  • Unbuttoning the CEO

Unbuttoning the CEO by Mia Sosa

Unbuttoning the CEO by Mia Sosa is 99c! This contemporary romance has a bit of a taboo relationship element. However, I’m skeptical about the hero and his redemption arc. Reckless driving is no joke. This is also part of the Forever Yours digital imprint, so it’s a little on the shorter side at less than 300 pages.

WHO SAYS YOU CAN’T MIX BUSINESS WITH PLEASURE?

As the CEO of a large tech company and a semi-reformed bad boy, Ethan Hill is used to calling the shots. But when he’s sentenced to work two hundred hours of community service-for reckless driving, of all things-this chief executive needs to keep his real identity under wraps. Which gets increasingly difficult when he can’t stop thinking about his sexy new (temporary) boss.

The moment Graciela Ramirez meets Ethan, she’s tempted to throw all professionalism out the window. She can’t afford to get emotionally involved, but after a steamy session behind office doors, a no-strings-attached fling might be exactly what they need. He’ll protect his secret. She’ll protect her heart. What could possibly go wrong?

  • When You Love a Scotsman

When You Love a Scotsman by Hannah Howell

When You Love a Scotsman by Hannah Howell is $1.99! This is book two in the Seven Brides for Seven Scotsmen series with a road trip element. I haven’t read this series, but I’m completely curious about the American historical setting and Scottish heroes. Have you read any of these?

New York Times bestselling author Hannah Howell sweeps readers away with the passion-filled adventures of the MacEnroy brothers, seven daring Scotsmen who take on America in her most turbulent days—and capture the hearts of the ladies each is destined to wed . . .

With danger closing in from all sides, Abigail Jenson works tirelessly to protect her small Missouri farm. She doesn’t require saving—but a handsome officer appears on horseback just as ruthless marauders set her cabin ablaze. With nowhere else to turn, Abigail allows the soldier with the seductive Highlander’s gaze to escort her to shelter in a nearby town.

Matthew MacEnroy was reluctant to join his adopted nation’s conflict—until an enemy attack wounded two of his brothers. Bravely doing battle has its price when a proud, independent beauty comes under his watch—no military man can risk the powerful emotions their attraction has unleashed. But when Matthew himself is caught in the crossfire, Abigail leads their long journey home to MacEnroy valley . . . and her caring touch sparks the promise of a bold future together

  • Goldilocks

    Goldilocks by Laura Lam

RECOMMENDED: Goldilocks by Laura Lam is $2.99! Carrie reviewed this one and gave it a B+:

If you are in the mood for a female-centric political and scientific and familial thriller/drama set in a space, here you go. Don’t skip the Acknowledgements, which includes a fabulous reading list for more reading.

The Earth is in environmental collapse. The future of humanity hangs in the balance. But a team of women are preparing to save it. Even if they’ll need to steal a spaceship to do it.

Despite increasing restrictions on the freedoms of women on Earth, Valerie Black is spearheading the first all-female mission to a planet in the Goldilocks Zone, where conditions are just right for human habitation.

The team is humanity’s last hope for survival, and Valerie has gathered the best women for the mission: an ace pilot who is one of the only astronauts ever to have gone to Mars; a brilliant engineer tasked with keeping the ship fully operational; and an experienced doctor to keep the crew alive. And then there’s Naomi Lovelace, Valerie’s surrogate daughter and the ship’s botanist, who has been waiting her whole life for an opportunity to step out of Valerie’s shadow and make a difference.

The problem is that they’re not the authorized crew, even if Valerie was the one to fully plan the voyage. When their mission is stolen from them, they steal the ship bound for the new planet.

But when things start going wrong on board, Naomi begins to suspect that someone is concealing a terrible secret — and realizes time for life on Earth may be running out faster than they feared . . .

Goldilocks is a bold and thought-provoking new thriller for readers of The Martian and The Handmaid’s Tale.

  • Empire of Sand

Empire of Sand by Tasha Suri

Empire of Sand by Tasha Suri is $2.99! This is an adult fantasy novel with some romantic elements. Though this is marketed as adult fantasy, some readers it felt like it was more YA. Empire of Sand has been on my TBR pile for a while; have you read this one? Aarya highly recommends it.

A nobleman’s daughter with magic in her blood. An empire built on the dreams of enslaved gods. Empire of Sand is Tasha Suri’s captivating, Mughal India-inspired debut fantasy.

The Amrithi are outcasts; nomads descended of desert spirits, they are coveted and persecuted throughout the Empire for the power in their blood. Mehr is the illegitimate daughter of an imperial governor and an exiled Amrithi mother she can barely remember, but whose face and magic she has inherited.

When Mehr’s power comes to the attention of the Emperor’s most feared mystics, she must use every ounce of will, subtlety, and power she possesses to resist their cruel agenda.

Should she fail, the gods themselves may awaken seeking vengeance…

Empire of Sand is a lush, dazzling fantasy novel perfect for readers of City of Brass and The Wrath & the Dawn.

Respect to the cover artist of the Hannah Howell book for making the heroine both taller than the hero and clearly in control of the situation 🙂

  2. Carrie G says:

@sweetfa,I agree, except exactly how long are her legs?! From the position of her buttocks which are at the man’s navel, her legs are either abnormally long, she’s standing on a rock, or she’s wearing the highest stilettos in the world.

  3. BellaInAus says:

    @Carrie G
Given the blurb, I suspect he’s fainted and she’s trying to hold him up by his face. As you do.

Looking at his legs, he seems to have bent his knees weirdly. Either they told him to scootch down a little because he’s too tall for the woman and they forgot to paint in more skirts, or he’s trying to look semi-conscious because injured.

  4. giddypony says:

I’m a 6ft tall woman and dated a man 5ft7 – this is pretty accurate.

  5. Lynn says:

I’m always here for a roadtrip romance so “When You Love a Scotsman” has gone onto my wishlist. Although the reviews I’ve seen are very mixed especially considering the hero’s intentions with the heroine.

I read “Empire of Sand” last year and enjoyed it a lot – especially the world building. The romance is very slow burn and has an arranged marriage (with actual talk about consent!) that eventually turns into love.

  6. taffygrrl says:

I liked most of Empire of Sand, but there was one element of the ending that really frustrated me. If you read this, it is important to know that it is a VERY bittersweet ending. The specific thing that happened seems to be a trend in fantasy lately and it is a trope I hate tbh!
