The World We Make by N.K. Jemisin is $3.99! This is book two in the Great Cities series and came at the beginning of November. Book one has been recommended (and featured on sale) many times and this one was mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet.

My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones is $2.99! Not sure if this is a leftover Kindle Daily Deal from yesterday. This was a big release last year and the library holds still might be rather long. Did you read this one?

RECOMMENDED: Written in the Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur is $1.99! Though the book copy mentions both Pride & Prejudice and Bridget Jones’s Diary, though our reviewers mention it’s more like the former than the latter. Aarya and Tara reviewed this one together and gave it an A-:
Tara: This book is so freaking cute, it should be illegal. And luckily, Aarya agrees with me, so we’re talking about it together!

Happy Wednesday! September is almost on its way out. Can you believe it? I’m so ready for October. I love spooky season, maple and pumpkin themed treats, cooler temps, and breaking out all the fluffy blankets. I’m also getting tattoo #3 and attending a friend’s Halloween wedding. Pretty pumped! How about you? Are you ready for October? … This is from the L.A. Times so it may be behind a paywall, but I was able to read … Continue reading Links: Fundraising, Washi Tape, & More →
RECOMMENDED: Angel in a Devil’s Arms by Julie Anne Long is $1.99! Catherine reviewed this one and gave it an A:
Angel in a Devil’s Arms was just enormous fun to read. It’s sweet, it’s sexy, it’s fun, and it’s just a little bit subversive. Highly recommended.

RECOMMENDED: Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia is $2.99! Aarya wrote a Lightning Review of this one and gave it a B+, but mentions it is definitely not a romance:
There’s a touch of melancholy and longing that permeates the entire novel, but it ends with a premonition of hope. That’s all I can want in any fantasy novel.

The Duke of Midnight by Elizabeth Hoyt is $1.99! This is Maiden Lane book 6, and it has a 4.1-star average. This series in particular is a favorite here at the Pink Palace. I know both Elyse and I have really enjoyed these books. Though they can operate as standalones, I believe every three books or so starts a new major story arc. Correct me if I’m wrong!

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik is $3.99! It’s also a Kindle Daily Deal. If you’re unsure about whether to pick up this book, I highly recommend reading Aarya’s review as well as this Goodreads review to make that decision for yourself. The comments on that GR review are also super insightful, as it contains comments from readers of color about various cultural identities present in the book.

Naomi Novik knows how to write a freaking good fantasy novel. I’ve been thinking nonstop about A Deadly Education for the past week and have been frantically messaging speculation/theories to other readers. It’s the type of story that will exist rent-free in my brain for the foreseeable future. No matter how much I try, I can’t scrub it out because exciting details keep invading my mundane day-to-day thoughts. So let’s get right to it! I … Continue reading A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik →
If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), but we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading September’s New Releases, Part Two →
RECOMMENDED: Uprooted by Naomi Novik is $2.99! A lot of people have recommended this book and Novik’s writing, but some readers did mention on Goodreads that the book is a bit slow at times. Do you love Novik’s writing? What did you think of this one?
