Winterblaze by Kristen Callihan is $1.99! This is book three in the Darkest London series. I love this series! However, it wasn’t my favorite for a couple reasons, namely the tropes here aren’t my bag. This is a second chance romance with an estranged married couple. This book is available elsewhere, though I’m only seeing the sale price at Amazon.
Happy New Year! It’s a short and sweet release week for books on our radar, though things do beef up as we progress through the month. What books coming out this week are on your TBR pile? Let us know in the comments!
The Deathless One by Emma Hamm is $1.99! This came out in August and I mentioned it in Hide Your Wallet. I think I preordered this one. Did any of you pick this one up?
I’ve made this a Lightning Review because there is absolutely no way to discuss the book in more detail without ruining the reading experience. This book had me smiling and gasping and longing and holding my breath. A perfect reading experience for someone like me who needs rich emotional connections and cleverly constructed reveals in her books.
RECOMMENDED: The Secret Lives of Country Gentleman by KJ Charles is $1.99 and a KDD! Carrie gave this one a B+:
The strengths of this book are in the balancing of conflict with humor and optimism, the rich characterizations, and the portrayal of life on the marsh, as well as a romance between two opposites. It’s entertaining, exciting, and immersive. While I wanted a little more from the ending, I enjoyed this book overall!
When I started this book, I was expecting a jam-packed, over-the top fantasy with a lot of snark and heart. And House of Earth and Blood did deliver that, even if there were some missteps in execution. If you’ve enjoyed Maas’ other books, and if you can handle all the violence and slavery and slut-shaming, it’s worth it to push through the awkward beginning and the dragging bits in the middle for big payoff at the end.
RECOMMENDED: Earls Trip by Jenny Holiday is $1.99! Fingers crossed this isn’t a leftover deal from the weekend. This is a standalone historical romance and was described as Ted Lasso meets Bridgerton for a 19th century spin on The Hangover. We ran a guest review of this one and it earned a B+.
The Forbidden Duke by Darcy Burke is $2.99! This is a romance between a “ruined” heroine and the man who ruined her. It’s the first book in the Untouchables series.
Get a Life, Chloe Brown saw my expectations’ proffered hand and kissed it gently, and then proceeded to charm their pants off. In a tent. With s’mores. (Not with s’mores, because s’mores apparently are not a thing in the UK.) This metaphor got away from me, but you get the idea. This book is outstanding.
Starling House by Alix E. Harrow is $2.99! Sarah and I mentioned this in Hide Your Wallet last October. I think I wound up grabbing it in audio, but am notoriously bad at whittling down my audiobook library.
The Cutthroat Countess by Minerva Spencer is $3.99 at Amazon! It’s available elsewhere, but not at the sale prince. This is the third book in the Wicked Women of Whitechapel. Book one was favorably reviewed.
