We open with a shot of the New Mexico countryside which includes a couple of turkeys, and then Thomas running down a path. Better look out, Thomas. Turkeys are mean and also dumb, and I’ve seen them chase joggers. We cut back to the house where the other guys are talking about how much they dislike Thomas. He admitted he came on the show to be the next Bachelor and despite the fact that the … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–S17 E4: Why the Fuck is He Here Now?→
Heartbreak Incorporated is kind of a bonkers book, and I love that about it. It commits pretty hard to its own premise of a sexy, mysterious man breaking up relationships for money while also maybe doing vigilante justice on the side, and the aspiring journalist who wants to uncover all of his secrets (in both a sexy way and a hard-boiled PI kind of way). Also, there are demons, and this book is very queer. … Continue reading Heartbreak Incorporated by Alex de Campi→
This HaBO is from Shawna, who wants to find a book we may have previously featured: This isn’t even one I’ve read yet, but one that I had wanted to and foolishly didn’t save! I’m almost certain that it was in a Rec League or on sale that I was introduced to on here fairly recently – maybe the last year or so – but I can’t remember enough details to search for it well. … Continue reading HaBO: Hockey Manager Heroine→
I enjoyed this story a lot. It contains many of the elements that feel like a traditional Western to me – scenes of blizzards and horse-breaking, confrontations in the local saloon, slick shysters from out East come to take advantage of the locals – but the central characters buck the stereotypes in numerous ways.
This HaBO comes from Christine, who is looking for a romantic suspense novel: Hey there! So I am feeling like this was a series of contemporary romantic suspense books that I read about 15 years ago. T he books had connecting characters (brothers, I think). There was quite a bit of sailing/yachts in the first book. The hero was kind of a jerk. The heroine’s first name started with a T (Tallulah? Tabitha?) and she … Continue reading HaBO: Yachts & More Pearls→
Anchored Hearts by Priscilla Oliveras is $1.99! This is book two in the Keys to Love series and has a second chance romance. This isn’t my favorite trope, but I enjoyed this book. If you like really emotional contemporaries, this will tick that box.
Happy Cover Snark Monday! From Dee: His arms and whatever happened to his hands is scary enough but if you only look at the thumbnails, you wonder where her second arm went. I’m also not sure if he’s a vampire or just sniffing her hair in a REALLY creepy way. Enjoy. Amanda: Look ma, no hands. Sarah: Wheeeeeeee! Also, if you’re going to flaming firebang, go for it, but maybe not near so many books? … Continue reading Cover Snark: No Fires in the Library, Please→
Hey all! We’re here with some Lightning Reviews. If you’re unfamiliar, these are quick reviews, usually around 500 words or less. We try to run two or three at a time. It’s kinda fun to see how different how reviewers’ tastes are, especially when we group their reviews together. This time, we have Cat Sebastian’s latest romance and a new thriller!
I am writing this while sleep deprived, guzzling a cold brew, having stayed up all night reading. At some point I remember my husband telling me he was going to bed and me telling him I’d be right up. The next time I looked up I had finished The Last Thing He Told Me and, aside from my reading light, the house was pitch dark. The Last Thing He Told Me is an excellently plotted … Continue reading The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave→
The Princess Knight by G.A. Aiken is $2.99! This is book two in the Scarred Earth Saga. I loved and reviewed the first book and Lara reviewed this one, giving it a B:
The cast of characters EXPLODES in this book. Pay attention to each and every new character; they are all important. We pop into a lot of different POVs which can be a little dizzying, but adds beautifully to the immersive world building of it all.
