  • The Chocolate Touch

The Chocolate Touch by Laura Florand

RECOMMENDEDThe Chocolate Touch by Laura Florand is $2.99! This contemporary romance was a Sizzling Book Club pick in September 2013. For many, Florand is an auto-buy author and the descriptions of chocolate were downright dangerous. A few readers felt that some scenes dialed up the angst too high, but the book maintains a 4-star rating on GoodReads.

    La Vie en Chocolat

Dominique Richard’s reputation says it all–wild past, wilder flavors, black leather and smoldering heat. Jaime Corey is hardly the first woman to be drawn to all that dark, delicious danger. Sitting in Dom’s opulent chocolaterie in Paris day after day, she lets his decadent creations restore her weary body and spirit, understanding that the man himself is entirely beyond her grasp.

Until he touches her. . .

Chocolate, Dominique understands–from the biting tang of lime-caramel to the most complex infusions of jasmine, lemon-thyme, and cayenne. But this shy, freckled American who sits alone in his salon, quietly sampling his exquisite confections as if she can’t get enough of them–enough of him–is something else. She has secrets too, he can tell. Of course if she really knew him, she would run.

Yet once you have spotted your heart’s true craving, simply looking is no longer enough. . .

  • The Rock

    The Rock by Monica McCarty

The Rock by Monica McCarty is $1.99 at Amazon! This is book eleven in the Highland Guard series and was one of Elyse’s picks on a previous Hide Your Wallet. Readers loved the writing, but seemed to feel that the main conflict was resolved a little easily. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

New York Times bestselling author Monica McCarty continues her Highland Guard series in this eleventh steamy historical romance set against the sweeping backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.

The first time he caught sight of Elizabeth Douglas, Thomas MacGowan thought she was a princess. To the son of the castle blacksmith, the daughter of the powerful Lord of Douglas might as well be. When it becomes clear that his childhood companion will never see him as a man she could love, Thom joins Edward Bruce’s army as a man-at-arms to try to change his lot. If he’s harbored a secret hope that he could close the gap between them, he faces the cold, hard truth when Elizabeth comes to him for help. She might need the boy who used to climb cliffs to rescue her brother from the hands of the English, but she would never see the son of a smith as a man worthy of her hand.

  • Since the Surrender

Since the Surrender by Julie Anne Long

Since the Surrender by Julie Anne Long is $2.99! This is the third book in the Pennyroyal Green series. There is a second chance-adjacent romance; the heroine used to have a huge crush on the hero, but NO MORE! Are you a fan of the series? Do you have a favorite book?

    A man of action. . .

Fearless. Loyal. Brilliant. Ruthless. Bold words are always used to describe English war hero Captain Chase Eversea, but another word unfortunately plays a role in every Eversea’s destiny: trouble. And trouble for Chase arrives in the form of a mysterious message summoning him to a London rendezvous . . . where he encounters the memory of his most wicked indiscretion in the flesh: Rosalind March—the only woman he could never forget.

    A Woman of Passion. . .

Five years ago, the reckless, charming beauty craved the formidable Captain’s attention. But now Rosalind is a coolly self-possessed woman, and desire is the last thing on her mind: her sister has mysteriously disappeared and she needs Chase’s help to find her. But as their search through London’s darkest corners re-ignites long-smoldering passion and memories of old battles, Chase and Rosalind are challenged to surrender: to the depths of a wicked desire, and to the possibility of love.

  • I Wanna Be Where You Are

I Wanna Be Where You Are by Kristina Forest

I Wanna Be Where You Are by Kristina Forest is $2.99! This is a YA contemporary romance with a road trip element. It sounds all sorts of cute and look at that adorable, joyful cover. Forest’s latest release, Now That I’ve Found You, was featured on a recent Hide Your Wallet.

When Chloe Pierce’s mom forbids her to apply for a spot at the dance conservatory of her dreams, she devises a secret plan to drive two hundred miles to the nearest audition. But Chloe hits her first speed bump when her annoying neighbor Eli insists upon hitching a ride, threatening to tell Chloe’s mom if she leaves him and his smelly dog, Geezer, behind. So now Chloe’s chasing her ballet dreams down the east coast—two unwanted (but kinda cute) passengers in her car, butterflies in her stomach, and a really dope playlist on repeat.

Filled with roadside hijinks, heart-stirring romance, and a few broken rules, I Wanna Be Where You Are is a YA debut perfect for fans of Jenny Han and Sandhya Menon.

  1. Ren Benton says:

Contrary to every expectation, my favorite Pennyroyal Green is the least adventure-based of the five I read, LIKE NO OTHER LOVER, which takes place at a house party. I’m usually in the MOAR EXTERNAL PLOT camp, but I thought the romance in that one really benefited from lack of distractions.

  2. Kris Bock says:

Whispers in the Dark is $0.99. This is romantic suspense with no gore, on the sweet end of the range.

Whispers in the Dark: Archaeology student Kylie Hafford craves adventure when she heads to the remote Puebloan ruins of Lost Valley, Colorado, to excavate. Romance isn’t in her plans, but she soon meets two sexy men: Danesh looks like a warrior from the Pueblo’s ancient past, and Sean is a charming, playful tourist. The summer heats up as Kylie uncovers mysteries, secrets, and terrors in the dark. She’ll need all her strength and wits to survive—and to save the man she’s come to love.

Whispers in the Dark, romantic suspense set in the Four Corners region of the Southwest, will appeal to fans of Mary Stewart, Barbara Michaels, and Nora Roberts. This title stands alone and is not part of a series.

  3. Suze in NE says:

“The Chocolate Touch” is one of my all-time favorite romances, and Dominique Richard is, if not my #1 romance hero, certainly in my top 3! He is the contemporary hero I compare all others to. Semi-alpha, but not with anyone he cares about…he’s really more of a “bad-boy grouchy bear with a gooey center” hero, which I adore!

Speaking of angst, I don’t enjoy heavy angst in my romances, but FWIW, I thought the angst here was just right.

  4. Laura A Klein says:

@Ren agreed it’s the best of a series I have mixed feelings about. I read them all back-to-back once upon a beach vacation and enjoyed them then but recently listened to a podcast about the series and had almost forgotten I read them.

  5. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Rachel Van Dyken’s FINDING HIM—one of my favorite reads of 2020—is a $1.99 Kindle Daily Deal today. It’s a beautifully-written book about recovering from grief and loss. The heroine is writing a book about her late fiancé, who died of cancer. She meets the hero when a reservations mix-up has them sharing the same mountain cabin. Then a snowstorm rolls in. Can you say enforced proximity? One of the things Van Dyken does so well is make the late fiancé come alive as a character as we read parts of the book the heroine is writing. Highly recommended—with the caveat that you really have to read the first book of the duet, STEALING HER, to get the full arc of the hero’s character (he’s in a coma for much of the first book). Alas, STEALING HER is not a KDD, but both books are available on KU.

  6. Lisa F says:

I’ve read all of these but The Rock, and all of them are excellent.

  7. chacha1 says:

Ooh yummy, I was just thinking it had been a long time since I read Florand, and I didn’t already have that one!

  8. LML says:

@ D3, I read both last week and am in complete agreement with your comment. Finding Him managed all that you wrote without being maudlin.

  9. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@LML: I read quite a few romances that feature widows (“man falls for late brother’s/last best friend’s widow” is one of my catnips), but I don’t think I’ve read a romance that did a better job of making a late partner such a real part of the heroine’s journey to love again than FINDING HIM. Van Dyken did a fantastic job there.
