Hello, everyone! How are we all doing?
I went bridal dress shopping last weekend and it was honestly a really great experience. I hate clothes shopping in general, and I was concerned that the pressure of finding such an important garment would only heighten those negative feelings. My stylist was so lovely and supportive. As someone bigger chested, I was also super dubious that I didn’t need a bra in these dresses, but she was absolutely right.
I probably tried on a dozen dresses during that appointment and my body was so sore the next day. Who knew it would be so physically taxing!
I did have my eye on one beautiful dress to try on and I did, but it didn’t make me feel special. In the end, I went with this one, which made me feel confident, a little sexy, and like myself. I also grabbed a beautiful metal floral headpiece.
If you’re in the New England area, I highly recommend Madeline’s Daughter Bridal in New Hampshire.

Are you in the Kansas City area? There are a few spots left for this cute book retreat! It also looks like there is one in the works for December in California.
I love this idea and some of my friends have hosted something similar (and for cheaper). However, if you prefer to sit back, relax, and let someone else handle all the planning, this may be a really fun option for you and a friend.

My partner sent me this one. It’s a gallery of rehabilitators wrapping owls in towels. That’s it.

Curious about why librarians make for good intelligence operatives? Thanks to Susan for this link!

I heard about the Proper Help Foundation on Instagram and thought it was a really simple and easy way to help local communities. You can donate to help pay off student lunch debt for students. It seems like a relatively new organization, but it is listed on Charity Navigator.

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

Amanda, that dress is beautiful; and I’m glad you found the right dress for you! Thank you for sharing.
Congratulations on your dress, Amanda. What a lovely choice!
Oh, that wedding dress is GORGEOUS! What a great choice.
What a lovely dress, Amanda!
What a great roundup of links this week! The owls are full of squee. And I’d like to have a reading retreat in a place like that! (I especially like the kitty wallpaper in that one room.) I wonder if they’ll ever do one here? There are tons of great places not too far from Atlanta that would make excellent retreat bases, Unicoi State Park in Helen and Dillard House in Rabun County to name just a couple. (Great food at both too!)
So glad you found your perfect wedding dress! I think the best part about it is that it looks so relaxed without losing any of the elegance.
That’s a stunning dress, Amanda! Congrats.
I just sent the owls in towels link to my partner. The captions are hilarious, especially in combination with the images! Thanks for the delight. (Fits right in with our love of feline/Murderbot memes)
I love that the owls site allows you to donate to the rescue org and learn more. (And duh, I posted before I realized that the captions are the titles from the original posts.) I’ve bookmarked it to my warm fuzzies folder.
Love that dress!
I just had to comment and say that I found my dress at Madeline’s way back in 2013 and was so pleasantly surprised at how awesome the consultant was at finding me great dresses as I usually loathe shopping and was worried how a dress was going to look on someone who stands 5’2 in heels. Great to hear they were just as good for you and that they are still going strong!
Beautiful dress!
Was signing up for the book retreat information… then discovered their preferred age group was 21-45. Ah, well… I’ll just curl up with a good book.
@Diane: The incorporation of an age range is…strange. I definitely didn’t notice that.
Love your dress!
Those owls. <3
@Diane @Amanda: Strange and disappointing. We older readers have so much to offer.
Lovely wedding dress. Congratulations!
My partner mentioned recently that he’s surprised that I’ve never been recruited by an intelligence service. I told him that the CIA did have a recruiting table at the last librarian conference I attended.
Why does the LA Bookclub of that Boutique Book Retreats have an upper age limit of 45? Do they have a similarly ageist limit on the Book Retreats? Awful and disappointing.
That’s a beautiful dress! Congratulations to the two of you, Amanda <3 <3 <3
That dress is gorgeous!
