  • Rogue Most Wanted

Rogue Most Wanted by Janna MacGregor

RECOMMENDED: Rogue Most Wanted by Janna MacGregor is $1.99! I believe the price will go up to $2.99 later in the week. Elyse gave this one a B+:

For me, the charm of Will’s beta-hero kindness, his family’s welcome, and Thea’s realistic relationship with an aging grandparent overrode any irritation I might have had at the plot.

There’s one creed all Cavensham men subscribe to: they fall in love completely, and decidedly. But what happens when the woman you fall in love with is already your wife? Rogue Most Wanted is the next book in the sparkling, romantic Cavensham Heiress series by Janna MacGregor.

    SHE NEEDS TO MARRY HIM

Miss Theodora Worth needs to marry fast in order to keep the land within her family. It’s been her heart and home for years, and she’ll not lose it to anyone. There’s just one problem—as a woman who was raised in isolation by her grandfather, she’s completely incapable of pouring a cup of tea, never mind wooing a man. She’ll need a little matchmaking help from her sprightly next-door neighbor in order to find a convenient husband…

SO THEY’LL FORM A FAKE ENGAGEMENT
Lord William Cavensham’s heart was broken years ago, and since that day he vowed to never love again. But his spirited Great Aunt Stella has demanded he marry, or he’ll not inherit a single penny from her. And she’s got just the woman in mind—her beautiful and completely hapless next-door neighbor, Thea…

BUT PERHAPS IT’S NOT SO FAKE AFTER ALL

Thea and Will agree there’s no sense in really, truly marrying each other. Will wholeheartedly believes he’s incapable of love, and Thea refuses to live out the rest of her days married but lonely. They agree to fake an engagement until the week is out—and in the meantime, Will vows to help Thea find the man of her dreams. But the more he helps her, the more Will believes Thea might be the one to mend his broken heart. And despite meeting scores of suitors to help save her land, Will may be the rogue Thea wants the most after all…

  • Firelight

    Firelight by Kristen Callihan

Firelight by Kristen Callihan is $1.99! This is the first book in the Darkest London series, a series that I mostly enjoy. In the first three books, the heroines are sisters and I’d rank them in their chronological order. The third is my least favorite, namely because it contains a lot of tropes that aren’t my thing. However, I still have enjoyed what I’ve read thus far.

Once the flames are ignited . . .

Miranda Ellis is a woman tormented. Plagued since birth by a strange and powerful gift, she has spent her entire life struggling to control her exceptional abilities. Yet one innocent but irreversible mistake has left her family’s fortune decimated and forced her to wed London’s most nefarious nobleman.

They will burn for eternity . . .

Lord Benjamin Archer is no ordinary man. Doomed to hide his disfigured face behind masks, Archer knows it’s selfish to take Miranda as his bride. Yet he can’t help being drawn to the flame-haired beauty whose touch sparks a passion he hasn’t felt in a lifetime. When Archer is accused of a series of gruesome murders, he gives in to the beastly nature he has fought so hard to hide from the world. But the curse that haunts him cannot be denied. Now, to save his soul, Miranda will enter a world of dark magic and darker intrigue. For only she can see the man hiding behind the mask.

  • Geekerella

    Geekerella by Ashley Poston

Geekerella by Ashley Poston is $1.99! This is a YA Cinderella retelling with lots of nerdery and set at a convention. Readers found this one to be pretty adorable, but rather forgettable once they finished. Have you read this one?

Cinderella goes to the con in this fandom-fueled twist on the classic fairy tale.

Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad’s old costume), Elle’s determined to win…unless her stepsisters get there first.

Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons—before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise.

Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom.

  • My Lady’s Choosing

My Lady’s Choosing by Kitty Curran

My Lady’s Choosing by Kitty Curran and Larissa Zageris is $1.99! This is an interactive romance novel, though I’m not sure how the execution works digitally. Carrie gave this one a B:

It’s an affectionate parody of historical romance with pen and ink illustrations and a tendency towards intentionally terrible similes and metaphors that are deployed during sex scenes in such a way to inspire many a spit take.

The romance novel that lets you pick your path, follow your heart, and find happily ever after

You are the plucky but penniless heroine in the center of eighteenth-century society, courtship season has begun, and your future is at hand. Will you flip forward fetchingly to find love with the bantering baronet Sir Benedict Granville? Or turn the page to true love with the hardworking, horse-loving highlander Captain Angus McTaggart? Or perhaps race through the chapters chasing a good (and arousing) man gone mad, bad, and scandalous to know, Lord Garraway Craven? Or read on recklessly and take to the Continent as the “traveling companion” of the spirited and adventuresome Lady Evangeline? Or yet some other intriguing fate? Make choices, turn pages, and discover all the daring delights of the multiple (and intertwining!) storylines. And in every path you pick, beguiling illustrations bring all the lust and love to life.

  1. Emily B says:

Agreed on the Geekerella – very cute, though I had an issue with just how awful the stepmom and one of the stepsisters are (it requires a suspension of disbelief I couldn’t quite find). In the end though not super memorable. Will enjoyably fill an afternoon.

  2. Lisa F says:

Geekarella and the MacGreggor were cute; JMcG is pretty underrated I think.

  3. MaryK says:

I like that the Darkest London series is paranormal. Historical PNR isn’t very common.

  4. Kira says:

My Lady’s Choosing works very well in Kindle format (at least, when read on an iPhone). However, there are no, uh, “beguiling illustrations” for each pathway. There are portraits of each of the potential partners in their introduction, however.

  5. Heather P says:

@Emily B, I felt exactly the same way about Geekerella.

  6. GraceElizabeth says:

I wish there was more historical PNR! There’s Darkest London, Bec McMaster’s series with vampires, and Emily Larkin’s Baleful Godmother series. The latter has only magical heroines getting together with non-magical and very confused heroes and I love the reversal from the human heroine/sexy paranormal hero which is almost everywhere else in the genre.

  7. Karin says:

Mimi Matthews book “The Viscount and the Vicar’s Daughter” is FREE right now for Kindle. She’s been getting lots of mentions in the Whatcha Reading posts, so if you haven’t tried her yet, I recommend snapping it up. And another of her books, The Matrimonial Advertisement, is on sale for $1.49. I thought it was her best. An excellent read.
    Geekarella sounds adorable!

  8. MaryK says:

There’s a steampunk historical series by Nancy Campbell Allen. I’ve read the first book and liked it.

  9. Kareni says:

@Karin, thank you! I’d previously enjoyed a novella by Mimi Matthews and will be happy to read more by her.
