You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!
This HaBO is from Crystal and she wants to find this contemporary romance. Trigger warning for abuse:
I am trying to find the name of a book I read a few years ago. It was a modern day romance. It’s about a woman who is now working construction. She was severely beaten when she was a girl and ran away. She was saved/hired by her now boss. He taught her everything he knew about construction. There is a scene in the book where she and another crew member have a run off to see who can shingle a house faster.
I can’t remember much about the hero, but I believe he was from her past and thought she had been dead this whole time. I can’t seem to find it in the couple thousand books I have on my Kindle and Nook.
I feel like a roofing competition is pretty dangerous, don’t you?
I used to work construction.
I have no clue what it is, but I want this book.
I have never forgotten that Gennita Low was a roofer by day, but all her books appear to be spies and SEALs rather than competitive roofing.
This sounds potentially vaguely familiar….
This sounds potentially vaguely familiar…. I’ll investigate more…
I want to read this. I hope someone knows this one.
I want to read this…
Dylan’s Redemption by Jennifer Ryan
roofing is back-breaking work–my dad did it as a side job. props to any woman doing it.
I didn’t see anything about construction work in Dylan’s Redemption by Jennifer Ryan so I don’t think it’s that book.
If you read down in the user reviews on Goodreads for Dylan’s Redemption it does say the heroine owns her own construction company. So still a possibility!
“There is a scene in the book where she and another crew member have a run off to see who can shingle a house faster.”
I hope she won!
Would love to know the name of this book.
The original requester emailed me. It’s Dylan’s Redemption!
I wish this were mine, but the backstory just isn’t like that. I did write one in which the heroine was a construction project manager: ANGEL WITH A BACKHOE. The heroine was so easy to write, I felt guilty for not giving the thing away.
