  • Weather Girl

Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon

RECOMMENDED: Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon is $2.99! Carrie read this one and gave it a B+:

I’ve read a lot of books recently in which the romance was the least interesting part of the book. This book gave me the opposite feeling. Ari and Russell are nice people who are nice to spend time with, so while this book was not, shall we say, action packed, it was a lovely story about being honest with and about yourself and others and finding unexpected love.

A TV meteorologist and a sports reporter scheme to reunite their divorced bosses with unforecasted results in this charming romantic comedy from the author of The Ex Talk.

Ari Abrams has always been fascinated by the weather, and she loves almost everything about her job as a TV meteorologist. Her boss, legendary Seattle weatherwoman Torrance Hale, is too distracted by her tempestuous relationship with her ex-husband, the station’s news director, to give Ari the mentorship she wants. Ari, who runs on sunshine and optimism, is at her wits’ end. The only person who seems to understand how she feels is sweet but reserved sports reporter Russell Barringer.

In the aftermath of a disastrous holiday party, Ari and Russell decide to team up to solve their bosses’ relationship issues. Between secret gifts and double dates, they start nudging their bosses back together. But their well-meaning meddling backfires when the real chemistry builds between Ari and Russell.

Working closely with Russell means allowing him to get to know parts of herself that Ari keeps hidden from everyone. Will he be able to embrace her dark clouds as well as her clear skies?

  • Duke Most Wicked

Duke Most Wicked by Lenora Bell

Duke Most Wicked by Lenora Bell is $1.99! This is book three in the Wallflower vs. Rogues series. The hero needs to marry to support his sisters, and the heroine is their music teacher who agrees to be their chaperone throughout the season.

USA Today bestselling author Lenora Bell returns to the Wallflowers vs. Rogues series with a brilliant new novel about a scandalous duke and a wallflower with a secret.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a wicked duke who has gambled away his fortune must be in want of an heiress.

Scarred by a dark secret, Brandan Delamar, Duke of Westbury, must concede his misdeeds have finally caught up with him. With five younger sisters to support, he must marry for money.

Sunny and steadfast, Viola Beaton is no heiress. As music instructor to the duke’s sisters, she’s developed a genuine affection for the bright young ladies. Unfortunately, she’s also developed a forbidden passion for her wildly attractive employer.

It must be the way he inspires her to compose sonatas about moonlight and kisses. Or how his gaze smolders and lingers on her skin. Or because he makes her heart whisper impossible things.

When Westbury decrees that he’ll choose not only a bride, but grooms for his sisters, Viola can’t allow him to curtail their freedom. She strikes a bargain: if he allows his sisters to attend the Season, Viola will chaperone them and keep them safe from scandal.

Only…what if Viola and the duke are the ones most likely to cause a scandal?

  • Strike the Zither

Strike the Zither by Joan He

Strike the Zither by Joan He is $2.99! This was mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet and is the start to a new YA fantasy series. I believe Susan was really excited for this one.

An epic YA fantasy about found family, rivals, and identity, from New York Times and Indie bestselling author Joan He, inspired by Three Kingdoms, one of the Four Classics of Chinese Literature.

The year is 414 of the Xin Dynasty, and chaos abounds. A puppet empress is on the throne. The realm has fractured into three factions and three warlordesses hoping to claim the continent for themselves.

But Zephyr knows it’s no contest.

Orphaned at a young age, Zephyr took control of her fate by becoming the best strategist of the land and serving under Xin Ren, a warlordess whose loyalty to the empress is double-edged—while Ren’s honor draws Zephyr to her cause, it also jeopardizes their survival in a war where one must betray or be betrayed. When Zephyr is forced to infiltrate an enemy camp to keep Ren’s followers from being slaughtered, she encounters the enigmatic Crow, an opposing strategist who is finally her match. But there are more enemies than one—and not all of them are human.

  • Finding Fraser

    Finding Fraser by KC Dyer

Finding Fraser by KC Dyer is $2.99! I believe this is more chick lit or a novel with romantic elements, rather than a contemporary romance. However, I’m just making a judgement call based on the description. Any Outlander fans read this one?

Escape to Scotland with the delightful new novel that readers have fallen in love with—inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s #1 New York Times bestselling Outlander series.

I met Jamie Fraser when I was nineteen years old. He was tall, red-headed, and at our first meeting at least, a virgin. He was, in fact, the perfect man.

That he was fictional hardly entered into it…

On the cusp of thirty, Emma Sheridan is desperately in need of a change. After a string of failed relationships, she can admit that no man has ever lived up to her idea of perfection: the Scottish fictional star of romantic fantasies the world over—James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser.

Her ideal man might be ripped from the pages of a book, but Emma hopes that by making one life-altering decision she might be able to turn fiction into fact. After selling all her worldly possessions, Emma takes off for Scotland with nothing but her burgeoning travel blog to confide in.

But as she scours the country’s rolling green hills and crumbling castles, Emma discovers that in searching for her own Jamie Fraser, she just might find herself.

I liked Weather Girl. Bell sill hasn’t written a novel that’s stricken a cord with me yet, sadly.

  6. Liz says:

I read Finding Fraser when it was first released – I “met” kc dyer online at TheLitForum dot com (before AOL shut down the CompuServe message boards) and she’s still in-and-out over there from time to time.

In terms of what the novel is … The Highland Fling by Meghan Quinn reminded me a lot of FF, but that one’s quite a bit spicier.

That said, trying to categorize FF as one particular genre or other is challenging – much like Outlander (which was first sold as Romance, but it’s more like … historical fiction with time-travel & romantic elements) of which the main character is an avid fan! Diana Gabaldon wrote a blurb about FF because she & kc are friends (of a sort) through CompuServe Books & Writers (the precursor to TheLitForum dot com)

Anyway, if I were to categorize FF, I’d put it into chick-lit adjacent, but more closely aligned with gentle contemporary romance with road trip vibes.
