  • Silent in the Grave

Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn

RECOMMENDED: Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn is $1.99! This book and series has been mentioned quite a bit on the site. Elyse recommended it if you like historical mysteries. Reader StacieH4 mentioned it for those who prefer their romance light on sex, and Reader Tina Chaney said on a podcast that the book has one of her favorite opening lines. Have you read it?

“Let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.”

These ominous words, slashed from the pages of a book of Psalms, are the last threat that the darling of London society, Sir Edward Grey, receives from his killer. Before he can show them to Nicholas Brisbane, the private inquiry agent he has retained for his protection, Sir Edward collapses and dies at his London home, in the presence of his wife, Julia, and a roomful of dinner guests.

Prepared to accept that Edward’s death was due to a long-standing physical infirmity, Julia is outraged when Brisbane visits and suggests that Sir Edward has been murdered. It is a reaction she comes to regret when she discovers the damning paper for herself, and realizes the truth.

Determined to bring her husband’s murderer to justice, Julia engages the enigmatic Brisbane to help her investigate Edward’s demise. Dismissing his warnings that the investigation will be difficult, if not impossible, Julia presses forward, following a trail of clues that lead her to even more unpleasant truths, and ever closer to a killer who waits expectantly for her arrival.

  • Hidden Impact

    Hidden Impact by Piper Drake

RECOMMENDED: Hidden Impact by Piper J. Drake is $1.99! Not only should you check out Elyse’s previous review, but here’s what she had to say:

The first book in the Safeguard series is everything I like in romantic suspense–over-the-top heroes, international espionage, things blowing up, but no real threat of violence (physical or sexual) to the main characters. It’s popcorn action movie suspense, lots of fun but no real darkness. Plus the heroine is a chef and OMG this book will make you hungry.

    He’s not the hero she’s looking for…

As part of the elite Centurion Corporation team, military-veteran-turned-mercenary Gabriel Diaz is a natural defender. He’ll do anything to ensure a mission is successful. Anything but get emotionally invested—he learned the hard way that can be deadly. Easy bodyguard jobs in between the more challenging missions are all he’s interested in now.

Maylin Cheng is desperate and running out of time. Her younger sister has gone missing but no one seems to take her concern seriously. Her last hope lies in asking an aloof bodyguard for help. He dismisses her outright, but all that changes when she is almost killed in a not-so-accidental hit-and-run right before his eyes.

As Maylin leans on Gabriel, she begins to rely on him for more than just her safety. But as their attraction grows, so does the danger surrounding them. When the elaborate web they’re trapped in unravels, Gabriel will do anything to protect them. Even if that means putting his heart in the crosshairs.

  • Friction

    Friction by Sawyer Bennett

Friction by Sawyer Bennett is $1.99! This is a hot contemporary romance between two lawyers, who are on opposite sides of the courtroom. Readers loved the enemies to lovers aspect of the romance. However, the chief complaints were a fickle heroine and too much sex. It has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads.

At the powerhouse law firm of Knight & Payne, winning comes first and ethics a distant second. Leary Michaels uses her female charms to daze opponents, and it’s always worked well—until now. On her most personal case yet, she finds herself going up against a defense attorney just as skilled, shameless, and seductive as she is.

Reeve Holloway has never met a woman as sure of her own sexuality, or as ruthless in wielding it, as Leary is. But he won’t be toyed with. What Leary starts, he’ll finish—in the courtroom, the bedroom, or any-damn-place he wants. The sex is uninhibited, electrifying, and absolutely against the rules. Reeve’s job is to ruin Leary’s case…even if it destroys her in the process and costs him the woman he’s come to love.

  • Sleepless in Manhattan

Sleepless in Manhattan by Sarah Morgan

Sleepless in Manhattan by Sarah Morgan is $1.99! This is the first book in a new series and readers loved how fun it was and note there’s some pretty great female friendships. However, others mention slow pacing and the lackluster chemistry between the hero and heroine.

USA TODAY bestselling author Sarah Morgan introduces a sizzling new trilogy about three best friends embracing life—and love—in Manhattan

Cool, calm and competent, events planner Paige Walker loves a challenge. After a childhood spent in and out of hospitals, she’s now determined to prove herself—and where better to take the world by storm than in the exhilarating bustle of Manhattan? But when Paige is let go from the job she loves, she must face her biggest challenge of all—going it alone.

Except launching her own events company is nothing compared to hiding her outrageous crush on Jake Romano—her brother’s best friend, New York’s most in-demand date, and the only man to break her heart. When Jake offers Paige’s fledgling company a big chance, their still-sizzling chemistry starts giving her sleepless nights. But can she convince the man who trusts no one to take a chance on forever?

Yay, I’ve had Silent in the Grave on my list for a long while and it’s 99p in the UK too!

  2. cleo says:

Shatterproof by Xen (aka Cole McCade) has been expanded and rereleased and is on sale for $2.99 until Wednesday. Looks like it’s Amazon only. MM PNR. I haven’t read it – it came to my attention because of the Riptide mess. FWIW, I’ve read one mm PNR by this author – it was well written but a little dark for my taste.

Regarding Hidden Impact: Is that a meringue in the background? My Mom used to make meringues with stiff peaks and they’d scorch a little. Looked just like that. Best meringue evah!

  4. Ruth says:

I liked Friction, and I wouldn’t describe the heroine as “fickle” — she has a “friend with benefits” who becomes a “friend without benefits” when she gets involved with the hero. Too much sex? Ah, there’s a lot of sex. But it’s not a case of the only character development being their sexual chemistry. In fact, one of the things that’s quite clear is that both the hero and the heroine have other good options for sex that would be a lot easier if that’s all there was.

  5. Ranwin says:

I started reading “Hidden impact” a while ago, but just couldn’t get into it. The main characters are okay, but I didn’t really feel the romance between them. And the rest of the plot is a bit farfetched and “meh”.
Sarah Morgan I love! I absolutely recommend “Sleepless in Manhattan”. Morgans best books in my opinion are the trilogy about the O’Neill-brothers.

Historical mysteries is a new genre to me, but “Silent in the grave” looks really interesting. Will check it out.
