  • The Rakess

    The Rakess by Scarlett Peckham

RECOMMENDED: The Rakess by Scarlett Peckham is $3.99! Carrie read this one and have it an A-:

The combination of personal catnip with descriptive language and complex characterization is spot on. I recommend this for fans of vocal feminism, found family, angst, and explicit sex in their historicals. I plan to read my copy many, many times!

Meet the SOCIETY OF SIRENS—three radical, libertine ladies determined to weaponize their scandalous reputations to fight for justice and the love they deserve…

    She’s a Rakess on a quest for women’s rights…

Seraphina Arden’s passions include equality, amorous affairs, and wild, wine-soaked nights. To raise funds for her cause, she’s set to publish explosive memoirs exposing the powerful man who ruined her. Her ideals are her purpose, her friends are her family, and her paramours are forbidden to linger in the morning.

    He’s not looking for a summer lover…

Adam Anderson is a wholesome, handsome, widowed Scottish architect, with two young children, a business to protect, and an aversion to scandal. He could never, ever afford to fall for Seraphina. But her indecent proposal—one month, no strings, no future—proves too tempting for a man who strains to keep his passions buried with the losses of his past.

    But one night changes everything…

What began as a fling soon forces them to confront painful secrets—and yearnings they thought they’d never have again. But when Seraphina discovers Adam’s future depends on the man she’s about to destroy, she must decide what to protect…her desire for justice, or her heart.

  • Hidden

    Hidden by Rebecca Zanetti

Hidden by Rebecca Zanetti is $2.99! This is the first book in her Deep Ops romantic suspense series and I’m very curious about it. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads, which is impressive. However, if you’ve tried Zanetti’s books in the past and have mixed feelings, readers definitely suggest trying the sample first.

Hide. That’s all Pippa can do to escape the terror chasing her. But now that she’s off the grid in a safe house, she finds plenty of interesting things to watch through the window. Like her new neighbor, with his startling green eyes, killer smile, and sexy bad-boy tattoo . . .

Run. Malcolm West is fleeing the hell he unleashed in his last assignment as an undercover cop. A backwoods bungalow sounds like the perfect place to start over. Until he discovers he’s been set up . . .

Fight. Someone’s gone to a lot of trouble to bring them together. No matter how much he resents that, and his own driving needs, Malcolm will have to dig deep and let loose the banished killer inside himself, or Pippa’s fears could come true faster than the flip of a bolt in a lock . . .

  • Perilous Trust

    Perilous Trust by Barbara Freethy

Perilous Trust by Barbara Freethy is 99c! This is the first book in the romantic suspense Off the Grid: FBI series, and it features a second chance element. Readers said the action and suspense in this book made this one a quick read, though some found the dialogue to be a bit stilted.

It was one dark night that brought Damon Wolfe and Sophie Parker together. They were two tortured souls, looking for escape, and they weren’t supposed to see each other ever again…

Four years later, Sophie’s FBI father, who is also Damon’s mentor, is killed in a suspicious car crash after leaving Sophie a cryptic message to trust no one from the agency. When Damon shows up looking for her, she isn’t sure if he’s friend or enemy, but she knows he could easily rip apart what is left of her heart.

The last thing Damon wants is to get involved with Sophie again. It was hard enough to walk away the first time. But she’s in trouble, her father’s reputation is under attack, and the lives of his fellow agents are at stake if there’s a traitor in their midst.

When someone starts shooting at them, they have no choice but to go on the run and off the grid. Everyone in their world becomes a suspect. They want to uncover the truth, but will it turn out to be the last thing they expect? Proving her father’s innocence might just cost them their hearts…and their lives…

  • The Talon of the Hawk

The Talon of the Hawk by Jeffe Kennedy

The Talon of the Hawk by Jeffe Kennedy is $2.99! This is a fantasy romance with a warrior heroine and it’s the third book in The Twelve Kingdoms series. There are some plot details that have carried over from the first two books, but many recommended this one if you’re a fan of action adventure romances.

Three daughters were born to High King Uorsin, in place of the son he wanted. The youngest, lovely and sweet. The middle, pretty and subtle, with an air of magic. And the eldest, the Heir. A girl grudgingly honed to leadership, not beauty, to bear the sword and honor of the king.

Ursula’s loyalty is as ingrained as her straight warrior’s spine. She protects the peace of the Twelve Kingdoms with sweat and blood, her sisters from threats far and near. And she protects her father to prove her worth. But she never imagined her loyalty would become an open question on palace grounds. That her father would receive her with a foreign witch at one side and a hireling captain at the other—that soldiers would look on her as a woman, not as a warrior. She also never expected to decide the destiny of her sisters, of her people, of the Twelve Kingdoms and the Thirteenth. Not with her father still on the throne and war in the air. But the choice is before her. And the Heir must lead…

  1. ReadKnitSnark says:

Joanna Bourne’s The Spymaster’s Lady is a Kindle Daily Deal for $1… Grab it for the awesome!

Knitters might be interested in another KDD: Margaret Radcliffe’s The Knowledgeable Knitter: Understand the Inner Workings of Knitting and Make Every Project a Success for $2 (I’m pretty sure I heard it recommended on a knitting podcast somewhere—but by whom? Where? When? Who knows!) Anyway, I grabbed it. (It’s more of a WHY to do things than a HOW to do them—or so I understand.)

  2. Ellie says:

The Rakess is SO. GOOD. I don’t normally like much angst either. Perhaps it was just very well done angst? Regardless, no regrets on the click click buy… or the preorder for the next in series.

  3. ReadKnitSnark says:

Right, more KDDs: a recent (2018) Jayne Ann Krentz was on the list. Promise Not to Tell …and not on the list but also sale-priced, Untouchable (book 3 of the trilogy, PNtT being book 2).

  4. Ellie says:

J/K, it was the sequel to Bringing Down the Duke I preordered like my hand was on fire. I don’t think the Rakess sequel is available yet.

  5. Lisa F says:

I really wanna read Talon of the Hawk. I love me some warrior women, and this sounds interesting!

  6. Jen says:

Yes the Rakess is very good. And very intense.

  7. Georgina says:

Victoria Helen Stone’s Jane Doe and its sequel Problem Child are on sale for $2 on Amazon US and AU (and thus probably elsewhere). The first one was excellent, looking forward to reading the second.

  8. Penny says:

Loved Jane Doe but… did not like Problem Child. It felt… pointless. Jane repeatedly protests that she doesn’t want to delve into her childhood, the things that formed her, but that is the thrust of the book. I didn’t come away with a deeper understanding of her. I didn’t feel like this added anything to her story. Maybe I am wrong, but I was disappointed.

  9. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

@Penny, I agree about Problem Child. The best part of the book was her ruining her dbag coworker.

  10. Patricia says:

CW for Talon of Hawk. Rape and incest.
