2016 Smart Bitches Extrava-Hanukkah Giveaway, Part 3

graphic image of menorah with a book in front. It's probably supposed to be the torah or something but I'm pretending it's a romanceIt’s the third night of Hanukkah, and the Smart Bitches are giving away…

A whole bunch of knitting and booking and both from Elyse!

If you’ve enjoyed Elyse’s knitting patterns inspired by everything she sees with her eyeballs, pretty much, she’s got a prize package of warm and fuzzy and lovely things.

Ready?

Take it away, Elyse!

Elyse: For this prize pack we have…

Yarn! Lots of Yarn!

We’re giving away enough yarn to make two projects:  Ashburn by Melanie Berg, a garter stitch shawl that’s appropriate for advanced-beginner knitters and Bias “Before and After” Scarf by Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. This pattern is more suited for intermediate knitters.  We’re also including both patterns and the tools needed to complete them.

A copy of The Viscount and the Vixen and Four Weddings and a Sixpence along with four skeins of yarn against a silver backdrop

For the Ashburn shawl we have six skeins of Knit Picks Palette fingering weight yarn, two skeins each of Ash, Finnley Heather and Wonderland Heather (100% wool).

We also have a set of size six circular needles by Susan Bates so you can get right to knitting.

For the Bias “Before and After” Scarf we have two skeins of Schachenmayr Tahiti yarn in Bermuda colorway. This yarn is 99% cotton and it slowly changes color from aquamarine to green, making for a super cool scarf. We’ve also added size 7 bamboo straight needles and a size G Susan Bates crochet hook for your provisional cast-on.

But we’re not done!

We’re also including some lace-weight yarn that you can use to make a second, third or fourth Bias scarf, another Ashburn,  or a project of your choosing.

This is Knit Picks Alpaca Cloud (100% baby alpaca wool, 440 yards each) in the colors Catherine, Reed Heather, Raspberry Heather, and Elise (I know RIGHT).

And while you’re knitting, you might get thirsty.

Luckily we have two teas for you to enjoy from Fava Tea Company.

We had to pick up an ounce of an earl grey blend called Duke (of Earl) tea. DUKE TEA. It’s an earl grey blended with just a hint of clove.

We also have an ounce of Blueberry Roobios, a caffeine free, berry flavored tea perfect for afternoon or evening sipping.

The books How to Disappear, The Courtesan Duchess, Woman with a Secret, and teal, gray and charcoal gray yarn.

And of course we have books:

  • The Courtesan Duchess by Joanna Schupe ( A | BN | K | G | AB | Au )
  • Four Weddings and a Sixpence by Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Boyle, Laura Lee Guhrke, and Stephanie Sloane ( A | BN | K | G | AB )

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake – I’ve had the review saved in my feedreader and was happy to pick it up on sale recently!

  2. Melissa J says:

A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn. I found out about the book from your podcast featuring Deanna Raybourn – which was completely fascinating.
(Podcast number 223. Victorian Feminism and World Traveling Victorian Women: An Interview with Deanna Raybourn)

  3. Nadine says:

“Artistic License” which I discovered when someone commented that it was written by the same author, but under a different name, who wrote “Act Like It” which I also enjoyed and discovered here.

  4. infinitieh says:

The Boy is Back by ?Meg Cabot was so fun!

  5. Morgan says:

“The Wall of Winnipeg & Me” by Maria Zapata, and that led to me reading all her other books. Love them!

    Sock-yarn one skein Wonders!

  7. Meli says:

I’m pretty sure I heard about Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel here, which I LOVED. And the Castle Ever After series, which I also have enjoyed. Plus, I love coming to a place where I don’t have to defend my love of happy endings and Regency romances.

  8. Cristie says:

Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews. I’m currently reading Magic Strikes, the 3rd book in the series and am completely obsessed.

  9. Sure Thing says:

After the Come As You Are Podcast, I re-discovered Theresa Romain and have been enjoying a Historical Romance reading revival after a bit of a slump.

I also plan to read every single book mentioned from that podcast. I have motive, I just need means (aka money) and opportunity! 🙂

  10. Steffi says:

The Unknown Ajax by Georgette Heyer. It came up in a rec league post and I really loved it!

Also discovered Milan’s Turner Brothers series through the Bitchery and I am. In. Love.

  11. blodeuedd says:

I will go with Marked in Flesh by Anne Bishop. It was so good

  12. CelineB says:

I’ve bought so many based on recommendations and I’ve actually even read a few of them! The vast majority are probably still sitting on my kindle though. I discovered The Hating Game by Sally Thorne through this site as well as Appealed by Emma Chase which led to my reading the rest of the series. I also discovered Act Like It by Lucy Parker through you last year, but read it in January of this year.

  13. Jennifer says:

When a Marquess Loves a Woman by Vivienne Lorret – and then I read the rest of the series

  14. KellyM says:

Sustained by Emma Chase. It wasn’t a hard sell because I like anything by Emma Chase.

  15. Elise W. says:

Act Like It by Lucy Parker. One of my new favorites. I love grumpy heroes and enjoyed it so much I even picked it for my book club to read!

  16. Francesca says:

Honey Girl by Lisa Freeman. Someone mentioned it on the Whatcha Reading? discussion and something about it intrigued me. It helped get me out of a reading slump that had lasted over a year.

  17. Johanna says:

Hold me by Courtney Milan! I’m waiting with bated breath for the next book in the Cyclone series.

  18. Jules says:

I finally succumbed to Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series after reading reviews on here – I had read her contemporary “Rock” series and loved it but had bypassed her paranormal books because it’s not my usual thing.

However, a Kindle sale and the reviews on here changed my mind!

PS – Am a keen knitter so I really like the look of this bundle!!

  19. Shay says:

I’ve picked up so many books mentioned on here this year (as most recent years!), and enjoyed most of them. I’ll go with A Gentleman’s Game by Theresa Romain, which I was planning to avoid but had to try because of your review!

  20. What a great giveaway!

My favorite reading discovery here this year was Lucy Parker’s ACT LIKE IT. I love it so much, I’ve actually read the book 3 times this year – something I’ve NEVER done before. But it’s so comforting! I looooooove it. Thank you for the review!

  21. Laurel says:

I get so many recommendations here that I don’t think I can mention just one book. You are the first website I visit in the morning, and I always check back when you post your book sale recommendations. I have posted this before, but you guys do the best sale recommendations of any of the book blogs I visit – you always comment on the book in a way that I know if the book is for me or not. I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday, and thank you for the contest. I am just learning to knit, and today’s prizes look wonderful!

  22. Amy says:

I learned about both Act Like It and the Blades of the Rose series from SBTB this year. Both were great reads so thanks for that.

  23. Lostshadows says:

I haven’t finished it yet, but I’m enjoying the crazysauce that is Skye O’Malley.

  24. Diane says:

So many recommendations to choose from, but I have to go with the Pennyroyal Green series by Julie Anne Long. And as tempted as I am to read the awful books about weresharks and gay tyrannasaurus rex billionaires you so hilariously review, I know your reviews are better than those books will ever be!

  25. KPM says:

The latest October Day book “Once Broken Faith” by Seanan McGuire. Love her stuff and Toby Day in particular

  26. Andrea2 says:

My most recent keeper status ‘find’ is The Will by Kristen Ashley. It was on sale or free, you’d discussed it in a podcast and I decided to try it. I loved it and its sequel Soaring. I now have about 8 books in a pile ready to read this week – the Dream Men series and the Chaos series. Thanks for the recommend on this book and author!

  27. MollyO says:

Im glad I discovered the lady Julia grey mysteries by Deanna Raybourn. Thanks!

  28. Samara says:

I found this site when I finally had time to read again, and have been glomming books like a maniac. Top honors go to everything by Tessa Dare, Sarah MacLean, and Courtney Milan.

  29. Sofia M says:

I’m currently reading “Perfect Prey” by Laura Salters. It’s not just another mystery, but it makes you see things from the perspective of a person who is suffering mental issues. Haven’t finished it yet, but I like it a lot so far!

  30. Susan says:

So many good things! I really enjoyed The Hating Game and Act Like It. Refreshing, fun contempiraries. Ooh, and on the historic side, I really liked A Lady Awakened. So different!

  31. Rebecca says:

    Superheroes Anonymous by Lexie Dunne

  32. Andrea2 says:

My most recent keeper shelf find was The Will by Kristen Ashley, and its sequel, Soaring. Loved both of them. I have about 8 more Kristen Ashleys in a pile to read this weekend. The Will was a freebie, sitting on my kindle until I read a few comments that it had a ‘mature’ couple which sparked my interest.

  33. Avital says:

    Princess Elizabeth’s spy

  34. Marybeth says:

Second Position by Katherine Locke. It’s got a friendship to love backstory and is a second chance novel, with ballet (yay!), plus it addresses physical disability, alcoholism, and an eating disorder in a respectful way (no magic cures, just life improving in increments through hard work).

  35. Donel says:

Level Up was completely outside of my usual genre and I would have never picked it up, but I heard such great things about it on your site that I gave it a try and loved it! Thanks so much!

  36. Liz says:

It was on the TBR pile for a long time but Grave Mercy.

  37. suzy k says:

This year I discovered coloring books and I discovered that I didn’t like the naturey or cutsy ones. I like the geometrics, the patterns, the abstracts. I also like the fact that I’ve discovered that drawing your own coloring pages is fun, too!!

  38. cayenne says:

Act Like It by Lucy Parker was my fave discovery here, though maybe 2015? So let’s go with Vivienne Lorret’s When The Marquess Loves a Woman, and I have The Hating Game languishing in my TBR.

Thanks for the woolly giveaway – I’m almost finished crocheting a baby afghan, and am starting to look around for my next project.

  39. JH says:

I loved How To Fall and am so excited the sequel releases today!

    (OMG, all that yarn!)

  40. Susan says:

I’ll go with Amanda Bouchet’s A Promise of Fire. (And book 2 is due out in just a few days. Yay.) But, really, between the reviews and reader comments on the daily sales and Whatcha Readings, I find tons of great reads here. Thanks!
