, Virginia’s Scottish Christmas Walk) what is worn under the kilt. The response, “Nothing is worn under the kilt. It’s all in perfect working order.”

  6. Escapeologist says:

@Jennie I haven’t read The Prince and the Dressmaker yet, but it sounds like you may also enjoy The Witch Boy graphic novel by Molly Ostertag

  7. omphale says:

Headliners by Lucy Parker is $1.99 on Amazon (finally my London Celebrities collection is complete!)

  8. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

    @Todd, what. brilliant response LOL

  9. Lina says:

So happy with the KDD Kindle Daily Deals lately. Jasmine Guillery and now The Trouble With Hating You, Both have been on my wish list.

  10. I_Simon says:

I liked The Trouble with Hating You, but it definitely needs a CW for sexual assault and the heroine is slut shamed and treated pretty terribly by various people in the book. That said, I did really enjoy the slow buildup of trust between Liya and Jay and I was ultimately happy with their HEA. I also really enjoyed the depiction of female friendship and relationships.

  11. MeMe says:

I want to underscore I_Simon’s CW for The Trouble With Hating You. The book lacks subtlety and nuance so the slut shaming is heavy handed AF and pretty hard to read because there are after school special style conversations between ADULT HUMANS about how its wrong to slut shame that manage to miss the point entirely as we’re told the reason slut shaming is wrong is apparently because you can’t be 100% sure she is a slut.
The heroine is not a slut it turns out because her number is lower than REAL sluts. Yes, she’s had casual sex BUT she hates herself for it so it doesn’t count… She’s also assaulted on page but it’s her own fault because of what she was wearing (there’s some lip service paid to that not mattering but the takeaway is that IT MATTERS A LOT).
The sexual predator who attempts to date rape the heroine did so because she has “a reputation” as a “bad girl”. This is someone she met at a coffeeshop and these characters are adults in a major city but also WHAT?!
The Trouble With Hating You traffics in the damaging and provably untrue theory that male violence has anything to do with the victim. The heroine’s mother is only trapped in an abusive marriage because she’s too meek. The heroine could have protected herself from being victimized if she were a virgin who didn’t wear high heels. Its all very noble of the hero to not care about such things but the novel still trades in this anti-reality misogyny.

On the HAPPY reading end of the spectrum: I’ve re-ordered Prince and the Dressmaker more times than I know because I keep giving it away. It’s the perfect gift for every hard to shop for person I know. It’s a hug of a book and so so fun.

  12. DonnaMarie says:

@I_Simon & MeMe, thank you. That may be the fastest a book went on and came off my tbr list.

  13. Maite says:

Am I the only one who squealed in delight at “The prince and the dressmaker” cover? With grabby hands?

(It happens every time I see it. I might have deafened the librarians when I first saw it)

  14. Kris Bock says:

Love The Prince and the Dressmaker. I borrowed it via hoopla, but at this price, I get my own copy!

  15. Sydneysider says:

@I_Simon and @MeMe, thank you. I would have one-clicked without this and regretted it.

  16. cleo says:

so forward by mina v. esguerra is $1.99.

I saw on goodreads that it was released recently and the price is supposed to go up. I just grabbed it and it’s cute – m/f romance between two former national athletes – a male, bi figure skater and female hockey player – set in the Philippines.
