I’m looking for a book that I think was a HABO – maybe five years ago? Not recently, and it might have only been something discussed in the comments of a post, because I have searching all the keywords I remember on the site and haven’t found it.
What I remember is that it was a category romance from the 80s or 90s and it sounded cute and someone linked the text and I read the first chapter or so – I don’t remember how it was described in the possible HABO, but what I remember from reading it is that a woman in an apartment has recently broken up with her boyfriend, and has custody of his dog because his new girlfriend doesn’t like it or something. She’s writing letters to or leaving messages for a carpenter/handyman who’s supposed to fix up a cabin somewhere rural, and they’re very snarky, but they don’t get through to him and she ends up at the cabin with no water or toilet or lights or something, and she’s a city girl with a little dog.
She might be an interior designer? Possibly a redhead? The cover may have had her sitting on a stepladder? Or at a desk?
The things I’m most confident on were that she was funny about being stuck with this dog and that the letters/messages are sarcastic but not mean. I really hope this rings a bell for someone because the longer it takes to find the more need I feel to read it (and the more I ruminate over all the other books I remember scenes from but can’t place from childhood on).
