  • Get a Life, Chloe Brown

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

RECOMMENDED: Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert is $1.99! Kiki really loved this one and gave it an A:

Get a Life, Chloe Brown saw my expectations’ proffered hand and kissed it gently, and then proceeded to charm their pants off. In a tent. With s’mores. (Not with s’mores, because s’mores apparently are not a thing in the UK.) This metaphor got away from me, but you get the idea. This book is outstanding.

Talia Hibbert, one of contemporary romance’s brightest new stars, delivers a witty, hilarious romantic comedy about a woman who’s tired of being “boring” and recruits her mysterious, sexy neighbor to help her experience new thingsperfect for fans of Sally Thorne, Jasmine Guillory, and Helen Hoang.

Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan, and a list. After almost—but not quite—dying, she’s come up with seven directives to help her “Get a Life”, and she’s already completed the first: finally moving out of her glamourous family’s mansion. The next items?

    Enjoy a drunken night out.
    Ride a motorcycle.
    Go camping.
Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex.
Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage.
    And…do something bad.
But it’s not easy being bad, even when you’ve written step-by-step guidelines on how to do it correctly. What Chloe needs is a teacher, and she knows just the man for the job.

Redford ‘Red’ Morgan is a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle, and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs. He’s also an artist who paints at night and hides his work in the light of day, which Chloe knows because she spies on him occasionally. Just the teeniest, tiniest bit.

But when she enlists Red in her mission to rebel, she learns things about him that no spy session could teach her. Like why he clearly resents Chloe’s wealthy background. And why he never shows his art to anyone. And what really lies beneath his rough exterior…

Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane

Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane is $1.99! This is a second chance contemporary romance, though the hero doesn’t seem to remember the heroine. Maybe there’s some amnesia here too? Have you read it?

Internationally bestselling author Mhairi McFarlane delivers a funny, romantic, heartfelt novel perfect for fans of Josie Silver or Sally Thorne, and anyone who loves Bridget Jones or Fleabag!

You always remember your first love… don’t you?

If there’s anything worse than being fired from the worst restaurant in town, it’s coming home early to find your boyfriend in bed with someone else. Reeling from the humiliation of a double dumping in one day, Georgina takes the next job that comes her way—bartender in a newly opened pub. There’s only one problem: it’s run by the guy she fell in love with years ago. And—make that two problems—he doesn’t remember her. At all. But she has fabulous friends and her signature hot pink fur coat… what more could a girl really need?

Lucas McCarthy has not only grown into a broodingly handsome man, but he’s also turned into an actual grown-up, with a thriving business and a dog along the way. Crossing paths with him again throws Georgina’s rocky present into sharp relief—and brings a secret from her past bubbling to the surface. Only she knows what happened twelve years ago, and why she’s allowed the memories to chase her ever since. But maybe it’s not too late for the truth… or a second chance with the one that got away?

  • No Offense

    No Offense by Meg Cabot

No Offense by Meg Cabot s $2.99! This is book two in the Little Bridge Island small town romance series. A librarian and a sheriff are confounded by someone leaving a baby in the library’s bathroom. I’ve heard meh things about this series, but your mileage may vary.

New York Times -bestselling author Meg Cabot’s returns with a charming romance between a children’s librarian and the town sheriff in the second book in the Little Bridge Island series.

Welcome to Little Bridge, one of the smallest, most beautiful islands in the Florida Keys, home to sandy white beaches, salt-rimmed margaritas, and stunning sunsets—a place where nothing goes under the radar and love has a way of sneaking up when least expected…

A broken engagement only gave Molly Montgomery additional incentive to follow her dream job from the Colorado Rockies to the Florida Keys. Now, as Little Bridge Island Public Library’s head of children’s services, Molly hopes the messiest thing in her life will be her sticky-note covered desk. But fate—in the form of a newborn left in the restroom—has other ideas. So does the sheriff who comes to investigate the “abandonment”.  When John Hartwell folds all six-feet-three of himself into a tiny chair and insists that whoever left the baby is a criminal, Molly begs to differ and asks what he’s doing about the Island’s real crime wave (if thefts of items from homes that have been left unlocked could be called that). Not the best of starts, but the man’s arrogance is almost as distracting as his blue eyes. Almost…

John would be pretty irritated if one of his deputies had a desk as disorderly as Molly’s. Good thing she doesn’t work for him, considering how attracted he is to her. Molly’s lilting librarian voice makes even the saltiest remarks go down sweeter, which is bad as long as she’s a witness but might be good once the case is solved—provided he hasn’t gotten on her last nerve by then. Recently divorced, John has been having trouble adjusting to single life as well as single parenthood. But something in Molly’s beautiful smile gives John hope that his old life on Little Bridge might suddenly hold new promise—if only they can get over their differences.

Clever, hilarious, and fun, No Offense will tug at readers’ heartstrings and make them fall in love with Little Bridge Island and its unique characters once again.

  • The Lady Brewer of London

The Lady Brewer of London by Karen Brooks

The Lady Brewer of London by Karen Brooks is $1.99! This is historical fiction and we’ve featured a couple of Brook’s previous titles in the past. All of them seem to have women taking up unconventional professions. Have you read any?

An unforgettable historical tale set in fifteenth-century England of a brilliant woman’s defiance, courage, and ingenuity—from the author of The Locksmith’s Daughter and The Chocolate Maker’s Wife.

1405: The daughter of a wealthy merchant, Anneke Sheldrake suddenly finds her family bankrupted when her father’s ship is swept away at sea. Forced to find a way to provide for herself and her siblings, Anneke rejects an offer of marriage from a despised cousin and instead turns to her late mother’s family business: brewing ale.

Armed with her mother’s recipes, she then makes a bold deal with her father’s aristocratic employer, putting her home and family at risk. Thanks to her fierce determination, Anneke’s brew wins a following and begins to turn a profit. But her rise threatens some in her community and those closest to her are left to pay the price.

As Anneke slowly pieces her life together again, she finds an unlikely ally in a London brothel owner. Determined not only to reclaim her livelihood and her family, Anneke vows not to let anyone stand in the way of her forging her own destiny.

  1. KitBee says:

I really enjoyed Don’t You Forget about Me! It is one of those books with a deceptively light rom-com cover; there is definitely a happy ending but also definitely some hard stuff, especially in the heroine’s past. Also, in case the summary is confusing, it’s not an amnesia plot.

  2. Ren Benton/Lena Brassard says:

BLACK SUN by Rebecca Roanhorse is $1.99.

ROSEWATER, ROSEWATER INSURRECTION, and ROSEWATER REDEMPTION by Tade Thompson are 99 cents, $3.99, and $4.99, respectively, so the whole trilogy for ~$10.

  3. lolagranola says:

I am slowly collecting the Lady Sherlock series as they go on sale – the second one, A Conspiracy in Belgravia, is on sale for $1.99 on Amazon.

  4. Christa says:

Mhairi McFarlane is a recent discovery of mine, and I gave this book a perfect score on Goodreads.

  5. Darlynne says:

@Ren Benton: I’m reading ROSEWATER now, really enjoying it. Thanks for the heads up on the others.

  6. Jcp says:

Snowed in For a Second Chance by Heather Scarlett is free

  7. Bre says:

    These all look like winners!!

  8. Jacki says:

I loved Don’t You Forget About Me, but I didn’t feel it was a true romance. The main focus is the heroine’s growth as a person, and the romance is a strong supporting subplot. You won’t find any amnesia in the book.

In case you missed Ren Benton/Lena Brassard’s comment, BLACK SUN. $1.99. GRAB THAT PUPPY.

  9. Sandra says:

Has anyone read the Cabot? I usually like her, but as a Floridian who knows a bit about the Keys, that blurb is raising all sorts of red flags. It really throws me out of a book when I come across something that I know is wrong. Makes me wonder what else is wrong that I missed.

  10. Lisa F says:

The Lady Brewer of London and Chloe Brown are both amazing; need to read the McFarlane

@Sandra and for anyone else wanting info about the Cabot – I gave it an F. The only characters of color are portrayed as caricatures who drop references to “the po-po,” the book opens with a teenager miming sex acts with ginger bread characters in front of children, the heroine is awful and tstl (she literally thinks the sound of an abandoned baby fussing in one of the stalls is coming from a box of abandoned kittens. In the ladies’ room), and a hilariously outdated cult subplot. By the end of the book Cabot conflates child abandonment with the rights of property holders and I was done.

  11. MsCellanie says:

I have almost completely forgotten “Don’t You Forget About Me.”
I vaguely remember liking it, but I could not tell you anything about the plot beyond the blurb.

  12. Stefanie Magura says:

This comment is several days late, but The Lady Brewer of London is also available on Audible as The Brewer’s Tale. I guess this is the title in other countries?
