  • Ten Rules for Faking It

Ten Rules for Faking It by Sophie Sullivan

Ten Rules for Faking It by Sophie Sullivan is $2.99! When a radio producer’s break up rant is accidentally live on the air, the station decides to launch a Bachelorette style contest, though the heroine may already be falling for her boss. It sounds like there’s a lot going on here. Have you read it?

What happens when your love life becomes the talk of the town?

As birthdays go, this year’s for radio producer Everly Dean hit rock-bottom.

Worse than the “tonsillectomy birthday.” Worse than the birthday her parents decided to split (the first time). But catching your boyfriend cheating on you with his assistant?

    Even clichés sting.

But this is Everly’s year! She won’t let her anxiety hold her back. She’ll pitch her podcast idea to her boss.

    There’s just one problem.

Her boss, Chris, is very cute. (Of course). Also, he’s extremely distant (which means he hates her, right? Or is that the anxiety talking)?

And, Stacey the DJ didn’t mute the mic during Everly’s rant about Simon the Snake (syn: Cheating Ex).

    That’s three problems.

Suddenly, people are lining up to date her, Bachelorette-style, fans are voting (Reminder: never leave house again), and her interest in Chris might be a two-way street. It’s a lot for a woman who could gold medal in people-avoidance. She’s going to have to fake it ‘till she makes it to get through all of this.

Perhaps she’ll make a list: The Ten Rules for Faking It.

Because sometimes making the rules can find you happiness when you least expect it.

  • The Arctic Fury

The Arctic Fury by Greer Macallister

RECOMMENDED: The Arctic Fury by Greer Macallister is $2.51 or $2.99 depending on the retailer! Carrie gave this historical mystery a B+.

I loved this book. It kept me in suspense and when it was over I wanted to read it again. It sent me down many Google rabbit holes, which is my favorite kind of book. I recommend this for people who aren’t averse to ambiguity, who like stories of adventure and exploration as well as intersectional examinations of women’s lives, and to people who like mystery/thrillers.

A dozen women join a secret 1850s Arctic expedition—and a sensational murder trial unfolds when some of them don’t come back.

Eccentric Lady Jane Franklin makes an outlandish offer to adventurer Virginia Reeve: take a dozen women, trek into the Arctic, and find her husband’s lost expedition. Four parties have failed to find him, and Lady Franklin wants a radical new approach: put the women in charge.

A year later, Virginia stands trial for murder. Survivors of the expedition willing to publicly support her sit in the front row. There are only five. What happened out there on the ice?

Set against the unforgiving backgdrop of one of the world’s most inhospitable locations, USA Today bestsellng author Greer Macallister uses the true story of Lady Jane Franklin’s tireless attempts to find her husband’s lost expedition as a jumping-off point to spin a tale of bravely, intrigue, perseverance and hope.

  • Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas

Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas by Katie Ruggle

Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas by Katie Ruggle is $1.99! This one has a lot of catnip: a cowboy firefighter, who is also a single parent. This one was recommended on Twitter, so much so that I even added to my Goodreads list (even though I avoid holiday romances).

In the heart of the Rockies
In the arms of a cowboy
One white Christmas can change everything.

When firefighter and single dad Steve Springfield moved his four kids to a Colorado Christmas tree ranch, he intended for it to be a safe haven. But he never expected danger to follow them to his childhood home…

Or that he would come face-to-face with the one girl he could never forget.

Folk artist Camille Brandt lives a quiet life. As the town’s resident eccentric, she’s used to being lonely–until Steve freaking Springfield changes everything. Brave and kind, he’s always had a piece of her heart, and it doesn’t take long before she’s in danger of falling for him and his rambunctious kids. But as mysterious fires break out across the sleepy Colorado town, Steve and Camille will have to fight if they want their happy family to survive until Christmas…

  • Mistletoe on Main Street

Mistletoe on Main Street by Olivia Miles

Mistletoe on Main Street by Olivia Miles is $2.99! This is a small town second chance romance set around the holidays. It’s also the first book in the Briar Creek series. Readers say this is a great slow burn romance. However, others didn’t really get the reasoning behind the hero and heroine not getting together. Have you read this one?

Sleigh bells, snow, and second chances . . .

Briar Creek’s quaint shop windows, cozy homes nestled in snow, and neighborly residents are what Christmas dreams are made of–for everyone except Grace Madison. She left her hometown years ago to pursue a writing career. But when her father’s death leaves his bookstore empty, Grace must return to face why she fled Vermont in the first place: Luke Hastings, who still heats her up like a shot of smoky whiskey on a cold winter’s night.

Grace is back, and Luke is worried. How much has she changed as a bestselling author in the big city? What memories will she stir up? And was the choice he made five years ago the biggest mistake of his life?

Now, with their past, present, and future rocking around the Christmas tree, it’s time for Grace and Luke to face the music . . . and the mistletoe.

Lucy Score has three Christmas-themed romances at $0.99 for like a day. Her books are a hit and miss for me but I snagged one of these to check out.

    Copying from yesterday’s post ~

I believe that @DDD recommended this book — Jingle Bell Beard: Kringle Family Christmas, Book 3 by Julie Kriss. It is currently free for US Kindle readers.

A Firefighter’s Christmas Gift (Holidays in Heart Falls Book 1) by Vivian Arend is also currently free. It’s Vivian Arend, so I heartily recommend the book even without reading it first!

I see that Rachel Reid’s Game Changer (book one in this m/m series) is currently $1.99 for US Kindle readers.

  6. Emily B says:

10 Rules for Faking It was cute but kind of forgettable, and if I recall correctly, it’s closed doors/clean, for folks who care about that.

  7. Msb says:

Don’t need Arctic Fury – read LeGuin’s The Compass Rose, novella about a team of South American women who reach the South Pole first – but keep their feat secret because “some man would break his heart”.

  8. Vivi12 says:

I also read the Kringles family Christmas series and enjoyed it. Novellas at Christmas are the perfect bite sized treat! Somehow related is the the Kane Christmas trilogy, which I inhaled.

  9. Zuzus says:

I loved Arctic Fury’s competent characters and supportive sisterhood. It stuck with me in a year of forgettable reading.
