  • Ten Things I Hate About the Duke

Ten Things I Hate About the Duke by Loretta Chase

RECOMMENDED: Ten Things I Hate About the Duke by Loretta Chase is $1.99! Not sure how long this deal will last, but thanks to everyone who let us know about this sale. Catherine loved this one and wrote a Squee review for it:

Ten Things I Hate About The Duke was a joy to read. The humour and banter was delightful, but this was also a book with a lot of heart.

USA Today bestselling author Loretta Chase continues her Difficult Dukes series with this delightful spin on Shakespeare’s classic, The Taming of the Shrew.

    This time, who’s taming whom…

Cassandra Pomfret holds strong opinions she isn’t shy about voicing. But her extremely plain speaking has caused an uproar, and her exasperated father, hoping a husband will rein her in, has ruled that her beloved sister can’t marry until Cassandra does.

Now, thanks to a certain wild-living nobleman, the last shreds of Cassandra’s reputation are about to disintegrate, taking her sister’s future and her family’s good name along with them.

The Duke of Ashmont’s looks make women swoon. His character flaws are beyond counting. He’s lost a perfectly good bride through his own carelessness. He nearly killed one of his two best friends. Still, troublemaker that he is, he knows that damaging a lady’s good name isn’t sporting.

The only way to right the wrong is to marry her…and hope she doesn’t smother him in his sleep on their wedding night.

  • Flashed

    Flashed by Zoey Castile

Flashed by Zoey Castile is $1.99! This is the third and final book in the Happy Endings series and can be read on its own. It has some Beauty and the Beast vibes, but it was my least favorite out of the three. Have you read the series? How would you rank them?

When a man makes his living by his looks, he can forget that love—and lust—are more than skin deep. But the right woman can remind him …

A former soccer player, stripper, and model, legendary party boy Patrick Halloran finally gets his big break starring in the summer blockbuster. But when an accident leaves him changed forever, he hides away in his secluded Montana ranch. Only his new housekeeper is allowed inside—with one rule: she’s not allowed to see him. But Pat sees her, and she’s the most stunning woman he’s ever laid eyes on. Even her voice is beautiful. Still, Pat can’t allow himself to get close to anyone. Not without a fight at least …

Magdalena “Lena” Martel is a long way from Queens, New York. After a rough patch, the aspiring artist is working her way through college—even if it means keeping house for a man whose gruff voice she can only hear through a closed door. Still, Lena senses Pat’s got a good heart, maybe even a lovable one. She’s intrigued—until his anger sends her running into the freezing woods. Now Pat will have to find her—and when he does he may have found the one woman who can thaw his heart—not to mention the rest of him. But can their new bond survive the paparazzi—and their personal demons? …

  • A Winter’s Promise

A Winter’s Promise by Christelle Dabos

A Winter’s Promise by Christelle Dabos is $1.99! This is a translated work of YA fantasy and has some major crossover appeal. I picked this up based on a recommendation and absolutely loved it.

Lose yourself in the fantastic world of the arks and in the company of unforgettable characters in this French runaway hit, Christelle Dabos’ The Mirror Visitor quartet.

Plain-spoken, headstrong Ophelia cares little about appearances. Her ability to read the past of objects is unmatched in all of Anima and, what’s more, she possesses the ability to travel through mirrors, a skill passed down to her from previous generations. Her idyllic life is disrupted, however, when she is promised in marriage to Thorn, a taciturn and influential member of a distant clan. Ophelia must leave all she knows behind and follow her fiancé to Citaceleste, the capital of a cold, icy ark known as the Pole, where danger lurks around every corner and nobody can be trusted. There, in the presence of her inscrutable future husband, Ophelia slowly realizes that she is a pawn in a political game that will have far-reaching ramifications not only for her but for her entire world.

    The World of the Arks

Long ago, following a cataclysm called the Rupture, the world was shattered into many floating celestial islands, now known as arks. Over each, the spirit of an omnipotent and immortal ancestor abides. The inhabitants of these arks each possess a unique power. Ophelia, with her ability to read the pasts of objects, must navigate this fantastic, disjointed, perilous world using her trademark tenacity and quiet strength.

An unforgettable heroine, a rich and bountiful universe, intrigue and suspense: A Winter’s Promise is perfect for readers of Margaret Rogerson’s An Enchantment of Ravens, Melissa Albert’s The Hazel Wood, V.E. Schwab’s “Shades of Magic” series, Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone, Kenneth Oppel’s “Airborne” series, and N.K. Jemisin “Broken Earth” series.

  • Too Hard to Forget

Too Hard to Forget by Tessa Bailey

Too Hard to Forget by Tessa Bailey is $1.99! This is the third book in the Romancing the Clarksons series, but it can be read on its own. I’m a Bailey fan, but this series wasn’t my favorite. There’s a forbidden relationship element that some people weren’t sold on, though many readers said the hero does an amaaaaazing grovel. It has 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

This time, she’s calling the shots.

Peggy Clarkson is returning to her alma mater with one goal in mind: confront Elliott Brooks, the man who ruined her for all others, and remind him of what he’s been missing. Even after three years, seeing him again is like a punch in the gut, but Peggy’s determined to stick to her plan. Maybe then, once she has the upper hand, she’ll finally be able to move on.

In the years since Peggy left Cincinnati, Elliott has kept his focus on football. No distractions and no complications. But when Peggy walks back onto his practice field and into his life, he knows she could unravel everything in his carefully controlled world. Because the girl who was hard to forget is now a woman impossible to resist.

The description says A Winter’s Promise is part of a quartet. Does it end on a cliffhanger?

  5. SB Sarah says:

Argh! I’m sorry. Because of retailer’s geographic restrictions, we usually can’t see deals for Canada, the UK, etc. It’s very frustrating and I’m sorry about that.

Hi @maryK I don’t remember the exact ending to a winter promise but the story and romantic ark are definitely not resolved in this one !
I loved the series though 🙂

  8. Maite says:

I loved “A WINTER’S PROMISE”. And the sequel. And I am considering learning french because books 3 & 4 haven’t been translated yet, and major cliffhangers.

  9. M says:

@Maite: the third book in the Mirror Visitor Quartet, THE MEMORY OF BABEL, has been translated. It was published in the US in September/October 2020, if I remember correctly. I have the first three books on my TBR and hopefully I’ll be able to get to them when I can again finish books without listening to the audiobook simultaneously.
