  • The Dating Plan

The Dating Plan by Sara Desai

The Dating Plan by Sara Desai is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance that came out a little over a year ago and has a fake relationship. I’ve loved how colorful all of Desai’s covers have been. Have you read this one?

Daisy Patel is a software engineer who understands lists and logic better than bosses and boyfriends. With her life all planned out, and no interest in love, the one thing she can’t give her family is the marriage they expect. Left with few options, she asks her childhood crush to be her decoy fiance.

Liam Murphy is a venture capitalist with something to prove. When he learns that his inheritance is contingent on being married, he realizes his best friend’s little sister has the perfect solution to his problem. A marriage of convenience will get Daisy’s matchmaking relatives off her back and fulfill the terms of his late grandfather’s will. If only he hadn’t broken her tender teenage heart nine years ago…

Sparks fly when Daisy and Liam go on a series of dates to legitimize their fake relationship. Too late, they realize that very little is convenient about their arrangement. History and chemistry aren’t about to follow the rules of this engagement.

  • A Rogue of Her Own

A Rogue of Her Own by Grace Burrowes

A Rogue of Her Own by Grace Burrowes is $1.99! This is the fourth book in the Windham Brides series. Readers loved the writing and impending marriage of convenience. But, others wished they felt more chemistry between the main characters. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

For Miss Charlotte Windham, the best way to maintain her spinsterhood-and her independence-is a teeny, tiny brush with scandal. She chooses wealthy, handsome upstart Lucas Sherbourne as her unwitting accomplice. He’s intelligent, logical, and ambitious. What Charlotte doesn’t count on is that one kiss will lead them straight to the altar.

Sherbourne has no love for polite society, nor is he keen on being anybody’s husband of last resort. He is attracted to Charlotte’s boldness, though-and her family’s influence. Without a title, he knows he’ll never truly be part of their world, even as he and Charlotte inch closer to a marriage that means much more than convenience. But a scheming business partner is about to test that tenuous trust, forcing Sherbourne to make a drastic choice: his wealth or his wife.

  • Whiskey Sharp: Unraveled

Whiskey Sharp: Unraveled by Lauren Dane

Whiskey Sharp: Unraveled by Lauren Dane is $1.99! I know Sarah enjoyed this one. Here’s what she said about Unraveled, and she typed this while on a snow slope! She assured me that she stopped snowboarding first.

It’s low on relationship conflict and high on family conflict. I really liked the found family aspects. And the food.

The sharpest ache comes from wanting what you think you can’t have…

Maybe Dolan has lived independent, free-spirited and unattached since leaving home at sixteen. Whiskey Sharp, Seattle’s sexy vintage-styled barbershop and whiskey bar, gave her a job—and a reason to put down roots. Cutting hair by day, losing herself drumming in a punk rock band by night, she’s got it good.

But a longtime crush that turns into a hot, edgy night with brooding and bearded Alexsei Petrov makes it a hell of a lot better.

Maybe’s blunt attitude and carnal smile hooked Alexsei from the start. Protecting people is part of his nature and Maybe is meant to be his…even if she doesn’t know it. Yet. He can’t help himself from wanting to protect and care for her.

But Maybe’s fiery independent spirit means pushing back when Alexsei goes too far. Still, he’s not afraid to do a little pushing of his own to get what he wants—her in his life, and his bed, for good. Maybe’s more intoxicating than all the liquor on his shelf…and he’s not afraid to ride the blade’s edge to bind her to him.

  • On the Surface

On the Surface by Kate Willoughby

On the Surface by Kate Willoughby is 99c! This is a contemporary sports romance between a hockey player and a nurse. Many readers loved the premise, especially how the hero and heroine initially met, but mentioned some execution problems, like stilted dialogue.

NHL player Tim Hollander lost his temper one time and threw a water bottle at an abusive fan. After “Bottlegate,” he’s traded to the San Diego Barracudas, where he’ll need to keep the bad publicity to a minimum while proving he can still compete with the younger guys on the ice.

Erin Collier is a pediatric nurse who’s never seen a hockey game, but gets in line for Tim’s autograph at a PR event in hopes of impressing the doctor she has a crush on. When an obnoxious fan gets pushy toward Erin, Tim rushes to defend the pretty stranger, throwing a punch in the process.

Grateful for the rescue, Erin agrees to stand by Tim during the resulting press conference and host him at a hospital charity event. Their chemistry is palpable, and soon their lives are intertwined. But Erin doubts a hockey player is capable of anything resembling a real relationship. And if Tim can’t get her to see beyond what’s on the surface, they’ll never last longer than a single season…

Cathryn Fox’s The Sweet Talker is 99 cents.
Kati Wilde’s The Stoneheart Bride is also (it’s a new novella).

  2. DonnaMarie says:

I generally love Lauren Dane, but her decision to use an adverb as the main character’s name made for some difficult reading. Also this was the best of the three books in the trilogy.

  3. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@DonnaMarie: one of Pam Godwin’s books had a heroine named Maybe. I’d get confused because a character would say something like “Maybe I will go shopping,” and I couldn’t figure out if they were addressing the heroine or speculating about a future action. It’s like, there are literally thousands of names, why choose such a confusing one?

@flchen1: I was so thrilled to see a new book from Kati Wilde! I grabbed it first thing this morning. Kati has gone through some difficult & challenging times over the past year, and it looks like she’s finally emerging again. She has several books in the pipeline. Can’t wait!

Re ON THE SURFACE: I’m not sure I want to read a book that begins with a hero committing not one but two acts of physical violence. Throwing a bottle, throwing a punch…if I were the heroine, I’d run not walk to get away from this guy.

  4. flchen1 says:

@DiscoDollyDeb, if I remember rightly, I actually ended up enjoying On the Surface. I think the characters felt pretty real, and they definitely had some missteps as they got to know each other, and I don’t believe the hero continues in that vein at all…

And I agree–I’m over the moon to see that Kati Wilde has some more in store for us soon!

Also agree that my brain isn’t too pleased at trying to process “Maybe” as a name, LOL!

  5. Zuzus says:

“Maybe” as a name threw me until I got to Whiskey Barbershop, and all I could think of was little bits of beard hair floating in the whiskey. Maybe will definitely get a lot of health code violations.
