A wealthy American woman becomes engaged to a Scottish laird. He is a nice enough guy, but is only marrying her for her money. When she goes to his castle, she discovers another man in a secret set of rooms. He is the actual laird – the older brother – but he has been abroad for many years traveling and publishing adventure books. She is a big fan of the books, but doesn’t realize he is the author. Now he has returned home to recover from an illness.
She spends a lot of time with the older brother and falls in love with him while drinking good scotch whiskey. Although she thought at the beginning that he was an old man because he was so ill, gradually they become attracted to one another and fall in love.
I’ve been racking my brain and searching for this plot, and it feels weird because I think it’s a well-known book or author, like a Julie Garwood or something. But I just can’t track it down.
