Ten Kisses to Scandal
Ten Kisses to Scandal by Vivienne Lorret is $1.99! This is the second book in the Misadventures in Matchmaking series and honestly, it sounds like my kind of catnip. Any Lorret fans in the Bitchery? I’m sure this can be read on it’s own, but should I start at the beginning?
The Bourne Matrimonial Agency has one rule—never fall in love with the client. However, they never said anything about kissing a rake…
Briar Bourne’s matchmaking career could be summed up in two words—comic disaster. Unless she can learn about the irresistible forces that draw men and women together, her professional future looks rather bleak. But Briar has an intriguing plan—enlisting London’s most irredeemable rake to teach her everything he knows about attraction. Given his notorious reputation, it’s no surprise that Nicholas Blacklowe, the Earl of Edgemont, requests one thing in exchange for his tutelage. For every lesson, he wants a kiss in return. And what harm could there be in a simple kiss? After all, Briar would never fall for a scoundrel…
Nicholas has no romantic notions about love, and no intention of changing his ways. He’s only helping Briar so that she can find the perfect bride for his jilted cousin. Yet Briar is so clever, so curious, so candid—so blasted tempting—that soon, Nicholas can’t stop wondering what it might be like if he was irresistible to her.
Ten lessons. Ten kisses. And a million ways to fall hopelessly, scandalously in love.

The Pages of the Mind
The Pages of the Mind by Jeffe Kennedy is $1.99 at select vendors! This is a fantasy romance with an arranged marriage. Readers loved the scholarly heroine, but found that the second half of the book had a very different feel than the first half. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads. I believe a couple other Kennedy titles are on sale.
An Orphan’s Throne
Magic has broken free over the Twelve Kingdoms. The population is beset by shapeshifters and portents, landscapes that migrate, uncanny allies who are not quite human…and enemies eager to take advantage of the chaos.
Dafne Mailloux is no adventurer–she’s a librarian. But the High Queen trusts Dafne’s ability with languages, her way of winnowing the useful facts from a dusty scroll, and even more important, the subtlety and guile that three decades under the thumb of a tyrant taught her.
Dafne never thought to need those skills again. But she accepts her duty. Until her journey drops her into the arms of a barbarian king. He speaks no tongue she knows but that of power, yet he recognizes his captive as a valuable pawn. Dafne must submit to a wedding of alliance, becoming a prisoner-queen in a court she does not understand. If she is to save herself and her country, she will have to learn to read the heart of a wild stranger. And there are more secrets written there than even Dafne could suspect…

The Scotsman Who Saved Me
The Scotsman Who Saved Me by Hannah Howell is $1.99! This is the first book in a new series, Seven Brides for Seven Scotsmen. There is a “nursed back to health” element, if that’s your catnip. However, readers were expecting a bit more action based on the book description.
From New York Times bestselling author Hannah Howell comes a brand new series featuring the MacEnroys, a family of seven strong, seductive Scottish brothers who have come to America with nerves of steel—and who will take no prisoners when it comes to love…
A brutal attack on Emily Stanton’s family has left her for dead . . . until she is found in the woods by a handsome stranger with a thick brogue who vows to protect her. There’s only one problem: As a woman with a noble English background, she has no business keeping company with such a man.
For Scotsman Iain MacEnroy, Emily’s high-tone accent is a bitter reminder of the oppressive regime he left behind. The last thing he needs is to be burdened by the needs of a beautiful, blue-eyed Englishwoman. But taking care of elegant, educated Emily begins to transform Iain in ways he never imagined. Could it be that the deep divisions from the old world no longer apply in the new—and that Iain and Emily can share a passion as lush and wild as the Scottish highlands themselves?

When Darkness Comes
When Darkness Comes by Alexandra Ivy is $1.99! Lots of smolder in these series covers! This is book one in the Guardians of Eternity paranormal romance series. This book was originally published in a PNR heyday in 2007, so it might feel dated or familiar to you, despite the cover redesign. Many of the other books in this series are also on sale.
It’s been a hell of a day for Abby Barlow. In just a few hours, she’s survived an explosion, watched her employer die, had a startling dream, and now she finds herself in a seedy Chicago hotel with the sexy, unearthly Dante, a vampire she both desires and fears.
For 341 years, Dante has stood as guardian to The Chalice, a mortal woman chosen to hold back the darkness. A terrible twist of fate has now made Abby that woman. Three hours ago. Dante would have used all his charms to seduce her. Now she is his to protect. And he will do so until his very death.
A terrifying plan has been set in motion, one that will plunge Dante and Abby into an epic battle between good and evil – and a desperate race to save their love…

Lorett’s been a mixed bag for me – sometimes her stuff is too cartoony and over the top, sometimes it’s plenty funny.
Howell has a huge backlist of books, and I don’t remember this being my favorite.
I really enjoyed Lorret’s Adventures in Matchmaking series and I marked this book as a favorite! While it can probably be read as a stand alone, I loved all the characters in the series and enjoyed visiting them throughout the three books. (I read the first two books from the library and then had to buy the third so I could finish the series!)
That being said, I don’t think you would be lost if you only read this book. Briar is introduced in the first book, but because most of the action in that book happens elsewhere, she doesn’t play a huge role. You learn more about the matchmaking agency and why the sisters started it, but I don’t think you learn anything that is integral to understanding Briar’s own story. But again, I recommend the entire series. 😉
I haven’t read Hannah Howell, but when I was a baby romance reader and buying one for myself for the first time (instead of stealing my mom’s) an older grandma type in a cute little sweatsuit with painted puppies on it came over to me and recommended Hannah Howell. She said, “If you don’t know what to read, get Hannah Howell. HH for Hot Hot!”
Pages of the mind was a DNF for me. I liked the heroine and the friendships with other women. but the instalust was over the top, the portrayal of the hero made me really annoyed with its problematic exoticism, and after the heroine and hero meet, all I wanted to do was slap the heroine across the face.
