HaBO: Veterans Renovate an Old Mansion

This HaBO is from Erica, who is hoping to find this series:

I’ve been trying to find this series for four years with no luck!

It’s about the renovation of a large mansion into some sort of inn. The construction guy, who was doing the remodel, was a veteran. He had a (rich?) veteran friend, whose dad was in politics and wanted him to also go into politics (I’m bleeding into the second book). The veteran friend had a missing limb from a war injury and ended up partnering with some sort of organization to help out other veterans.

I believe this also took place on a bay on the East Coast….the cover was a mansion on the bay (no people from what I remember).

Now that I’m typing this out, this doesn’t seem like a lot to go on, but any help is appreciated!

Can we help Erica finally locate this one?

  1. Aurelia says:

Parts of the description sound like Half Moon Hill by Toni Blake (one of the books from her Destiny series). There’s a biker (who may also have been a vet, I don’t quite remember) who’s been severely injured and takes a job turning a mansion into a B&B. It’s been years since I read it, though, so I don’t remember more details.

  2. Rebecca says:

Wondering if this is the hometown heroes series by Allie boniface. First book is beacon of love.

  3. Ella says:

Sounds like it could be the Walkers Ford series by Anne Calhoun?

  4. Diane says:

Running Scarred (Scarred Series) by Jackie Williams.

This is about a wounded British/UK soldier who owns some land surrounded by a chateau who has just been bought by a woman with plans to make it into a hotel for injured veterans because her brother was wounded in Afghanistan.

  5. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Not the book being requested, but if it sounds like your catnip, Serena Bell’s Returning Home series consists of four books featuring veterans adjusting to civilian life and attending (later working at) a rehab complex/retreat. The first book, HOLD ON TIGHT, has a veteran hero who lost a leg while on active duty. I recommend the entire series.

Hi Ladies, I’m the requester…and none of these are it so far. I’m wracking my brain for more details, but appreciate the contributions so far!

  7. Maureen says:

I’ll second @DiscoDollyDeb on Bell’s Returning Home series, I really enjoyed it. I probably got the recommendation from one of her comments 🙂

  8. Kit says:

Not a guess on the HABO but I’m slightly annoyed that there used to be a ‘solved!’ put on a post whether the book was correctly guessed but that’s been stopped. Please bring it back so I’ll know which books to look out for or avoid in some cases.

There’s a trilogy by Nora Roberts about the inn at something-boro?

  10. Jill-Marie says:

@Carol, that’s the Inn Boonsboro Trilogy — the inn in the title is owned and run by Roberts and her husband — but there wasn’t an injured veteran that I recall (although it’s been years since I read the series. It was quite good).

I may just need to revisit these three.
