Take the Lead
PODCAST RECOMMENDED: Take the Lead by Alexis Daria is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance that takes place on a dancing competition TV show. There’s also a gruff hero! If those things haven’t convinced you yet, Sonali Dev also recommended it on a previous podcast episode.
From Alexis Daria, author of the critically acclaimed, international bestseller You Had Me at Hola, comes a fun, sexy romance set against a reality dance show.
Gina Morales wants to make it big. In her four seasons on The Dance Off, she’s never even made it to the finals. But her latest partner, the sexy star of an Alaskan wilderness show, could be her chance. Who knew the strong, silent, survivalist-type had moves like that? She thinks Stone Nielson is her ticket to win it all—until her producer makes it clear they’re being set up for a showmance.
Joining a celebrity dance competition is the last thing Stone wants. However, he’ll endure anything to help his family, even as he fears revealing their secrets. While the fast pace of Los Angeles makes him long for the peace and privacy of home, he can’t hide his growing attraction for his dance partner. Neither wants to fake a romance for the cameras, but the explosive chemistry that flares between them is undeniable.
As Stone and Gina heat up the dance floor, the tabloids catch on to their developing romance. With the spotlight threatening to ruin everything, will they choose fame and fortune, or let love take the lead?

Wallbanger
Wallbanger by Alice Clayton is $1.99 at Amazon! This is the first book in the Cocktail series and, if I’m not mistaken, the first two books follow the same couple and then the rest deviate to different couples each time. I’ve read this one in the series and I liked it, though it’s not my favorite by Clayton. I will warn you that while the book starts out very lighthearted and hilarious, it gets a little dramatic with the romance taking a bit of a backseat.
Caroline Reynolds has a fantastic new apartment in San Francisco, a Kitchen Aid mixer to die for, and no O (and we’re not talking Oprah here, folks). She has a flourishing design career, an office overlooking the bay, a killer zucchini bread recipe, and no O. She has Clive (the best cat ever), great friends, a great rack, and no O. Adding insult to O-less, she also has an oversexed neighbor with the loudest late-night wallbanging she’s ever heard. Every moan, spank, and—was that a meow?—punctuates the fact that not only is she losing sleep, she still has—yep, you guessed it—no O. Enter Simon Parker. When the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. Their late-night hallway encounter has…well…mixed results. Because with walls this thin, the tension’s gonna be thick. A delicious mix of silly and steamy, this is an irresistible tale of exasperation at first sight.

Recipe for Kisses
Recipe for Kisses by Michelle Major is 99c at Amazon! The heroine owns a toy shop, which I think is pretty neat. The hero is a chef who wants the heroine’s location to open up his own restaurant. There’s definitely lots of lust going on, if that is or isn’t your preferred element when it comes to a romance.
Chloe Daniels doesn’t need a man—after escaping a marriage gone bad, she guards her heart as closely as the details of her past. So when hot-tempered celebrity chef Ben “the Beast” Haddox storms into her struggling toy store, Chloe is determined not to be drawn in by his broad shoulders…or baby-blue eyes.
In his hometown, Ben’s culinary career is almost as famous as his bad-boy rep. He’s out to prove to naysayers he’s a success by opening a new restaurant—and the only thing standing in his way is Chloe’s store. But before he has a chance to convert her space into his signature eatery, she cooks up a plan to show him that her shop is worth saving.
As things start to sizzle between them, Chloe must figure out how to avoid getting burned. Can she trust herself to love again, or has she jumped out of the frying pan and into desire?

I know a lot of readers didn’t like Big Rock (it was meh for me), but the second book, Mister O, is worth the price of admission in the boxed set. I believe I own the fourth as well, but haven’t gotten around to reading it yet.
I couldn’t get into Wallbanger. The fact that it was once Twilight fan fic kept messing with my head and I couldn’t help but make comparisons.
@ Amazon today:
Bollywood and the Beast by Suleikha Snyder, $.99.
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, $2.99 (YA, usually $9.99)
Dim Sum Asylum by Rhys Ford, $2.99. (M/m urban fantasy. I understand that this is a longer version the short story – same title – that appeared in the “Charmed and Dangerous” anthology. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to this longer version)
@Gigi: I didn’t know about the fanfic and still struggled mightily with WALLBANGER. I disliked everything about it, particularly the MC. For some reason, every time she said, “Listen, mister,” I thought, “What are you, 13?” And let’s not even talk about the missing O. Tedious in the extreme.
Dissenting opinion here. I LOVED Wallbanger. I binge read all the Christina Lauren books I could get my grabby hands on after that and have never looked back.
I have to put my vote with DonnaMarie. I loved Wallbanger and enjoy Christina Lauren’s books. I don’t read fanfic nor knew there was a correlation.
Ok, put me in the column of those who enjoyed Wallbanger. However, I’m a bit confused. That book is written by Alice Clayton, how does that segue into Christina Lauren?
@ KitKat9000
Your right! Alice Clayton. I enjoy her books too. 🙂 (Wallbanger one of them). Put me in the column of “She who has been in a brain fog most of the time for the last 4 years.” I also enjoy Christina Loren’s books.
Wallbanger was ok, but not fabulous. But I liked it enough to read more of Alice Clayton’s books. Her books have definitely gotten better!
I’m in the Wallbanger was just okay group, but I will say that future books in that series are pretty good.
Oooooooooooh, Dim Sum Asylum *clickety click*
Thanks Peggy! I loved her Kai Gracen books.
I loved Wallbanger and still read it frequently because it makes me laugh every time. I’ve enjoyed all Alice Clayton’s books except her last one that came out I felt was pretty boring.
I loved Take the Lead! I am generally indifferent to/actively turned off by reality tv, but the setting worked really well for the plot (& motivations & conflict) & the characterization was great.
@KitKat9000
The confusion might stem From the Twilight fan fic aspect. Christina Lauren’s first book, the name escapes me right now, also began as a Twilight fan fic. Also the first Tara Sue Me book. Don’t ask me how I know this
Yay! TAKE THE LEAD! I’ve been dying to read this!
All I know about Wallbanger is the description above, but boy does it sound like a modern day version of Pillow Talk!
I hated Wallbanger – or at least the part of it I was able to finish. Didn’t know that it was fanfiction; that wasn’t the problem. Hated every single person. Hated the MCs, hated their friends, hated their bosses. Hated the poorly described random side characters without any lines. I think they were supposed to be quirky or charming or liberated or something, but really, mostly they were just awful.
HeartShip and HeartOn by Amy Jo Cousins are both on sale until the end of the day Friday, Feb 2nd. The sale prices were in honor of the release of HeartOn – m/m fluffy romance between two bi-curious men who decide to explore their bisexuality together while one is in town for 2 weeks – NSA. I thought the bi-rep was good and it had more emotions than I was expecting from the blurb.
Walk of Shame by Lauren Layne is $1.99. I loved this one. It was very light and cute plus it gave me a similar feeling to the one I got reading The Hating Game.
Bought all four of the Lauren Blakely individually and rated them all 4 and 5 stars on Goodreads – Funny, romantic, sexy. Book 4 Full Package was on my 2017 Favourites List. High recommend the Box Set.
