Tourist Season by Brynne Weaver is $1.99! This is book one in a new series. It came out last year and I mentioned it on Hide Your Wallet. I do love Weaver’s blend of dark humor and romance, but often find the pacing to be a bit lopsided in her romances. What do you think?
All in all, this book was a fun romp. There were some truly wild moments of alien biology I won’t spoil, but they were more amusing than horrific. Roland and Vanessa’s tension and chemistry was truly delicious. Their physical relationship was a bit of a slow burn but well worth the wait.
The biggest thing you need to know about Witch King is that it is very different from Murderbot. If you are hoping for a fantasy version of Murderbot you will be disappointed. The tone is different, the humor, when it exists, is dryer, the scope is different, and the violence is dialed waaayyy up. However, on its own merits, Witch King is a complex, interesting fantasy novel that keeps two timelines moving and introduces a group of allies who gel into a found family.
Smart Bitches started as a review blog, and we are still going. We’ve published more than three thousand reviews since 2005, and we wanted to share some of our favorites. Choosing only a few has been really challenging, because we all have many favorites. We wanted to talk about reviews we were proud of and that we thought were memorable. I asked Amanda what reviews she thought I should include and she rattled off, like, … Continue reading Twenty Years of Smart Bitches Reviews→
A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher is $1.99! This is listed as a Kindle Daily Deal so snap it up while you can. This came out in August and we’re big fans of her books!
Happy weekend, everyone! We have reached September! Here’s what we’re reading lately: … Lara: I’m bravely continuing my hunt for new release vampire romance novels. So far all the ones I’ve tried have been really disappointing. I’m currently trying Fang Fiction by Kate Stayman-London, but it’s too early to tell if I’m onto a winner or not. Sarah: What are you looking for re: vampires? Lara: This is probably embarrassing to admit but I’m looking … Continue reading Whatcha Reading? September 2024, Part One→

Everything about When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare worked for me. Everything. Bust out the squee mop, y’all because this review is just going to be a flappy-hands Good Book Noise® mess.
Things this book has:
1. A sexy Scot hero I pictured as Sam Heughan. 2. A heroine who is a naturalist and illustrator. 3. Tons of UST. 4. A completely crazy sauce plot that Dare pulls off flawlessly. 5. A missing lobster.
Blood Heir by Ilona Andrews is $1.49! This is a spin-off of Andrews’ Kate Daniels series with the main character being Kate and Curran’s ward. Obviously this will be a more nuanced read if you’ve finished or are familiar with the prior series. I dropped off that train around book three.
