The Leopard King by Ann Aguirre is $2.99! This is the first book in her paranormal romance series, Ars Numina. Readers loved the emotions the hero and heroine experienced, but some wished there was a bit more information about the world and setting. The next three books in the series are also $2.99 each.
Welcome to Book Beat! Book Beat aims to highlight other books that we may hear about through friends, social media, or other sources. We could see a gorgeous ad! Or find a new-to-us author on a list of underrated romances! Think of Book Beat as Teen Beat or Tiger Beat, but for books. And no staples to open to get the fold-out poster.
RECOMMENDED: The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker is $2.99! This is a fantasy historical and reader favorite, and a follow up is due out this year, I think. Carrie reviewed this book in June 2013 and really liked it. She says it doesn’t have romance as its primary plot, but it’s a beautiful read:
I loved this book, but not so much for the love story. I loved the mythologies, the settings, and the characters. The neighborhoods were incredibly detailed and vivid and interesting. The cultural and religious communities felt real and fascinating. I love books that let me see into another world, and this book gave me that feeling many times. The characters were all mesmerizing. I felt like I was in each setting, meeting these real people.
Heiress Gone Wild by Laura Lee Guhrke is $1.99 at select vendors! I’m a huge fan of Guhrke’s earlier romances, though haven’t kept up with her newer ones. We’ve had several reviews of those, though, and they seem to be all over the place in terms of grade. Catherine gave this particular one a D, but as always, your mileage may vary.
What a Wallflower Wants by Maya Rodale is $2.99! This is the third book in the Wallflower trilogy. I’m unsure if there’s a need for the books to be read in order. I found the trilogy to be meh generally, but I feel like I’m harder to “wow” when it comes to historical romance.
The combination of personal catnip with descriptive language and complex characterization is spot on. I recommend this for fans of vocal feminism, found family, angst, and explicit sex in their historicals. I plan to read my copy many, many times!
Ten Kisses to Scandal by Vivienne Lorret is $1.99! This is the second book in the Misadventures in Matchmaking series and honestly, it sounds like my kind of catnip. Any Lorret fans in the Bitchery? I’m sure this can be read on it’s own, but should I start at the beginning?
A Fashionable Indulgence by KJ Charles is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal. This is a m/m historical romance about class differences. Readers loved the start to a new series, though some felt the romance took a backseat to setting up the next books. It has a 3.9-star rating. Charles fans, what’d you think of this one?
Seasons of Sorcery is $2.49! This is a fantasy anthology with four stories by Jennifer Estep, Grace Draven, Jeffe Kennedy, and Amanda Bouchet. I also made cocktails for this release! My thoughts on the anthology is that it wasn’t bad, but I prefer reading these authors when they have plenty of page length to work.
Everyone, there are so many good books coming out this month that it’s really quite unfair. We have over forty titles we’re excited for below, but here are a few others we know you’re all anxious to read: Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell is releasing! (My roommate splurged on a life-sized cardboard cutout of Baz, btw.) Margaret Atwood as written a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale called The Testaments. Rachel Caine continues her Great Library series with Sword and Pen . No … Continue reading September’s New Releases→
