I remember so many details about this book; it’s driving me crazy, especially as a librarian, that I can’t find it.
It’s a contemporary set in Alaska. The hero is sent there by his brother (who I think works for a private security firm) to stay with a reclusive woman. I think she’s a veteran and knows the brother. She’s inventive about how she lives off the land, collects water, and only goes into town as necessary. I think she has PTSD. She’s also been writing a memoir or a piece of fiction based on her life.

The Longest Night by Kara Braden sounds close, but is set in a remote part of Canada. The heroine has PTSD and is living on her own with limited human contact.
