  • For the Duke’s Eyes Only

For the Duke’s Eyes Only by Lenora Bell

For the Duke’s Eyes Only by Lenora Bell is $3.99! This historical romance has an archaeologist heroine and a childhood friends to enemies to lovers romance. Carrie read this one and ultimately wanted more nerdery. Have you read this one? It appears that a few of Bell’s other historical romances are also $3.99.

If adventure has a name…it must be Lady India Rochester. The intrepid archaeologist possesses a sharp blade and an even sharper knack for uncovering history’s forgotten women. Unfortunately, she has one annoying weakness: the dangerously handsome Duke of Ravenwood. Former best friend. Current enemy. And the man who dared to break her heart.

Daniel Bonds, the Duke of Ravenwood, is a thrill-seeking antiquities hunter who only plays by one rule: Never fall in love. He’s in it for the fortune and glory. At least that’s what he wants the world to think. He’s sworn to hide his tangled web of secrets, especially from the one woman he cares about and will protect at any cost.

But when a priceless relic is stolen from the British Museum, the rivals must align forces. Racing to recover the stolen antiquity and avert an international disaster? All in a day’s work. Avoiding their buried feelings? More and more impossible. For love is about to become the greatest treasure of all.

    The grand adventure begins…now!

  • Magic Bites

    Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews

RECOMMENDED: Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews is $2.99 at most vendors! This is book one in the Kate Daniels series, and I remember reading it and hiding so no one would make me stop reading. This book has a 4-star average at Goodreads and is much loved.

Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren’t for magic…

One moment magic dominates, and cars stall and guns fail. The next, technology takes over and the defensive spells no longer protect your house from monsters. Here skyscrapers topple under onslaught of magic; werebears and werehyenas prowl through the ruined streets; and the Masters of the Dead, necromancers driven by their thirst of knowledge and wealth, pilot blood-crazed vampires with their minds.

In this world lives Kate Daniels. Kate likes her sword a little too much and has a hard time controlling her mouth. The magic in her blood makes her a target, and she spent most of her life hiding in plain sight. But when Kate’s guardian is murdered, she must choose to do nothing and remain safe or to pursue his preternatural killer. Hiding is easy, but the right choice is rarely easy…

  • The Other Bennet Sister

The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow

The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow is $2.99! Elyse read this one and gave it a B-:

I think fans of Pride and Prejudice will enjoy this novel, although it may not be very enjoyable for anyone who hasn’t read the original as we are expected to know this characters.

Mary, the bookish ugly duckling of Pride and Prejudice’s five Bennet sisters, emerges from the shadows and transforms into a desired woman with choices of her own.

What if Mary Bennet’s life took a different path from that laid out for her in Pride and Prejudice? What if the frustrated intellectual of the Bennet family, the marginalized middle daughter, the plain girl who takes refuge in her books, eventually found the fulfillment enjoyed by her prettier, more confident sisters? This is the plot of Janice Hadlow’s The Other Bennet Sister, a debut novel with exactly the affection and authority to satisfy Jane Austen fans.

Ultimately, Mary’s journey is like that taken by every Austen heroine. She learns that she can only expect joy when she has accepted who she really is. She must throw off the false expectations and wrong ideas that have combined to obscure her true nature and prevented her from what makes her happy. Only when she undergoes this evolution does she have a chance at finding fulfillment; only then does she have the clarity to recognize her partner when he presents himself—and only at that moment is she genuinely worthy of love.

Mary’s destiny diverges from that of her sisters. It does not involve broad acres or landed gentry. But it does include a man; and, as in all Austen novels, Mary must decide whether he is the truly the one for her. In The Other Bennet Sister, Mary is a fully rounded character—complex, conflicted, and often uncertain; but also vulnerable, supremely sympathetic, and ultimately the protagonist of an uncommonly satisfying debut novel.

  • Crazy Cupid Love

Crazy Cupid Love by Amanda Heger

Crazy Cupid Love by Amanda Heger is $1.99! I picked this one up because I’m a sucker for mythology elements. My final review landed on a B-, because it was just too twee and fluffy for me. However, if that’s typically your baseline for reading, it might work better for you!

Have you fallen deeply in love,
But get nervous approaching your dove?
    Don’t be stupid;
    Hire a cupid!
‘Cause sometimes love needs a shove.

Eliza Herman (a.k.a. The World’s Worst Cupid) has spent her entire life carefully avoiding her calling as a Descendant of Eros. After all, happily-ever-afters are nothing but a myth. But when a family crisis requires her to fill in at the local Cupid-for-hire shop, Eliza finds herself enchanting couples under the watchful eye of her assigned mentor, Jake Sanders…the one man she could never get out of her head.

Before long, Eliza is rethinking her stance on romance—until things start going terribly wrong with her enchantments. Now Eliza and Jake must fight to unravel a conspiracy that could destroy thousands of relationships, including their own…and spell the end of Love itself.

    No pressure, right?

  1. Jacqueline says:

For a moment I conflated The Other Bennet Sister with Elna Holst’s Lucas. I got very excited at the prospect of reading a revisionist Austen novel teeming with bonkers lesbian sex scenes on the cheap. Womp womp.

  2. Lisa F says:

I ADORE Crazy Cupid Love! It was my favorite book of the year several years ago!

  3. Jessi says:

I devoured the Kate Daniels series (and a few of the related short stories – still tracking some of them down) during the first 2 months of quarantine. I highly recommend them!

  4. Allison R-B says:

Whoa Nellie! Calling all cowgirls: A Cowboy to Remember by Rebekah Weatherspoon is $1.99! Happy Saturday…

  5. wingednike says:

I love Ilona Andrews and all their stories but that first Kate book was not as awesome as the subsequent books. It should still be read because events there truly do have impact on the rest of the series.

  6. Jazzlet says:

In case Ilona Andrews fans have missed it there is going to be/is part of a story about Julie all grown up. They started posting it on their website where the first eleven chapters can be found, for reasons they are not posting the rest there, but the whole book will be published early next year. It is better than any of you who aren’t fond of Julie would imagine.

Magic Bites was the first book they published, and although it is good they have definitely increased their writing skills since then!
