  • The Wolf at the Door

The Wolf at the Door by Charlie Adhara

The Wolf at the Door by Charlie Adhara is $1.99 at Amazon! This is a m/m paranormal romance and was recommended by Aarya in our Underrated Authors & Romances Rec League. Though this one wasn’t Aarya’s favorite in the series, she still really liked this one.

A former FBI agent is partnered with the enemy in this suspenseful male/male shifter romance from debut author Charlie Adhara

Hunting for big bad wolves was never part of Agent Cooper Dayton’s plan, but a werewolf attack lands him in the carefully guarded Bureau of Special Investigations. A new case comes with a new partner: ruggedly sexy werewolf Oliver Park.

Park is an agent of The Trust, a werewolf oversight organization working to ease escalating tensions with the BSI. But as far as Cooper’s concerned, it’s failing. As they investigate a series of mysterious deaths unlike anything they’ve seen, every bone in Cooper’s body is suspicious of his new partner—even when Park proves himself as competent as he is utterly captivating.

When more people vanish, pressure to solve the case skyrockets. And though he’d resolved to keep things professional, Cooper’s friction with Park soon erupts…into a physical need that can’t be contained or controlled. But with a body count that’s rising by the day, werewolves and humans are in equal danger. If Cooper and Park don’t catch the killer soon, one—or both—of them could be the next to go.

  • His Dark Kiss

His Dark Kiss by Eve Silver

RECOMMENDED: His Dark Kiss by Eve Silver is 99c at Amazon! As of right now, it’s $3.99 elsewhere. This is the second book in the Dark Gothic series, and the first one is $2.99! Elyse read this one and gave it a B+:

If you’ve never read a Gothic and want to try one, or are just looking for seasonally spooky read, His Dark Kiss would be a good place to start.

Rumors of madness and murder lurk within the crumbling walls of isolated Manorbrier Castle. But Emma Parrish is not easily put off. She accepts a position no one else dares, as governess to the son of Lord Anthony Craven, the castle’s dark master. Her presence stirs up shadows and threat. She feels unseen eyes watching her. Eerie laughter haunts her. And the seductive pull of Anthony Craven lures her.

The mystery of Anthony Craven’s shadowy past lurk behind the locked doors of the estate’s forbidden Round Tower. Mysterious lights flash there in the night. The servants whisper warnings of death. And Anthony himself warns Emma that there is only danger to be found in his sensual embrace.

Powerfully drawn to the dangerously alluring Anthony, Emma finds herself unable to deny her deepest yearnings. But even as she succumbs to the master of Manorbrier, she is touched by the whisper of evil that rises from the secrets of his past.

  • Turning Darkness Into Light

Turning Darkness Into Light by Marie Brennan

RECOMMENDED: Turning Darkness Into Light by Marie Brennan is $2.99! Carrie read this one and loved it. Though it’s a standalone, she doesn’t necessarily recommend it as a gateway into Brennan’s books.

Given my enjoyment of the scholarship, the world-building, the mythology that unfolds, and the political intrigue, I’ll snap any forthcoming sequel up in a heartbeat.

As the renowned granddaughter of Isabella Camherst (Lady Trent, of the riveting and daring Draconic adventure memoirs) Audrey Camherst has always known she, too, would want to make her scholarly mark upon a chosen field of study.

When Lord Gleinheigh recruits Audrey to decipher a series of ancient tablets holding the secrets of the ancient Draconean civilization, she has no idea that her research will plunge her into an intricate conspiracy, one meant to incite rebellion and invoke war. Alongside dearest childhood friend and fellow archeologist Kudshayn, must find proof of the conspiracy before it’s too late.

TURNING DARKNESS INTO LIGHT is a delightful fantasy of manners, the heir to the award-winning Natural History of Dragons series, a perfect stepping stone into an alternate Victorian-esque fantasy landscape.

  • Her Royal Highness

Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins

Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins is $1.99! This is a f/f contemporary YA with a budding romance between a Scottish royal and an American at an exclusive school. So much catnip, right?! Flora, the princess, is a character from Hawkins first book in the series, but you should get by just fine reading out of order.

Regal romance abounds in this flirty, laugh-out-loud companion novel to Royals, by New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins.

Millie Quint is devastated when she discovers that her sort-of-best friend/sort-of-girlfriend has been kissing someone else. Heartbroken and ready for a change of pace, Millie decides to apply for scholarships to boarding schools . . . the farther from Houston the better.

Soon, Millie is accepted into one of the world’s most exclusive schools, located in the rolling highlands of Scotland. Here, the country is dreamy and green; the school is covered in ivy, and the students think her American-ness is adorable.

The only problem: Mille’s roommate Flora is a total princess.

She’s also an actual princess. Of Scotland.

At first, the girls can’t stand each other, but before Millie knows it, she has another sort-of-best-friend/sort-of-girlfriend. Princess Flora could be a new chapter in her love life, but Millie knows the chances of happily-ever-afters are slim . . . after all, real life isn’t a fairy tale . . . or is it?

New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins brings the feels and the laughs to her latest romance.

  1. JudyW says:

The Charlie Adhara series is excellent!

  2. Ren Benton says:

The Eve Silver books are unrelated to one another, so don’t worry about reading out of order. This is the one I DNF’d more than halfway through (from my notes: She asks him why he has a head in a jar. There may be a perfectly valid forensic medicine reason for this macabre collection, as he is known to be a doctor, but his answer is “To remind me of my humanity.” Instead of saying “Not really what I wanted to know, Anthony, so I’ll rephrase the question—whose head is in the fucking jar and what are you doing with it?”, she just drops the subject, as if keeping a head in a jar is a normal thing normal people do to remind themselves of their normal humanity, and then they have sex as if head-in-a-jar didn’t cause a huge freakout a minute ago, and that’s where I quit because I discovered heretofore unknown strong feelings about the amount of time that needs to elapse between heads in jars and boinking.), but I’ve generally enjoyed them otherwise.

  3. hng23 says:

That blurb for The Dark Kiss reads like the Old Skool gothics my mother was so fond of, back in the day.

  4. Msb says:

Turning Darkness into Light is absolutely marvelous. Read it right now!
A story about “whose story is this, and who decides what it means?” Has never been more topical.

  5. Batgirl says:

His Dark Kiss looks like fun, but I burst out laughing at “Manorbrier Castle” and doubt I can approach the story soberly now.

  6. Anne says:

I love Adhara’s Big Bad Wolf series, highly recommend. I’m actually not a fan of shifter romance so I picked this up with some reluctance but ended up loving it. The next book is out March 1st and I can’t wait!

  7. Katie Lynn says:

I also really enjoyed the Adhara series, and thank you for the tip on the next book, Anne!

  8. I also adore the Charlie Adhara series and re-read it because I can, and was delighted to see there’s a new book coming out!

The second book opens with one of my all-time favorite completely random scenes, where an older women ask one character why hs is buying flowers, and what kinds of flowers he should be for different occasions. I love that bit SO MUCH.
