Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: Broody Vampire Meets Crime Reporter

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

This HaBO is from Cynthia, who wants to find this paranormal romance. Trigger warning for the description below:

I’m trying to find a book I read in the early 2000s. What I remember most are:

1. The main character is a female journalist, who at one point is cornered in an alley by a would-be rapist but manages to escape. I think she let the attacker fondle her breasts before kicking him in the groin and escaping.

2. The vampire love interest is brooding, and at one point watches the heroine from outside her house. I have a vague memory of him being described as wearing a long leather jacket.

3. I think there’s some kind of crime element? Like she’s a crime reporter or something like that?

4. The journalist lives alone and has a pet cat.

Can’t be a vampire if he isn’t brooding, am I right?

  1. Emma Barry says:

This could be Dark Lover by JR Ward. Beth is a journalist before becoming a vampire; she has a cat named Boo; Wrath wears leather; he’s very broody; he watches Beth trying to figure out if she’s close to turning into a vampire.

  2. Kit says:

I was thinking Dark Lover too! But to be honest, I think there’s a few novels from that time with similar plotlines.

  3. Liz G says:

I third Dark Lover. The first book has more crime elements than the other books in thr series.

  4. Blue says:

From the description of that alley scene, I’d say Dark Lover too (I re-read it recently, and that scene really stood out for me for some reason).

  5. Cynthia (OP) says:

Y’all are amazing! Thank you so much – it definitely sounds like Dark Lover. I was so frustrated in trying to figure out a book from just one scene that was seared into my mind, and my mom purged my teenage smut collection years ago so I didn’t have any leads.

  6. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

I am wondering if it is one of Cynthia Eden’s vampire tales?
