If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month.
Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), and we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month.
We also think this will help us feature books from smaller publishers who don’t have buy links up as early as the bigger trade houses.
As always, if we missed any books that you’re particularly looking forward to, tell us all about them in the comments.

A Certain Appeal
Author: Vanessa King
Released: November 2, 2021 by G.P. Putnam's Sons
Genre: Contemporary Romance, RomanceA sparkling contemporary retelling of Pride and Prejudice set in the tantalizing world of New York City burlesque, perfect for fans of The Kiss Quotient and The Roommate.
After a betrayal derailed her interior design career, Liz Bennet found a fresh start in New York. Now an executive assistant by day and stage kitten by night, she’s discovered a second home with the performers at Meryton, Manhattan’s top-tier burlesque venue. Love’s the last thing on her mind when she locks eyes with Will Darcy across the crowded club. The spark between them is undeniable–that is, until she overhears the uptight wealth manager call her merely “tolerable.”
Bennet is determined to write Darcy off, but once their besties fall head-over-heels, they’re thrown into each other’s orbit again and again. Each encounter begins to feel more heated than the last, but is their chemistry enough to topple that terrible first impression? What’s more, when a charming newcomer arrives on the scene with accusations against Darcy, his claims leave Bennet torn. And when a sudden development leaves Meryton’s fate in jeopardy, she will have to decide who to trust in time to salvage her design dreams, her heart, and the stage she shares with her found family…
Amanda: Pride & Prejudice but make it burlesque!
Ellen: A lot of P&P adaptations are bad but I really can’t resist one set in the world of BURLESQUE!

The Donut Trap
Author: Julie Tieu
Released: November 2, 2021 by Avon
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Romanceulie Tieu sparkles in this debut romantic comedy, which is charmingly reminiscent of the TV show Kim’s Convenience and Frankly in Love by David Yoon, about a young woman who feels caught in the life her parents have made for her until she falls in love and finds a way out of the donut trap.
Jasmine Tran has landed herself behind bars—maple bars that is. With no boyfriend or job prospects, Jasmine returns home to work at her parents’ donut shop. Jasmine quickly loses herself in a cyclical routine of donuts, Netflix, and sleep. She wants to break free from her daily grind, but when a hike in rent threatens the survival of their shop, her parents rely on her more than ever.
Help comes in the form of an old college crush, Alex Lai. Not only is he successful and easy on the eyes, to her parents’ delight, he’s also Chinese. He’s everything she should wish for, until a disastrous dinner reveals Alex isn’t as perfect as she thinks. Worse, he doesn’t think she’s perfect either.
With both sets of parents against their relationship, a family legacy about to shut down, and the reappearance of an old high school flame, Jasmine must scheme to find a solution that satisfies her family’s expectations and can get her out of the donut trap once and for all.
Aarya: I enjoyed this, but the parent-daughter relationship is far more interesting/nuanced than the romantic arc.

Just Haven’t Met You Yet
Author: Sophie Cousens
Released: November 9, 2021 by G.P. Putnam's Sons
Genre: Contemporary Romance, RomanceFrom the New York Times bestselling author of This Time Next Year comes a heartwarming and hilarious tale that asks: what if you pick up the wrong suitcase in an airport, only to fall head over heels for its unseen owner?
Laura’s business trip to the Channel Islands isn’t exactly off to a great start. After unceremoniously dumping everything in her bag in front of the most attractive man she’s ever seen in real life, she arrives at her hotel only to realize she’s grabbed the wrong suitcase from the airport. Her only consolation? The irresistibly appealing contents of the case: a copy of her favorite book; piano music; and a rugged, heavy knit fisherman sweater only a Ryan Gosling lookalike could pull off. The owner of this suitcase is Laura’s dream man–she’s sure of it. Now, all she has to do is find him.
The mix-up seems written in the stars. After all, what are the odds that she’d find The One on the same remote island where her mom and dad had first fallen in love, especially as she sets out to write an article about their epic romance? Commissioning surly cab driver Ted to ferry her around seems like her best bet in both tracking down the mystery suitcase owner and retracing her parents’ footsteps. And if beneath Ted’s gruffness lies a wit that makes their cab rides strangely entertaining, so much the better. But as Laura’s long-lost luggage soulmate proves difficult to find–and as she realizes that the love story she’s held on a pedestal all her life might not have been that perfect–she’ll have to rethink her whole outlook on love to discover what she really wants.
Sarah: Contemporaries have been hit or miss for me lately, but I’m really curious about this “I grabbed the wrong suitcase and who ARE you with this stuff” vacation story.

The Tyrant Alpha’s Rejected Mate
Author: Cate C. Wells
Released: November 12, 2021
Genre: Paranormal, RomanceHe rejected me, and then he realized I’m the center of his world. Bummer.
Una
I keep my head down. In this backwards pack, females rank low, and my bad leg makes me damaged goods. It doesn’t help that I’ve never shifted. I don’t mind the late twenties single life, though. No one’s paying any attention as I build an illicit farmer’s market empire. My roomies and I are doing it for ourselves, and if life under Killian Kelly is stifling, at least it’s predictable. We can deal.
But when biology finally kicks in, I lose my mind. I claim our alpha as my mate. And he rejects me in front of the whole pack.
It’s all good. It only hurts when I breathe. I’ll survive. That’s what I do.Who wants an arrogant jerk for a mate, anyway? I’ve got a business to run.
Killian
To lead this pack out of the dark ages, I’ve had to be hard. Merciless. I don’t flinch, and I don’t make mistakes.Una Hayes isn’t my mate.
My wolf might have some kind of strange infatuation, but if she were mine, I’d know it. And I can walk away, can’t I?
And if I keep coming back? If she starts living in my head?I’m the strongest male in five generations. My pack scrambles to do my bidding. I can bring one quiet female back in line. No one can possibly be as stubborn as I am.
There’s no way I’ve ruined the best thing that’s ever happened to me.
I’m the Quarry pack alpha. I don’t lose.
Aarya: Cate C. Wells’s writing is wildly addictive and I would trust this (potentially very messy/problematic) power dynamic/rejection trope from her in a way I wouldn’t with other authors. The hero seems like A LOT (read: an alphahole) from the blurb, but I am willing to read for an awesome heroine. This won’t be everyone’s cup of tea (definitely avoid if you don’t like domineering heroes).

I only have one book on my November list so far, Nicole Glover’s The Undertakers. It’s a sequel to her first mystery The Conductors. I loved the setting, a community of Black Americans building their lives in Philadelphia fter the Civil War. Many emancipated themselves with the help of the main characters Hetty and Benjy, who have very unique magical powers that they now use in detective work. They’re also running a funeral parlor now, which will probably bring some weird and wonderful cases.
I’m sure the discussion here will be adding to my reading list!
I haven’t read any Cate C. Wells, but the blurb for THE TYRANT ALPHA’S REJECTED MATE had me at “ No one’s paying any attention as I build an illicit farmer’s market empire.” Illicit farmer’s markets? Yes, please!
As for November books I did know about:
November 1 brings Caitlin Crews’s latest HP, THE BRIDE HE STOLE FOR CHRISTMAS. This one features the second-chance trope: a woman (about to walk down the aisle in an arranged marriage) reconnects with the man with whom she once had a passionate affair.
Once again this season, Molly O’Keefe has joined forces with S. Doyle and Julie Kriss to write a trilogy of Christmas novellas, this time called the Kringle Family Christmas. S. Doyle’s contribution, THE GRUMP WHO STOLE CHRISTMAS, drops November 1. Frankly, I’ve rarely been able to get into S. Doyle, so will probably not read that one, but Molly O’Keefe’s VERY MERRY MARRIED (couple who got drunk Vegas married negotiate a divorce) arrives November 3, and Julie Kriss’s JINGLE BELL BEARD (second-chance for former teenage sweethearts) arrives November 5. I’ll definitely be grabbing those two.
Amelia Wilde’s DARK REIGN arrives November 9. It’s part of the multi-author Midnight Dynasty series and I’m assuming this will be the first book in a duet or trilogy. The heroine is a young artist, the hero is a reclusive billionaire art collector who wants the heroine’s art…and her.
Sybil Bartel’s VICTOR, the latest book in her Alpha Elite romantic-suspense series, was originally scheduled for October but has now been moved to November 24. In this one, the hero falls for the woman he has been hired to keep under surveillance.
So so so excited for Lore Olympus!
I have been to a lot of burlesque clubs in nyc (and strip clubs which are not at all the same) and I am lmfao at the idea of setting P&P in any of them, but I am really hoping against hope this “top-tier” venue is based on The Box, so I guess I’m checking out A Certain Appeal.
I’ve put a hold on A Marvellous Light and I am very hopeful.
I read an ARC of Ilona Andrews’ new Kinsman novel, Fated Blades, and I can’t wait to see it out in the wild. It’s been about ten years since they’ve released a story in their futuristic sci-fi world and the new story doesn’t disappoint. Enemies to lovers (literally as their families are feuding), colorful world-building, and an explosive connection between the two leads made this book fly by. It’s published by Amazon and the kindle releases 11/23.
Also looking forward to Diana Gabaldon’s new Outlander book. It’s been six or seven years since the last one so I’m ready!
Julie Ann Long has her new Palace of Rogues book out this month. That series has been such a witty warm comfort during covid especially. Releases 11/30.
Hmmm. maybe these are more for part 2 but I’m still working on the October books!
THE GEEK WHO SAVED CHRISTMAS by Annabeth Albert, MURDER MOST ACTUAL by Alexis Hall, and CHRISTMAS MOUNTAIN by Garrett Leigh all drop the week of Nov 8th.
Game On: Tempting 28 by Janet Evanovich. I still like Stephanie. November 2.
All of us Villains by Amanda Foody: “The Blood Moon rises. The Blood Veil falls. The Tournament begins.” November 9
The Apsley House Incident by Tracy Grant: I’m addicted to all the pretty Regency spies. November 10
@SBSarah, “New Charlotte Holmes!” pretty much sums up the month for me.
Although, mermaid….
Also, Ryan Gosling? I think it’s been established Chris Evans owns the fisherman knit sweater. Discuss.
Donna, I just came to make the same comment about the fisherman sweater! Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Ryan Gosling look-a-like, but he’s in a suit. It’s Chris Evans who is pulling off that fisherman’s sweater! Now excuse me while I go daydream about Chris Evans and that fisherman’s sweater…
ALL THE FEELS by Olivia Dade got pushed back to Nov 16th due to supply issues… gah! And like @Carrie G I’m waiting for MURDER MOST ACTUAL by Alexis Hall. Other than that I’m still on my Guild Hunter kick…
Skin of the Sea should be a candidate for the next Cover Awe. It’s beautiful.
Not to be boring and realistic/practical, but if you grabbed the wrong suitcase at the airport, wouldn’t the appropriate thing be to return it to the airport and explain the situation?
Well, it’s been out for a few days already (so not technically November), but I have to say TOTAL CREATIVE CONTROL by Joanna Chambers & Sally Malcolm is awesome. I just inhaled it – so good!
Hadn’t realised that there’s a new Alexis Hall on the way – I’ll have to check that out.
Also have the Annabeth Albert on preorder – looking for a bit of early holiday fluff!
@Midge – I also loved TOTAL CREATIVE CONTROL! So much fun. Lovely angst. Good characters. And the villain (if you can call him that) is hilariously bad – pompous, self-involved, hypocritical, unreasonable, and vain.
@Penny – I am also on a huge GuildHunter kick. Honestly, I’d kind of dropped the series a few years ago because I felt there was a bit too much Deus ex Machina in the plot lines. But when I heard that Illium and Aodhan’s story was finally coming out, I got myself caught up and dived in. It was worth it. I loved ARCHANGEL’S LIGHT! To my great delight, no one suddenly discovered a heretofore unknown and extremely useful power and, more importantly, the emotional journey for Illium and Aodhan was fabulous.
@Christine – yessss! I rolled my eyes so much at Charlie. And I loved that whilst it’s a workplace romance, we don’t get into the whole power imbalance thing.
I read Duke, Actually’s ARC and enjoyed it.
I have both “A Marvelous Light” and “Skin of the Sea” on my hold list at the library. They both look awesome.
@Cassandra Im so excited for the new Ilona Andrews kinsmen story! I love love love Silver shark and Silent blade so much.
The description for A CERTAIN APPEAL intrigued me enough to take a chance. P&P adaptations can be hit or miss but I was really curious about how the burlesque would be worked in.
…I’m four chapters in.
…I am going to have to hide my tablet from myself so that I can get any work done.
This book is wonderful. It would be wonderful without the P&P elements. I haven’t made this many ‘good book noises’ in months.
@KarenF: Yay! So happy you’re enjoying it!
@Christine – I’m looking forward to getting to that book!!
I have every single book this month on my TBR pile, which is a new record for me.
Oh man am I excited for the Cate C Wells book ! I’ve read a couple of hers and like them except for a lot of her heroines skew pretty young, which I can no longer get into. Looking forward to a late 20’s heroine
@Merle, add me to those puzzled by this premise in reality. Of course you would return it to the airline and go see if they have yours! Because there is NO guarantee that the presumed dreamy owner of the suitcase you grabbed happened to pick yours up, and you need your stuff! (Clearly I’m not cut out to be a rom-com heroine!)
