Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Happy Wednesday! September is almost on its way out. Can you believe it?

I’m so ready for October. I love spooky season, maple and pumpkin themed treats, cooler temps, and breaking out all the fluffy blankets.

I’m also getting tattoo #3 and attending a friend’s Halloween wedding. Pretty pumped!

How about you? Are you ready for October?

This is from the L.A. Times so it may be behind a paywall, but I was able to read it before I hit my article limit. It’s about an obituary a brother wrote for his sister and yes, I did cry. You can see a tweet here for the gist of it.

Lil Nas X, the precious angel that he is, has created a “baby registry” for his latest album. The registry is a list of organizations inspired by each track on his album that you can donate to. The kids are all right.

Look at these gorgeous special editions! I’m unsure where they can be purchased as I don’t think it said in the post.

Every year, I think I’m going to be one of those people who gets into planners and journals. Inevitably, I buy cute washi tape and then realize my handwriting is terrible and my planner just looks awful and I forget where it is half the time. If you have a surplus of washi tape, like myself, this Twitter thread has some great ideas on how else you can use your stash!

Yesterday was September 21st, which is one of my favorite days because it’s become a running joke for writer Demi Adejuyigbe to create a video celebrating the date from the Earth, Wind & Fire song. It’s brought me so much joy.

Normally, he asks people to give to a cause at the end of each video. This is his sixth and final year and he’s gone big! I had a little cry knowing it’s over, but I’m overjoyed that he’s raised over $600k (as of writing this last night) for some great organizations. I chipped in $20 myself.

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

I wrote the obituaries for both my mom and dads. Lots of starts and stops, wadded up paper, and tears, but also a very special way to honor them. You get to give a sense of who they were beyond the traditional recitation of life’s milestones and why they’ll be missed.

@DonnaMarie: same here. My mom died almost exactly two years to the day after my dad; they were married for 61 years. Writing their obituaries (my siblings contributed, but they asked me to pull everything together) was both very difficult (don’t attempt without a box of Kleenex close by!) and very helpful in coming to terms with loss & grief.

I cried when I read the obituary for the woman with cerebral palsy. I work with special needs students and many of them are non-verbal or have limited vocabularies, but they will give 100% of their abilities to connect with others.

I’m a total washi addict but I don’t use it much outside of my planners. But to see someone who does incredible things with it, check out @jericaplans on Instagram. She does amazing art with it.

My friend got me some washi tape and I’ve been wondering what to do with it. I have study journals but I don’t decorate them the way it seems like people do these days. I’m totally stealing that charger/cable idea though!

The link that caught my eye this week is a cookie recipe from St. Hildegard: https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/medieval-cookie-recipe
I definitely want to try it out.

I adore Lil Nas X and everything he’s doing with performance and identity and expectations of celebrity. @Gwen’s link to his performance of Jolene reminded me of this amazing essay by Dr Tressie McMillan Cottom and her search for ‘The Daughters of Dolly’ which led to a theory that Lil Nas X may the closest spiritual successor to Dolly’s drag.

    Amanda,

Del Rey appears to be putting the Temerarie in a special printing. The first three novels will be available 10/19/21. I think they intend to reprint them three at a time and eventually the whole set will spell Temararie. It’s at Amazon right now.
