It’s low on relationship conflict and high on family conflict. I really liked the found family aspects. And the food.

Readers loved the heroine, but found some of the couple’s problems seemed to be solved by the hero’s magic wang. And if you enjoy Wine’s books, a couple of her Highlander romances in the Sutherlands series are on sale.

If you need some tattooed, axe-wielding, warrior heroes in your life, then pick up The King’s Executioner, but if you’re a stickler for historical detail, maybe steer clear.
The King of the Pict has entered into an agreement with Cathbad, Overlord of the Western Region to wed his daughter Anin. Blyth, Anin’s mother, has given her husband four fine sons and King Talon hopes Anin will do the same for him. Unfortunately, Anin’s mother wants no part of the agreement. X Marks the Scot by Victoria Roberts is $1.99! This has an enemies to lovers element and the hero is tasked with escorting the heroine. Some readers wanted more tension given the whole “enemies” vibe. However, others loved the feisty heroine. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.
He was a Highland Rogue Wicked with a Bow and Just as Wicked with the Ladies.

I have to say, I really like that cover for A Sword for his Lady. The heroine’s expression, forward facing position, the sword, the hero positioned behind her with his shirt falling off… it’s cool.
I love Lauren Dane but decided that I could not get over the fact that the heroine’s first name was “Maybe”. I even went as far as checking the social security name list and no one has ever had that as a first name as far as I can tell. So instead of being irritated by that ridiculous name through the entire book I am just skipping it.
Never read Dave’s sci-fi Federation series for the same reason – absolutely horrible names.
@DiaveV, I agree, it’s a non-starter of a name, nonetheless it is Lauren Dane, so I bought it A WEEK AGO!! In paperback, but at Target, so 15% off. Still, timing is everything.
I was a interested in The King’s Executioner because:

made it sound like the MOM was going to get the man, but now I’m kind of meh, because the fact that he finds out where she is makes me think he did not nice things to the mom.
Maybe is 100% Arrested Development to me. It just feels wrong for another character to have that name, but I’d probably be ok with it as a nickname for May Beatrice or something.
Maybe was an admittedly annoying nickname, but if I had her given name, I’d probably call myself Maybe, too. I initially thought I’d get annoyed by the name thing, but honestly didn’t notice it after a while because she was a really cool character.
And also… Alexsei was awesome. YUM.
I enjoyed Whiskey Sharp: Unravelled, but will freely admit that the heroine’s name was a HUGE distraction for me. I would have enjoyed it so much more if Dane had used a different name. The premise of the name was cute, but the execution was irritating,
The phrase “he’s not afraid to ride the blade’s edge to bind her to him” makes me weirdly uncomfortable. Ow!
I did not even parse that the heroine’s name was Maybe when reading the beginning of the synopsis. I thought her name was Dolan – “Maybe Dolan has lived independent…”
@Shiera – exactly!! I had that problem as well, I kept reading it as a qualifier and not her name in random places. Still love Lauren Dane and am absolutely waiting for the next one, but that name just didn’t work for me.
@DianeV & @Shiera: exactly my reaction! Who tf names their child this? Is her little sister named Definitely? Or worse, Baby?
That’s even worse than one author calling her heroine Sardelle, which means anchovi in German – another book that I skipped because of weird naming.

The Arrested Development character’s name appears to be spelled “Maeby,” which, while kind of odd-looking, does not look identical to “maybe.” There are other possible spellings too! “Maby,” “Mayby,” Maybee,” “Maebey”… yeah, all of them are weird-looking but none of them would break the reader’s brain.
I once read a book where a supporting character was named “I,” supposedly short for “Ignatius,” iirc. It was SO OBNOXIOUS. I (me, not the character) managed to finish the book, but I (again, me) never got used to it, and still cannot for the life of me figure out either why an author would decide to do that or why her editor (Harlequin) let her. (To prove I’m not making this up: it was The Lottery Winner, by Emilie Rose.)

@DiaveV, I could not agree more. I can’t read a book with a heroine whose name is an adverb. Maybe the next book will be about her sister “Almost”!
