  • Good Girl

    Good Girl by Lauren Layne

Good Girl by Lauren Layne is $2.99! The heroine is a country singer and the hero is a moody estate owner. I haven’t read this one, but I’ve read other Lauren Layne titles, and she writes such great dialogue. However, some readers thought the romance was missing something. Have you read this one?

Lauren Layne brings all the unpredictable heat of her USA Today bestseller Blurred Lines to an all-new cast of characters! Country music’s favorite good girl is hiding away from the world—only to find herself bunking with a guy who makes her want to be a little bad.

Jenny Dawson moved to Nashville to write music, not get famous. But when her latest record goes double platinum, Jenny’s suddenly one of the town’s biggest stars—and the center of a tabloid scandal connecting her with a pop star she’s barely even met. With paparazzi tracking her every move, Jenny flees to a remote mansion in Louisiana to write her next album. The only hiccup is the unexpected presence of a brooding young caretaker named Noah, whose foul mouth and snap judgments lead to constant bickering—and serious heat.

Noah really should tell Jenny that he’s Preston Noah Maxwell Walcott, the owner of the estate where the feisty country singer has made her spoiled self at home. But the charade gives Noah a much-needed break from his own troubles, and before long, their verbal sparring is indistinguishable from foreplay. But as sizzling nights give way to quiet pillow talk, Noah begins to realize that Jenny’s almost as complicated as he is. To fit into each other’s lives, they’ll need the courage to face their problems together—before the outside world catches up to them.

  • Goddess Born

    Goddess Born by Kari Edgren

Goddess Born by Karie Edgren is 99c! This is the first book in the Goddess Born series and seems to have an interesting premise. Some readers mentioned that the writing took a while to get used to, though others found the original plot really delivered in execution.

    Pennsylvania, 1730

Selah Kilbrid keeps a dangerous secret: she has the power to heal.

A direct descendent of the Celtic goddess Brigid, it’s Selah’s sacred duty to help those in need. But as the last of the Goddess Born living in the New World, she learned from an early age to keep her supernatural abilities hidden. The Quaker community of Hopewell has always been welcoming, but there’s no doubt they would see her hanged if her gift was revealed.

When a prominent minister threatens to try her with witchcraft unless she becomes his wife, Selah has only one hope–that her betrothed, a distant cousin from Ireland, arrives as planned. Marrying Samuel would keep her secret safe, preserve her sacred bloodline, and protect her from being charged as a witch.

But when news of Samuel’s death reaches the Colonies, Selah is truly on her own. Terrified, she faces an impossible choice–forfeit her powers and marry the loathsome Nathan? Or find an imposter to pose as her husband and preserve her birthright?

  • The Best Kind of Trouble

The Best Kind of Trouble by Lauren Dane

The Best Kind of Trouble by Lauren Dane is $1.99. This is book 1 of the Hurley Brothers series, and is about a former rock star and a librarian in a small town who once upon a time had a serious fling with him – which she’d prefer he didn’t bring up. (That never works out the way they want, right?) This book has a 3.8-star average.

She has complete control…and he’s determined to take it away

A librarian in the small town of Hood River, Natalie Clayton’s world is very nearly perfect. After a turbulent childhood and her once-wild ways, life is now under control. But trouble has a way of turning up unexpectedly—especially in the tall, charismatically sexy form of Paddy Hurley….

And Paddy is the kind of trouble that Natalie has a taste for.

Even after years of the rock-and-roll lifestyle, Paddy never forgot the two wickedly hot weeks he once shared with Natalie. Now he wants more…even if it means tempting Natalie and her iron-grip control. But there’s a fine line between well-behaved and misbehaved—and the only compromise is between the sheets!

  • Cast in Shadow

Cast in Shadow by Michelle Sagara

Cast in Shadow by Michelle Sagara is $1.99! We featured this book previously and there were so many comments on the post about this book. Plus, a reader tweeted at us about this one:

Fantastic prickly heroine who grows and changes over time, really intriguing worldbuilding…

Seven years ago Kaylin fled the crime-riddled streets of Nightshade, knowing that something was after her. Children were being murdered—and all had the same odd markings that mysteriously appeared on her own skin.…

Since then, she’s learned to read, she’s learned to fight and she’s become one of the vaunted Hawks who patrol and police the City of Elantra. Alongside the winged Aerians and the immortal Barrani, she’s made a place for herself, far from the mean streets of her birth.

But children are once again dying, and a dark and familiar pattern is emerging. Kaylin is ordered back into Nightshade with a partner she knows she can’t trust, a Dragon lord for a companion and a device to contain her powers—powers that no other human has. Her task is simple—find the killer, stop the murders…and survive the attentions of those who claim to be her allies!

  1. Jcp says:

Love in a Snowstorm by Zoe York is free.

  2. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Jcp: I love Zoe York and highly recommend LOVE IN A SNOWSTORM. However, I do think the books in the Pine Harbour series work best if they are read in order because characters do recur.

  3. Michelle says:

I one-starred Good Girl. Hero wasn’t rude or grumpy so much as verbally abusive.

  4. Emily says:

I agree with Michelle about Good Girl. I read Blurred Lines, another book in the same series, and really enjoyed it, so I bought Good Girl to read next…and barely finished it. It’s been a long time since I read it, but I remember loving the premise, but the romance didn’t click and the hero came across as unnecessarily mean.

  5. Annie Kate says:

I haven’t read Good Girl or anything so maybe I’m totally off base, but just from that description, the idea of a guy rich enough to own a whole-ass estate calling anyone else “spoiled” is making me laugh. “Spoiled” is one of those terms that always puts me on guard when a man applies it to a woman, just like “crazy” or “bossy”.

  6. Arijo says:

For Canadians who are sad that Laura Kinsale books are never on sale, for once THE PRINCE OF MIDNIGHT is 1.99$ on Amazon CA.

Someone on SBTB recommended Megan O’Keefe VELOCITY WEAPON (a scifi novel, not sure there’s romance) a while ago. For those like me who noted it down, right now it’s 2.99$ on Amazon.

  7. Dancing Corgi says:

Agree with the Good Girl comments. Possibly spoilery: The male protagonist (won’t use the word hero)is hurtful and mean right up to the black moment. His background story is not enough to justify this behavior, IMO. In an effort to rectify things, he uses public humiliation to get rid of his ex-fiancé who, although a bitch, obviously has mental issues. Then he just puts on a tux to be forgiven and welcomed with open arms by our heroine. All through the book, she calls him on his bad behaviour and subsequent love bombing which I applauded but then just folds without holding him to account.

  8. Michael I says:

Silk is for Seduction by Loretta Chase (Dressmakers #1) is on sale for Kindle and Nook (I didn’t check any others) for 1.99.

  9. Susan/DC says:

I realize this is totally unfair to City of Shadows, but in the City of Elantra does everyone drive around in small Hyundais?

  10. Susan/DC says:

Correction: Meant unfair to “Cast in Shadow”, which actually sounds pretty good to me.

  11. Sydneysider says:

Thanks to @Michelle and @Emily for the heads up, I will be avoiding Good Girl. No asshole “heroes,” thanks.

  12. KristieJ says:

I have Blurred Lines in my TBR pile and actually moved it up quite a number of spots just last week. Sounds like Good Girl is a good one to pass on though. And alas, I did check out Silk is for Seduction but that must be an Amazon .com thing as it’s $9.99 here north of the border in Canada

  13. taffygrrl says:

“Terrified, she faces an impossible choice–forfeit her powers and marry the loathsome Nathan? Or find an imposter to pose as her husband and preserve her birthright?”

Haven’t read it but I’m guessing it’s the latter!
