  • The Real Deal

The Real Deal by Lauren Blakely

The Real Deal by Lauren Blakely is $2.99! This is a contemporary romance with a fake relationship and forced proximity. Readers say this does a great job blending humor and romance, while others wanted a more emotional payoff. Have you read this one?

Get ready for your next favorite romantic comedy, THE REAL DEAL!

April Hamilton wants you to know she hasn’t been on Craigslist since that time she sold her futon after college. She doesn’t even spend that much time online. And even if she did, she would not be looking up personal ads. But going home alone for her family’s summer reunion is an invitation for every single relative to butt into her personal life. She simply can’t handle another blind date with the butcher, the baker or the candlestick maker from her hometown. So when she finds the Craigslist ad for a boyfriend-for-hire, she’s ready to pay to play.

Heading Home and Need a Buffer? I’m the REAL DEAL.

Theo Banks has been running from the past for years. He’s this close to finally settling all his debts, and one more job as a boyfriend-for-hire will do the trick. He’s no gigolo. Please. He’s something of an actor, and he knows how to slip into any role, including pretending to be April’s new beau — the bad boy with the heart of gold.

Even if it means sleeping in close quarters in that tiny little bed in her parents’ inn. Even if it means spinning tales of a romance that starts to feel all too true. What neither one of them counts on is that amid the egg toss, the arm wrestling, and a fierce game of Lawn Twister that has them tangled up together, they might be feeling the real deal.

She only wanted to show her family once and for all that she had no need to settle down.

He didn’t expect to have the time of his life at her parent’s home.

They didn’t plan on loving every single second of the game.

But can a masterful game of pretend result in true love?

  • The Vine Witch

The Vine Witch by Luanne Smith

The Vine Witch by Luanne G. Smith is $1.99 at Amazon! I’m obsessed with the moody florals of this cover. I saw one review that was disappointed the description didn’t overtly mention this was a romance novel. GOD FORBID.

A young witch emerges from a curse to find her world upended in this gripping fantasy of betrayal, vengeance, and self-discovery set in turn-of-the-century France.

For centuries, the vineyards at Château Renard have depended on the talent of their vine witches, whose spells help create the world-renowned wine of the Chanceaux Valley. Then the skill of divining harvests fell into ruin when sorcière Elena Boureanu was blindsided by a curse. Now, after breaking the spell that confined her to the shallows of a marshland and weakened her magic, Elena is struggling to return to her former life. And the vineyard she was destined to inherit is now in the possession of a handsome stranger.

Vigneron Jean-Paul Martel naively favors science over superstition, and he certainly doesn’t endorse the locals’ belief in witches. But Elena knows a hex when she sees one, and the vineyard is covered in them. To stay on and help the vines recover, she’ll have to hide her true identity, along with her plans for revenge against whoever stole seven winters of her life. And she won’t rest until she can defy the evil powers that are still a threat to herself, Jean-Paul, and the ancient vine-witch legacy in the rolling hills of the Chanceaux Valley.

  • The Earl and the Reluctant Lady

The Earl and the Reluctant Lady by Robyn DeHart

The Earl and the Reluctant Lady by Robyn DeHart is 99c! This historical romance is the third book in the Lords of Vice series and features a spy hero. Some readers found the heroine to be on the self-righteous side, while others found her to be charmingly clever. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

He knew he could never have her…

From the very moment Agnes Watkins walked into his life, Fletcher Banks, Earl of Wakefield, has wanted her. Agnes is not just beautiful, she’s clever and determined. Despite her uncommon beauty, she refuses to conform to society’s standards. She’s also the sister of the man who holds Fletcher’s career as a spy in his hands. And that makes her completely off-limits.

She thought she could change him…

Tall, impossibly broad, and handsome as a sin, Fletcher Banks is a brazen scoundrel. Known for his reputation as the greatest lover in London, he’s the only man who’s ever proved a temptation for Agnes. Her duties with the Ladies of Virtue means she can’t overlook his lustful ways. The time has come to reform this rake.

    Together their desire is undeniable.

With Agnes setting her virtuous sights on him, Fletcher can’t ignore her any longer. Maybe spending more time with her will release him from his infatuation with her without falling further from her brother’s good graces. But the more time they spend together, the harder it is to deny that this infatuation may be more than lust…

  1. Deianira says:

It’s been a while, but I remember “The Real Deal” as a pleasant lazy-Sunday read. It’s not one of my favorite Blakeley books – there are so many to choose from! – but it’s a good read, & fake relationships are one of my flavors of catnip. So if that’s your jam, the sale price is definitely worth it.

  2. Lisa F says:

The DeHart suffers from an intense case of informed attribute-itis. The heroine just went from a wallflower to a confident lady spy in a time jump, with all of her training happening off-page.

  3. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Sawyer Bennett has always been a bit too much tell-not-show for my taste, but that Tarzan trope sounds interesting—although there’s possibly a bit too much of the “noble savage” involved. However, if you’re looking for a really good “untamed, uncivilized male” romance, Annika Martin’s SAVAGE MAFIA PRINCE (sadly, not on sale) is a primo example:

  4. Alexandra says:

Ummm, who can read the description for The Vine Witch and not immediately know there’s going to be a romance??

  5. Carole says:

When my life is busy and I am stressed, I just want a light feel-good romance with low angst and clever dialogue. I found The Real Deal from Lauren Blakely worked for me. I found it charming, sexy, clever, adorable and sigh-worthy and I ended up putting it on my All Time Favourite Light Romances List.

  6. MaryK says:

@Alexandra – Me. With that cover, I require proof. And I wouldn’t accept that complaint as proof because non-romance readers’ understanding of the genre is … lacking.

  7. Emma says:

Not sure where to put this, but since this post has a book featuring a witch… is anyone watching/going to watch Luna Nera on Netflix? It’s an Italian show tagged as romantic fantasy about 17th-century Italian patriarchy persecuting witches. Rated TV-MA, so maybe on the steamy side? I’m about to watch the first episode and would be interested to hear from others if it turns out to be good (or horribly bad).
