  • Drag Me Up

Drag Me Up by R.M. Virtues

    Author: R.M. Virtues
Released: March 16, 2021 by Strange Hungers Publishing
    Genre: , ,
    Series: Gods of Hunger #1

    They say he’s a myth…

And Hades prefers it that way. He may do all the work, and Zeus may get all the credit, but at least it allows Hades to preserve the one thing he truly cares to have: his solitude. The mere mention of the Wraith of Khaos Falls is enough to keep order, and he is rarely forced to leave the shadows of Casino Asphodel.

    She belongs in the spotlight…

And Persephone clawed her way out of Demeter’s shadow to reach it. Now she’s lead in Calliope’s Cirque production but not without great cost, and there is not enough money in the world to pay off the debt accrued for the simple mistake of trusting Zeus. Though it’s easier to ignore the bars when she still has room to fly.

Landing a residency at the legendary Casino Asphodel is everything she trained for. Meeting a man she’d been convinced didn’t exist? She could never be prepared for that. Hades isn’t prepared for her either, but it’s soon evident they’re a force when together. He gives her a soft place to land, and she makes him want to reach for the stars. But when Zeus ups the stakes, they must be willing to go all in, even if it means coming down from the sky. Or stepping into the light.

  • The Ex Hex

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

    Author: Erin Sterling
Released: October 5, 2021 by William Morrow Paperbacks
    Genre: ,
    Series: Ex Hex #1

New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins, writing as Erin Sterling, casts a spell with a spine-tingling romance full of wishes, witches, and hexes gone wrong.

Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.

That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.

Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.

I just discovered that both Amelia Wilde and K Webster have written trilogies that are part of the same dark Midnight Dynasty series as M. O’Keefe’s HEARTS trilogy (which is two books in, with the third due this summer). All the books are set in the fictional town of Bishop’s Landing and revolve around two rival crime families—the Morellis and the Constantines. Like O’Keefe, Wilde is two books in with her Beauty & the Beast retelling (SECRET BEAST, HIDDEN BEAUTY, with FALLEN ROSE due in July), while Webster’s Cinderella retelling (STROKE OF MIDNIGHT, PRINCE CHARMING, and THE GLASS SLIPPER) has already been completed. Unfortunately, the books are rather pricy ($4.99 for the ebook), are not on KU, and, based on the two books from O’Keefe, the first two books in each trilogy end in cliffhangers. Still, if you like fairy tale reimaginings—and don’t mind some darkness—these books could be your jam. I’m afraid they’re mine—and my book budget is going to take such a hit!

Intrigued by all three of these!
