  • Bonds of Courage

Bonds of Courage by Lynda Aicher

Bonds of Courage by Lynda Aicher is $1.99! This is an erotic romance with a hockey player hero and dominatrix heroine, and hello catnip! I’m always on the search for more Dommes in romance and I’m very curious about this one. Have you read it?

Pro hockey player Holden Hauke has kept his sexual needs buried for years. After a near miss over a picture of him bound to a spanking bench resulted in a mid-season trade, he’s kept his image clean. But with the season over, he’s ready to surrender control. And he’s found just the woman to help him—if only he can convince her to give him a chance.

Bending men to her will is nothing new for Vanessa Delcour, aka Mistress V—she’s a full-time rep for pro athletes, a part-time owner of exclusive sex club The Den, and an experienced Domme. But when Holden Hauke comes looking for a discreet partner, Vanessa’s concerned about his motives. Touching his training-toned body during a scene wouldn’t exactly be a hardship, but taking him on crosses barriers between work and play that she’s had in place for years.

From their first intense encounter in Mistress V’s playroom, Hauke knows he can’t let this chance slip away; he’s found the woman he’s always needed. Submissive or not, he’s willing to push her every limit to prove how good they can be together.

    Virgin River by Robyn Carr

Virgin River by Robyn Carr is $1.99! This is the in the Virgin River series, and features a mystery baby and a military hero. It’s also been made into a Netflix show. Have you watched? This series has been mentioned a couple times on the site, especially if you like small town romances.

Wanted: Midwife/nurse practitioner in Virgin River, population six hundred. Make a difference against a backdrop of towering California redwoods and crystal-clear rivers. Rent-free cabin included.

When the recently widowed Melinda Monroe sees this ad, she quickly decides that the remote mountain town of Virgin River might be the perfect place to escape her heartache, and to reenergize the nursing career she loves. But her high hopes are dashed within an hour of arriving: the cabin is a dump, the roads are treacherous and the local doctor wants nothing to do with her. Realizing she’s made a huge mistake, Mel decides to leave town the following morning.

But a tiny baby, abandoned on a front porch, changes her plans… and former marine Jack Sheridan cements them into place.

Melinda Monroe may have come to Virgin River looking for escape, but instead she finds her home.

  • A Duchess in Name

A Duchess in Name by Amanda Weaver

RECOMMENDED: A Duchess in Name by Amanda Weaver is $1.99! Redheadedgirl reviewed the book and gave it a B+:

This book involves a massive renovation, a HERO that was won in a card game, awkwardness, and learning to love each other despite a most inauspicious beginning. Throw in some terrible parenting, and we got ourselves what could totally be a miniseries jointly produced by ITV and HGTV.

Victoria Carson never expected love. An American heiress and graduate of Lady Grantham’s finishing school, she’s been groomed since birth to marry an English title—the grander the better. So when the man chosen for her, the forbidding Earl of Dunnley, seems to hate her on sight, she understands that it can’t matter. Love can have no place in this arrangement.

Andrew Hargrave has little use for his title and even less for his cold, disinterested parents. Determined to make his own way, he’s devoted to his life in Italy working as an archaeologist. Until the collapse of his family’s fortune drags him back to England to a marriage he never wanted and a woman he doesn’t care to know.

Wild attraction is an unwanted complication for them both, though it forms the most fragile of bonds. Their marriage of convenience isn’t so intolerable after all—but it may not be enough when the deception that bound them is finally revealed.

  • The Duke’s Disaster

The Duke’s Disaster by Grace Burrowes

The Duke’s Disaster by Grace Burrowes is $1.99! Readers loved the marriage of convenience element of the plot, though some didn’t like the main characters: the hero was a jerk and the heroine needed a backbone. According to Goodreads and Amazon info, this is the prequel to the True Gentleman series, but is a full-length romance.

Noah Winters, Duke of Anselm, exercises the pragmatism for which he’s infamous when his preferred choice of bride cries off, and her companion, Lady Thea Collins, becomes his next choice for his duchess. Lady Thea’s mature, sensible and even rather attractive-what could possibly go wrong?

As a lady fallen on hard times, Thea doesn’t expect tender sentiments from His Grace, but she does wish Noah had courted her trust, lest her past turn their hastily arranged marriage into a life of shared regrets. Is His Grace courting a convenient wife, or a beautiful disaster?

  1. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I see that KDD is taking a trip down “erotic awakening memory lane” for women who were in their teens and early twenties in the 1970s. Yesterday, it was THE STORY OF O, today it’s Anais Nin’s LITLE BIRDS that is a $1.99 KDD. LITTLE BIRDS consists of 13 short stories, all of them erotic in nature. Nin’s writing was eye-opening to my teenage self back in the Disco days, and I think it would still hold up well today.

  2. Darlynne says:

” … but taking him on crosses … ” I had to read this a couple of times, thinking, like the spanking bench, this might be an aspect I hadn’t considered before. Fully awake now.

  3. Sarah Peach says:

I LOVED A Duchess in Name. There’s a lot of emotional angst which is very much my jam. The hero basically abandons the heroine at his country estate in the beginning, but she makes the best of the situation and rightfully PISSED when he shows back up. I adored this book, but ymmv.

  4. Teev says:

@DDD: presumably next up will be A. N. Roquelaure’s Sleeping Beauty books!

Also The Duke’s Disaster is awful. Usually Burrowe’s heroes are pretty nice, good at hugs, good at support kind of guys but the “hero” of this one was a total asshole. The disaster is that he married a woman who he finds out isn’t a virgin. He is a complete sh*t about how, before their super speedy wedding that he barreled everyone into, she neglected to tell him about how she was raped and therefore not a virgin! There’s no grovel you can give me to make up for that.

  5. Taylor says:

@Teev, thanks for the heads up. That’s a dealbreaker, and I’m disappointed to see it in Burrowe’s (although I’ve mostly read her later stuff).

  6. Laura says:

A Dutchess in Name ticks off 90% of my “boxes” the only things missing are a house party and “anonymous” sex at a masked ball.

  7. Noseinabook says:

For fans of Jennifer Ashley’s Victorian cook Kat Holloway: I noticed that “Past Crimes” is free on Kobo right now under her pen name Ashley Gardner. This collection includes “A Soupcon of Poison”, the first Kat Holloway mystery. Don’t read it while hungry (for food or charming mysterious men).

  8. Annie Kate says:

@Teev I’m so mad to learn there are MULTIPLE books published this century out there with that exact plot (I read another one, and if it hadn’t been an ebook, it would have been launched across the room). Like, what the hell? More than one author tried this bullshit?

  9. ciem says:

@Teev Well, to be fair, he hadn’t known she was raped till the end, but yes to everything you said! He shouldn’t have been annoyed at finding out she was a virgin. So much of the book isn’t particularly good, and he’s annoyingly jaunty the way Burrowes’s men are.

  10. flchen1 says:

I haven’t read that title by Lynda Aicher yet, but I will grab it now. I think she’s excellent, and is a writer who should be getting read far more than she seems to be!
