  • Nicholas

    Nicholas by Elizabeth Amber

Nicholas by Elizabeth Amber is $1.99! This book is something a bit of a rite of passage. Here’s what Sarah had to say:

That book is a gift. It was a rite of passage for me. It is in the top three most off the wall completely eyebrow raising WTF am I READING RIGHT NOW books I’ve experienced.

I want to caution current readers that there are some potential minefields in its treatment of queerness in some characters, but it’s a ride.

HE HAD SWORN TO TAKE A PROPER WIFE.
HE HADN’T BARGAINED ON MEETING HIS MATCH …

Nicholas looks very much like what he is — the handsome, successful heir to a vineyard in Tuscany. But Nicholas is much more, for he is one of the last in an ancient line of satyr men. And the dying king of ElseWorld wants him not only to marry, but to wed one of the king’s own daughters — a half-human, half-faerie woman unaware of her heritage. Nicholas won’t shirk his duty to produce heirs to guard his race’s legacies, but he never plans to make his bride his only lover. A satyr’s sexual hunger and sensual skills are legendary. One woman will never satisfy him.

Or so Nicholas believes until he meets Jane. As spirited as she is fey, as beautiful as she is innocent, she is nevertheless determined to make her new husband hers alone — and she is eager for him to teach her every deliciously carnal secret he knows…

  • A Duke Changes Everything

A Duke Changes Everything by Christy Carlyle

RECOMMENDED: A Duke Changes Everything by Christy Carlyle is 99c! Redheadedgirl gave this a B:

There’s also a delightful cast of supporting characters, including a cameo by Ada Lovelace. I am pretty sure that I haven’t read anything by Carlyle before, but I really did enjoy this. I think that readers of Megan Frampton and Caroline Linden will like this book and this author. There’s angst, but, like, as a seasoning. The real star of the dish is the well-plotted tension.

In the first novel in Christy Carlyle’s sizzling Duke’s Den series, three men, intent on making a fortune, discover irresistible opportunities . . .

Nicholas Lyon gambled his way into a fortune and ownership of the most opulent, notorious gentlemen’s club in England. But when Nick’s cruel brother dies, he inherits a title he never wanted. The sooner Nick is rid of the estate that has always haunted him, the sooner he can return to the life he’s built in London. But there’s one obstacle—the exquisite Thomasina Thorne.

When the new heir to the Tremayne dukedom suddenly appears in Mina Thorne’s life, she’s flustered. Not only is he breathtakingly handsome, but he’s also determined to take away her home and position as steward of the Enderley estate. If Mina learns what makes the enigmatic duke tick, perhaps she can change his mind—as long as she doesn’t get too close to him.

With each day Nick spends with Mina, his resolve weakens as their colliding wills lead to explosive desire. Could she be the one woman who can help him finally bury the ghosts of his past?

  • Need You Now

Need You Now by Nicole Helm

Need You Now by Nicole Helm is $2.99! This is the first book in the Mile High Romance series and subsequent books are also on sale. It’s a contemporary romance with opposites attract elements. If you like outdoorsy, Helm writes a lot of great ones. Readers seem divided on the hero. Some loved his grumpy nature, while others thought his grumpiness bordered on sad and rude.

    He’s mountain-tough. She’s city-smart. The sparks are about to fly . . .

Only the most resilient of souls could breathe new life into an all-but-forgotten town nestled in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains—but what they get in return might be worth the heartache it takes to make it happen . . .

Gracely, Colorado, was once a booming mining town. No one knows that better than Brandon Evans. His father’s company kept the town thriving for years—until Brandon threatened to expose his illegal practices and drove him away. Everyone blames Brandon and his brother for turning Gracely into a ghost town—but the tenacious residents cling to a long-held legend about the land’s healing powers. And Brandon has a plan to spin that legend into reality . . .

Lilly Preston took a leap of faith and moved to Gracely a year ago to save her nephew from an abusive situation. She would do anything for him, even sacrifice her glamorous job. Reluctantly, the former PR hot shot takes a job at the ruggedly handsome Evans brothers’ Mile High Adventures, a company offering restorative Rocky Mountain vacations.

Brandon thinks PR is pointless, and Lilly knows less than nothing about the outdoors. Which is exactly why they need each other—in ways neither ever imagined . . .

  • One Day in December

One Day in December by Josie Silver

One Day in December by Josie Silver is $1.99 at Amazon! This could be a leftover deal from Sunday and will expire ASAP! This book was a big deal when it came out, but I was suspicious about whether there’s an HEA. Have you read this one?

A love story about what happens after you meet, or rather, don’t meet the one.

Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn’t exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there’s a moment of pure magic…and then her bus drives away.

Certain they’re fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn’t find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they “reunite” at a Christmas party, when her best friend Sarah giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It’s Jack, the man from the bus. It would be.

What follows for Laurie, Sarah and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. One Day in December is a joyous, heartwarming and immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.

  1. It’s a good thing I work alone because “THE DOUBLE PEENS RISE AGAIN!” is probably not a good thing to shout in the presence of coworkers/clients.

Now, of course, you can get any number of appendages in any number of receptacles, but way back in The Olden Tymes (2007), KENSINGTON double-dicking was A Big Deal.

  2. Emily says:

Nicholas remains one of the wildest books I’ve ever read. Not a good book, but certainly a very memorable one, and not just because of the double penis situation.

  3. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I knew as soon as I saw NICHOLAS was a KDD today that it would show up in today’s Books on Sale! Bitches love the double-peen! (Well, at least reading about it!)

  4. SB Sarah says:

@d3: It’s the Seeker that really holds all my nostalgic affection.

  5. Musette says:

y’all are gonna KILL me with the peen! Kill. Me!

    xo

  6. footiepjs says:

I’m very much “should I … ?” about Nicholas but these comments are nudging me off the fence, lol. I’m a big fan of WTFery.

  7. Kit says:

I need a very cold shower after seeing that cover for Nicholas!

  8. Carole says:

I was disappointed in Nicole Helm’s Need You Now as I enjoy the outdoorsy series (like Jill Shalvis’ Wilder Series). I had trouble staying with the story in Need You Now and just did not connect with the characters, too angsty for my taste. Felt like both Hero and Heroine needed to be in therapy, (for months), with the emotional baggage they carried. Barely C- and Toasted from my Ebook Library as I would not re-read.

  9. Todd says:

Chiming in with the bonkers Nicholas (there are two sequels – he has brothers! she has sisters!). I think I still have the books (seriously – who could resist that).

  10. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Kit: according to its Amazon information, NICHOLAS was the “First place winner in Judge A Book By Its Cover, single title 2008.” Even 13 years ago, they knew what they were selling!

  11. KitBee says:

Regarding ONE DAY IN DECEMBER, there is an HEA — but only after 10 years, as the cover copy states! So if you’re not into decade-long pining, it may not be the book for you.

  12. Todd says:

wow … I checked Amazon and there were more of the Lords of the Satyr books than I’d realized – I thought there were just the three for the brothers and sisters, but she kept on going

  13. Emily C says:

One Day in December was just a meh read for me. Yes, there is an HEA but it’s a lot of unnecessary drama to get there and there’s definitely emotional cheating (plus a kiss) if that’s a deal breaker for you.
Also, the first person POV changes chapter by chapter from Laurie to Jack throughout the years (some chapters are very short and vignette like, too). I described it to a book club friend that it’s possibly the most cinematic book I’ve ever read. It would be an adorable Netflix movie.

  14. Susan/DC says:

Recently took One Day in December out of the library and returned it a few days later as a DNF. Nothing wrong with the writing, but I thought Laurie’s obsession with the “boy at the bus” was Too Much. I understand finding someone attractive the moment you see them, but she was so insistent that he was the Only One that I found her annoying and close-minded. It’s one thing to pine after someone you’ve known, but she pined after someone she’d never met and closed herself off to other possibilities, a quality I found unattractive.

  15. Emma says:

Ok, it turns out that Nicholas was available in my library’s ebook collection, so I borrowed it to see what the fuss is about. I am literally 3 pages in, and every paragraph is a shimmering gem of WTF hilarity. I am awed that anyone has the confidence to not only write whole books of this sort of erotica, but then actually pitch it to publishers and have editors read it over several times… oh my god XD

  16. Kris Bock says:

Take a Chance on Me by Jane Porter was free today as a BookBub deal. I’m not sure how long that lasts. The heroine is a hairdresser, and the hero is the grandson determined to protect his grandmother, her favorite client, from her “interference.”

  17. Jill-Marie says:

I am so, so sad that “Nicholas” isn’t available on Audible. Because I would so love to listen to the $hit on my endless commute.

  18. E.L. says:

My gripe with One Day in December is that for most of the book the hero and heroine are with other people, and by the time the story starts to wind down, I felt like I understood why Jack and Sarah got together and broke up and why Laurie and Oscar got together and broke up, but Jack and Laurie? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Silver tries to sell Jack and Laurie as Starcrossed, but I just don’t see it? I don’t have a problem with instalove/Love at First Sight per se, but the author still needs to do the legwork to make a romantic relationship plausible. One can’t lean on the instalove to do ALL the work.

  19. Egged says:

Milk street: Tuesday nights is on sale for $1.99. I really liked the cookbook and the recipes I’ve made from there are very reliable.

  20. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Kris Bock: thank you for the heads-up on Jane Porter’s book. It was still free this morning, so I grabbed it. I’ve read a number of her HPs, but none of her other romances, so I’m looking forward to taking a chance on TAKE A CHANCE ON ME.

@Egged: thank you for the heads-up on MILK STREET TUESDAY NIGHTS. It was still $1.99 this morning, so I snagged it. My kindle is on the Amazon account of one of my daughters (long story) and she, like me, loves to cook—so I’m sure she’ll be downloading MILK STREET to her device too!

  21. Carrie G says:

I don’t generally buy cookbooks on kindle (I don’t like the interface–much prefer print to kindle for books I want to flip around in), but my husband really wanted the Milk Street book. I only hope it has recipes that my very picky, diet restricted family will like. 🙂

  22. JetGirl says:

Nicholas is tame compared to the second book in the series. In that one, the satyr brother comes across a mermaid, and has sex with her on the banks of the Seine. Somehow they’re invisible? He is into the sex at first, but not so much when she starts slapping his butt with her tail, and it hurts because the tail has spines. First chapter, y’all. It only gets more batshit from there, and frankly, also disturbing in a not-fun way.

  23. Jiobal says:

O boy. I remember wanting to read NICHOLAS after reading the review here, unfortunately my book budget refused. It’s still not in sale here (Europe), so I decided to give one of the follow-ups (#3 LYON) a try. I guess I could report back, if anyone ist interested?

  24. Jiobal says:

So, right: for anyone interested: I couldn’t actually read all of LYON, so have a very condensed review: This ist actually the same installment JetGirl mentioned. The sexscene in the Seine is quite as batshit as expected, partly because there ist a voyeuse. She, obviously the heroine, is turned on by this:

Now, this was more or less what I expected from this book. However, it is disturbing to read about nonconsenting prostition of the heroine and others, the heroine mindfucking the heroe and also, SPOILER: the villian ist the heroine’s brother.
I bailed at chapter 4, skipped around a little and was very suprised by a rather tame conclusion and (sex-)epilogue (sexpilog?). However, the heroine’s actions are termed as mischief, which from what I did read struck me as quite offensive. So, content warnings for lack of consent and incestous tendencies. Because of this, I don’t think this hits the F+ spot of bonkers hilarity but closer to a D-.
