This Rec League comes from Leigh. Thanks, Leigh! I recently re-read an old (though a bit dated) favorite of mine, Finding Laura by Kay Hooper, and it reminded me how much I like the “eternal soul mates” trope: love that happens over and over again through time. It’s not time travel, just two souls who keep meeting, falling in love, living lives, then being reincarnated and fated to meet again, over and over. Another example … Continue reading The Rec League: Eternal Soulmates→
It’s February! Some of us have already been hit with some snow (it wasn’t as bad as predicted) and we’re making the crawl to Valentine’s Day. I treated myself to some fancy chocolate because I damn well can. So far, my February has started with me being so damn tired. Anyone else out there just tired? It’s a whole mix of season depression, lots of work, and this damn pandemic. … If you missed it, … Continue reading Links: Pandas, Michael B. Jordan, & More→
RECOMMENDED: Ten Things I Hate About the Duke by Loretta Chase is $1.99! Not sure how long this deal will last, but thanks to everyone who let us know about this sale. Catherine loved this one and wrote a Squee review for it:
Ten Things I Hate About The Duke was a joy to read. The humour and banter was delightful, but this was also a book with a lot of heart.
Happy Wednesday people! It’s Bachelor time! When we open Queen Victoria and Kit are taking a walk, and Victoria is complaining about the new girls. “I love the OGs and the house was so great until these new people came. Like I don’t think anything of them. And the new girls were like, ‘yeah it’s been really hard,’ and I’m like what? We haven’t even started the hazing process.” Yeah, she’s…great. So then we cut to the … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelor–S25 E5: Ashley V→
Bitchery, I feel personally attacked by how good Winter’s Orbit was. I feel that this book could only be the result of someone, somewhere, telepathically spying on me and then tailoring a book directly to my personal interests. I mean, this is a bona fide queer science fiction slow-burn romance with an arranged political marriage, interplanetary political intrigues, a murder mystery, and a creepy and mystical intergalactic bureaucracy that must be placated. This book manages … Continue reading Winters Orbit by Everina Maxwell→
Maya: I loved so many of the stories! One of the standouts for me was “When Life Hands You a Lemon Fruitbomb” by Amerie (yes, that Amerie), which opened up the anthology. It’s a science fiction story with aliens, wormhole travel, and a classic time travel paradox
Ugh, I miss romance conventions and just book cons in general. But anyway! This HaBO comes from Shelly, who is looking for this contemporary rom-com: The main character is a female journalist/writer/maybe publisher and she is reluctantly sent to cover a romance writers convention. There is a cover model competition and one of the supporting characters is in the competition, though he’s not the romantic lead. Comedy ensues mixed with drinks. I’m not sure when … Continue reading HaBO: Journalist at a Romance Convention→

Content warnings: Lots and lots of grief and loss, also death of a secondary character Dearest Josephine is an epistolary novel about grief and coming of age, disguised as a paranormal gothic romance. It is a sweet, clever, beautiful book, and I adored it. In 1820, the recently orphaned Elias Roch meets Josephine DeClare at an inn, and falls instantly and passionately in love. But in the morning, she is gone, and he has no … Continue reading Dearest Josephine by Caroline George→
A Cowboy to Remember was an enjoyable read, but left me with the type of disappointment that only happens when your expectations are very high. Still, this is a low angst, and frequently funny romance that allows readers to get their cowboy fix without traveling to a red state.
