The Wedding Date is charming and delightful, and it saved me from getting overly hysterical on a flight to Costa Rica. It’s not a perfect book, and I found myself giving the hero my “WTF” face a few times, but the awesomeness of the heroine thrilled me.
RECOMMENDED: Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson is $2.99! It’s a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price-matched. Elyse loved this book and how it helped her deal with chronic pain. She gave it an A:
Furiously Happy is a rare book, a combination of ridiculous humor and poignant reflection. I think anyone who has suffered from a stigmatized illness will identify with Lawson’s honest, sometimes heartbreaking, description of her own pain. =
RECOMMENDED: Highland Promise by Alyson McLayne is $2.99! This is the first book in The Sons of Gregor MacLeod series and the other books are also on sale. I read this one and gave it a B+:
If you love a Disney princess, in all their saccharine, animal-loving, pure-of-heart glory, you’ll love Caitlin. If you have a weakness for kilted heroes, there’s plenty of plaid to go around. It’s a pretty pleasing start to a new series and worth a shot, especially since the cover model has some Sam Heughan vibes, don’t you think?
Never Love a Highlander by Maya Banks is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and today’s deals include a couple other romance titles. This is the third book in the McCabe Trilogy. Readers are divided on the hero. He’s a bit of a jerk in this book. Some felt he had a worthy redemption arc, though others disagreed.
Spacer’s Cinderella by Adria Rose is 99c at Amazon! This price lasts for about another day and a half, and then it goes up to $2.99. I’ve seen this talked about everywhere on social media; it’s a Cinderella retelling set in space. Readers seemed divided on the heroine, but I think I’ll be taking a chance on this one.
Crystal Singer by Anne McCaffrey is 99c! This is one of the books Sassy Outwater mentioned on episode 200 of our podcast where we talked about what books made us romance readers. Some people feel that the book is a bit dated from when they first read it, while many loved the creativity McCaffrey has when building fantasy settings.
If you read and loved Code Name Verity this is a book for you. I said a couple of years ago that I expected a lot of World War I stories to come out of this centennial, and I’m pretty pleased to have been right. There are a lot of really interesting stories emerging. I’m also really interested (for various reasons) in how people deal with the PTSD that come out of traumatic periods in history, and this story is a deeply layered exploration of just that.
Most Valuable Playboy by Lauren Blakely is 99c! This is a sports romance with a fake relationship element. Readers say this has a great blend of humor and sexiness. However, others felt annoyed with the heroine’s constant pining for the hero.
Joy Ride by Lauren Blakely is 99c! This is a contemporary romance and the fifth book in the Big Rock series., though it can be read on its own. Readers loved the tongue-in-cheek humor mixed with the romance. However, be warned that this book, and the rest of the books in the series, are told from the hero’s point of view.
Tinderbox by Rachel Grant is $2.99! This is the first book in the Flashpoint series, which is more romantic suspense than contemporary. I saw a huge ad for this series at RT in Reno and immediately added it to my TBR. Readers say the competence porn level is high and this book might qualify for the “Extreme Location” square for Ripped Bodice bingo.
