Gift Guide 2022: Candles for Your Own Hallmark Rom-Com

Look, I’m pretty open about my love of candles. I even have a whole organized 3-tiered storage bin with all of my candles. (Yes, I’ve promised to hold off on candle buying for the time being, but that doesn’t mean I can’t browse!)

Now is the season for holiday romances both on TV and to-read. These candles will help you get inspired for mistletoe, meet-cutes, and merriment with trope-themed candles.

Meet Cute candle by Briarwick. A blue candle in a glass jar.

Meet Cute Candle by Briarwick, 8oz. ($18)

Meet cutes kick off many a holiday romantic comedy. This candle smells like baked goods and coffee, which personally isn’t what I’d expect a meet cute to smell like. Sweet, yes, but maybe not food-related!

Seasons Aroma Candle Co. Cinnamon Roll candle. A white candle in a glass jar, topped with an adorable wax cinnamon roll.
Cinnamon Roll Candle by Seasons Aroma Candle Co., 11oz. ($31)

Speaking of food! Look at how cute this yummy cinnamon roll candle is! Holiday romances are usually set in small towns, complete with a quaint bakery on Main Street. Cinnamon rolls also tie directly to “cinnamon roll heroes,” who are sweet and warm and kind.

Bibliophile Candle Co. Village Bookshop candle. A white candle in an amber jar surrounded by old books.

Village Bookshop Candle by Bibliophile Candle Co., 8oz. ($20)

Now of course, if there’s a bakery on Main Street in Small Town, USA, there’s probably also a cute little bookshop as well. Or maybe only one can exist per holiday rom-com? This candle smells like leather, musk, and old books.

Christmas Tree Farm candle. A white candle in an amber jar with a metal screw on lid.

Christmas Tree Farm by Flower & Folk, 8oz. ($25)

Many Christmas tree farms make appearances in Hallmark movies. I’m such a sucker for tree-scented candles and they’re my favorite to burn all year-round, Christmas be-damned.

Confetti Candle Co. Cozy Flannel Candle. A white candle in a glass jar with a silver lid.

Cozy Flannel Candle by Confetti Candle Co., 8oz. ($24)

What pairs better with a Christmas tree farm than a nice, warm flannel? The scent description seems woodsy with a hint of citrus and vanilla.

Also shoutout to Bath & Body Work’s own “Flannel” candle, as it’s another seasonal favorite of mine.

A to Z Candles Snowed In. A lit white candle in a glass jar with white star and tree decorations blurred in the background.

Snowed In Candle by A to Z Candles, 12oz. ($25)

Did you think I was going to forget about the “snowed in” trope for a holiday rom-com candle post?! This seems like a cozy scent with notes of bergamot, woods, and musk. Perfect for burning when curled up in a cabin, waiting for the snow to settle.

There's Only One Bed Candle by Nerf Herder Co. A white candle in a frosted white glass jar next to a stack of books and fluffy linens

There’s Only One Bed Candle by The Nerf Herder Co., 13oz. ($30)

Another great trope pairing: Snowed In and There’s Only One Bed! This candle smells of fresh linens and comes with a wood wick. I love a wood wick, mainly because I find the sound of a crackling fire pretty soothing.

Romance Novel candle by Menel 27. A lit white candle in an amber glass jar resting on a white plate.

Romance Novel Candle by Menel 27, 7oz. ($20)

Readers of romance and lovers of holiday Hallmark movies are united in their love of happily ever afters. This is a more floral and fruity scent with notes of cherry blossom, peach, grapefruit, and vanilla.

Bookish Candle Box by Ellie Alexander. Six metal tins in a cardboard box.

Bookish Candle Box by Ellie Alexander ($28)

If you can’t make up your mind on candle scents, or are ready for tropical weather, this bookish candle box comes with six 2-oz. tins. The scents are as follows:

I’D RATHER BE READING ~ grapefruit and mangosteen
BOOK CRUSH ~ rose petal gelato and mint
ALL BOOKED UP ~ mandarin and mimosa
BEACH READS ~ sea salt and citrus
JUST ONE MORE CHAPTER ~ lavender, sage, and rosemary
LOST IN THE LIBRARY ~ dry gin and cypress

Anyone else love burning a candle to set the mood for work and relaxation? Do you buy candles as gifts? What small candle makers do you love?

This year I made scented candles as gifts using a kit from CandleScience. It was super easy crafting that fit my attention span- it requires no skill, tools not included in the kit, and can be done in 20 minutes.

We haven’t burned any, so I can’t comment on the quality. Some of the reviews indicated that they don’t give off much scent when they burn (which I am actually ok with).

I just bought myself this candle as a Christmas present. It hasn’t arrived yet so I can’t comment on the smell. It’s called Mr. Rochester and when it burns down it has a tiny replica of the ruins of thornfield in it. There are other candles, as well, both literary and non.
