A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas is $2.99! This book and series is insanely popular and has Beauty and the Beast elements. However, some felt it didn’t live up to the hype or it had too much sexxxytimes for a YA-positioned book and feels more New Adult. I believe most of the books in the series are part of today’s KDD in anticipation of Maas’ new release.
My Last Duchess is pure, frothy, Georgian-era historical escapism. Reading it felt like being wrapped up in a warm blanket while watching a picturesque snowfall outside. I can’t say it was particularly substantial or thought-provoking, but for the most part, it was a pleasure. The Night Mark by Tiffany Reisz is $3.49! This is a time travel/time slippage book with some romantic elements. However, be warned that this book deals a lot with grief, if you are particularly sensitive to that. Despite this book being different from Reisz’ Original Sinners series, readers say that the writing is still as compelling.
RECOMMENDED: Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin is $2.99! Carrie, who will read any and all Pride and Prejudice retellings, gave this one a B+:
Now THIS is how it’s done! Ayesha At Last is a lovely loose retelling of Pride and Prejudice, with a perfect mix of humor, heartbreak, misunderstandings, and humor. It’s a contemporary set in Canada and the characters are described with empathy and with plenty of surprises.
RECOMMENDED: The Highwayman by Kerrigan Byrne is 99c! I think this was Byrne’s debut? I could be wrong, but it’s book one in the Victorian Rebels series and it earned an A-. If you love Old Skool vibes, pick this one up.
